Ironically, I have been getting a lot of e mails regarding injuries, pain and staying healthy.

Let me tell you, as an addict of heavy iron for just shy of 20 years, I sometimes wonder if life has a purpose without heavy squats and deadlifts – no joke.

But, I also understand the importance of longevity.

You see, I want to be able to do this when Im 60, 70 and 80 years old…all the way until my very last breath on earth.

It hits me hard when my lower back is so busted up that bending over and trying to hold my kids still to change diapers is painful.

That is a serious problem.

I spoke about this with several friends and colleagues in the iron game and they all agreed…

We all want to be able to play catch without experiencing back pain, swollen knees, achey shoulders and other problems.

Now, the 1 thing I thought I would Never do…and I do mean NEVER….is Yoga…

Until, my homeboy Jonny Hinds spoke to me about his hand pain, back pain, and everywhere pain.

Jonny was a BIG time fan of BJJ and Muay Thai – he trained under Rickson Gracie before the first UFC ever was around and won the Pan Am games in BJJ.

But, Jonny also had his share of heavy training until he met a guy named Roger, who helped him reallign his body and very quickly rid himself of all those nagging pains.

I have been follwoing this Yoga DVD Jonny sent me as a gift for a few days now and each and every day I am feeling waaaay better.

My back and knee have been giving me problems and I follow the program for 12 minutes.

My daughter was trying to do the Yoga sequences with me yesterday, which was hilarious!

I e mailed Jonny yesterday my exciting news of feeling better and told him I would do the sequence every few days or every other day.

He said, “NO, you need to go 30 days in a row, rain or shine, and it’s not even gonna be funny how much better you will feel! All the pains I am experiencing now are a result of my years of beating myself up”

Jon is right, and it’s on, every night, I am doing this 12 minute routine, rain or shine.

Why? Because my health is worth it.

And, I hate being in pain when doing simple things like changing a diaper. I mean come on, is this what it’s supposed to be like at age 32 (I’m 33 on Thursday, yikes!!!) – what happens when I’m 43, 53, 63??

It’s all about being healthy.

And this means being smart.

My earlier years of craziness were definitely not smart.

Still, I cherish those times and would not change them, but, I am making a small, 12 minute adjustment because I want to be healthy and want to do this for a very, very loooong time.

Until the next time,

Kill it & be healthy!

It’s almost impossible to find a hard core facility where they allow “No Rules” Training.

Watch the video closely as I talk to you about power racks, thick bars, grip training, sandbag training and everything else you need…

Check out this vid on how to build your own Underground Strength Gym….

Video to be continued…… :)

Now, if you build it, will they come?

What do you think? Post your comments below :)

Back in the day York Barbell held strength and health picnics where the greats demonstarted their amazing feats of strength, fans came and watched, lifters shared good times, good food and much laughter.

There was amazing comraderie, great training and information was always shared, NOT hoarded like some top secret affair.

I will bring these times back, mark my words….coming soon to The Underground Strength Gym of Edison, NJ.

Watch ALL the videos below and post comments on your thoughts and if you would like to attend.

Please spread the word if you like what you see by sharing it with digg, face book, stumble upon, etc – or simply send the link to your friends.

I REALLY wanna spread the word about this!

This is a taste of things to come.

I plan on bringing back The Golden Era one way or another.

Post comments below and share with others!

Kill it!

PS: Come on, I am psyched for this, will you make the trip if I make this happen?

Today I was about to close up shop at the gym until an old friend strolled in to wish me a happy birthday.

Johnny and I competed against each other in the 1995 Teenage Mr. NJ!

That was a loooong time ago. We both competed in the middleweight division which means we were under 176 lbs!

Johnny showed up today weighing 250 and looking lean and mean. Me? I think I’m hovering near 220.

We spoke about his current regime of heavy squats, heavy deads, heavy military pressing, 120 lb dumbbell hammer curls and his strongman training, which he does in a garage located at a trucking company!

We did get busy with some training though…and yes, no worries, ALL on film :)

I need to catch some ZZZZZZZZ’s before my seminar this entire weekend with Joe DeFranco, ‘The Lost Secrets of Strength Development’.

We decided to attack the grip and work grip strength and hand strength.

It was the most fun I had training in ages!!!

Johnny told me was going to the grip challenge at The Arnold Sports Festival this year so we went at it!

Everything was as heavy as possible and still, I knew in the back of my mind about the weights lifted by the guys in the early 1900′s and they were still light years ahead of us in terms of strength, it was scarey to think this!

When it was time to close up shop, Johnny and I were still talking training in the parking lot, talking about what is happening nowadays in gyms, and what was happening in the gyms when we started, who we learned from and what was happening before we even started, which was REALLY serious shit.

The old timers had it down pat.

They knew how to build strength and rugged muscle better than the majority of gym rats today.

I have more to show and more to talk about, for now, I wanna get to bed and spend some time with my wife :)

Kill it!

PS: One of the best books I have ever written on old school strength training is found right HERE. It’s a freaking goldmine of amazing training information and it has shaped what I do BIG time. Check it out HERE.

Well, a few injuries have fired me up, I tired not to curse, but, let me warn you, the next episode may very well be called “The F Bomb Show” – So, fair warning, and when I get fired up, I do drop a crap ton of F Bombs.

I do believe I dropped more than a few F Bombs today at the Lost Secrets of Strength Seminar :)

This vid I’m quiet, I take it out on the kettlebells.

The rage continues in the upcoming episodes…stay tuned…

Once again, the iron saves me and keeps me sane.

I really don’t think this has the same effect in those cute lil’ gyms like LA Fitness and Work Out World.

And YES, I just called them out….they make me sick…..

Don’t they make you sick?

Kill it!

–Coach Z–

PS: You can’t train old school when you’re in them pretty gyms. In my mind, Old School rules.

PPS: Old School LIVES HERE!

No talking, just training.

Old school….Physical culture style here…

rope climbs…

ring training…..

That shit makes you strong….

The rope climbs are sick for upper body strength and Grip Strength.

The next show will get out of control….

just wait and see….

if you’re easily offended, you might wanna wait a few days till you catch some new footage when the Rage has disappeared.

Kill it!

–Coach Z–

PS: I interviewed ‘The Grip King’ Here. Old school strength at its best.

PPS: Underground meets Powerlifting. I haven’t even promoted this and the seats are starting to fill up. But who says you’ll be sitting down, you just might be moving some heavy iron instead :)

PPPS: Kill It Marketing Seminar closes the doors to registration Wednesday night. If you wanna kill this so called “recession” you better do something about it. I’ll show you the way, you just gotta get there. Click HERE for details.

Just like anyone else, I get fired up sometimes.

My best therapy is to kill it with the weights, doesn’t matter what kind of weights, I’ll take anything I cna get my hands on and kill it.

This is me, it’s easy to not show this stuff, but that’s not real, and you need to see who I am, and like everyone, I have good days and bad days.

The Underground Strength Gym straightens my mind, clears things up and brings me back to a good place.

If you are at work or the kids are around, I highly reccomend muting the speakers.

If you’re easily offended, haaaaaaa, just wait till you see the next Underground Strength Show!

The infamous cheat curl – this has nothing to do with jacking up the guns kids, it’ all about upper body power.

Richard Sorin, The Grip King motivated me to do this.

In addition, when I was in high school, I remember seeing the Football team killing these, they were state champs 2 of the years I was in high school.

In the next vid, prepare yourself, the training gets uglier and the language gets worsed.

Kill it,

–Coach Z–

PS: The Grip King dishes out some un-f**ing-real old school strength secrets when I interviewed him for http://RussianLionFitness.com

PPS: 2 New Seminars are Open:

I am a BIG believer in following your heart and doing what you love.

This is why I created The Underground Strength Coach Certification.

I wanted to offer a system, an A – Z blue print on how I do what I do.

I get countless e mails throughout the week, from lawyers, accountants, and yes, frustrated fitness professionals.

In fact this past weekend, during The Lost Secrets of Strength Development Seminar was a young guy, totally bummin’, training soccer moms who don’t even want to work hard.

He wanted to train athletes, doesn’t want to wake up at 5 AM and finish at 8 or 9 PM and be bored and frustrated out of his mind.

I don’t blame him.

That stuff sucks.

In fact, if you’re not doing what you love, maybe you need to step up and make it happen.

This course is not just for Coaches, it can also be for parents who want to learn how to train their own kids, or athletic coaches who want to bring this program back to their school.

But, if you are in, you better be damn serious and ready to kill it.

More info is here:

Kill it,

–Coach Z–

PS: 4 years ago I was 20,000 + bucks in debt, sometimes crying myself to sleep. Those days are long gone and I do what I love.

I am not lucky.

I made my own luck.

I took massive action.

I killed it.

Are you ready to kill it?

Step it up!

Maybe I’ve watched The Sopranos too many times, or maybe it’s just been 1 of those days.

I take it out on the weights.

WARNING: If you’re easily offended or under 18 years of age don’t watch this.

Just like everyone else I have “those days” sometimes, and the way to make it better is to attack the iron – No Rules, just killin’ it.

What do you do when you’re ‘Pissed the F**K Off”?

Kill it!
