Smokes, Drinks and Can Still Kick Your Ass

March 30th, 2008

Back when I was paying my way through Grad School I was bartending on weekends at a shot and beer joint. Bar tending was also mixed with bouncing.

Saturday nights got wild because bands played most Saturday nights. It was often standing room only and because this was a shot and beer joint, the drinks went fast and people regularly consumed an average of 8 drinks no problem.

I met some serious drinkers, who smoked quite heavily as well, who worked at the nearby factories and industrial plants. They were strong as hell, and they used to help me carry beer filled kegs from the basement to the tap before we had taps running through the floor down to the basement.

These regulars had big hands and thick forearms, all from their manual labor jobs.  They also had no fear of throwing down should anyone bother them in any fashion. Their confidence came through their strength.

The Earth is Shaking

March 30th, 2008

I am so pumped for the soon to be released new product I am tightening up.

It is packed with so much info and tons of killer bonuses…Oh man, I am so psyched can feel the earth shaking!

This new product will really give you an inside look at how I train with my insane schedule.

Speaking of training, I am setting up some backyard tools because there are times on the weekend when I really need to train just to clear my head.

I have a 70 lb Kettlebell, a climbing rope and next on my list will be a long chain, a long tow strap and some PVC piping to rig up a suspended pull up bar from a thick branch in the backyard.

A Priceless Experience plus a Poem for You

March 28th, 2008

zpullup.JPGThe Friday wrecking crew I train at The Underground is truly one of a kind.

They’re ALL getting stronger than a run away freight train, every week, the gains keep coming.

What’s more important is the knowledge they are gaining by training here. This knowledge will stay with them forever.

They’ve been schooled on the right way to train, the most effective methods and tools for the trade, and because of this “education”, they will become better at anything and everything they do.

Why will they become better at Everything?

Our training develops the mind AND body together, into one, powerful, high performance machine. In addition, being strong is something we do not take lightly. They understand that being strong is critical and is to be held in high esteem.

Ironically, I just received an e mail from a friend out West who left his health club because of the horrible atmosphere. Before that, I received a phone call from a Police Officer in West Va. who had just purchased Ancient Training Methods and has been using this style of training for the past 3 weeks.

I’m the Anti Purist

March 27th, 2008

z-lake2small.JPGI’m an anti purist when it comes to strength and performance training.

I do not use only one tool or only one method. I am a purist when it comes to training for results though.

I use what works for me and what works for my clients.

I use the olymic lifts, power lifts, old school bodybuilding, gymnastics movements and much, much more.

Today’s workout was a brutal battle of will and physical toughness. You can’t get through my workouts without being mentally tough. I believe training, at least for myself, must improve my physical and emotional well being.

I need to train hard and tough for my own good - or I am simply not satisfied.

I post all my workouts at The Underground Strength Coach Forum, this way you can take ideas from my methods and apply them for yourself or if you train others, maybe you can use them on clients.

This weekend you’ll see some of my videos as well…where I am talking to the camera, getting insanely hyped up and then training, something you must watch to believe :)
Yes, I’m crazy :) You will soon see this.

My workout today consisted of a powerlifting movement, an olympic lifting movement, an old school bodybuilding movement (one I NEVER see in traditional gyms anymore) and then I hit calisthneics and sandbags in a circuit.

The pace was fast and furious as always, this is the way I gotta train when short on time.

Speaking of short on time, it’s time for me to get some sleep!

Until the next time,

Zach Even - Esh

P.S. - Keep up with my workouts and see how you can learn what it takes to get strong, jacked and ripped right Here.

Welcome to the Bomb Shelter

March 27th, 2008

On April 5th you will have the awesome experience of attending one of my hands on seminars at Notre Dame Prep in South Jersey….in a Bomb Shelter!

Tha’s right, the Notre Dame “weight room” is housed in an old bomb shelter, and the place is HUGE!

There is a turf track, a wrestling mat, a HUGE weight room, endless kettlebells and sandbags and tons of free weights!. On the Football field there are tractor tires and more strongman toys…

Who knows what we’ll use or what we’ll reveal, only you can find out on April 5th.

Space is limited and starting to run low as I’ve just spoken to one of my co-presenters, Pamela MacElree. Her and Jason C. Brown will be tearing up the floor along side of me.

See you soon!

Details are here: http://www.crossfitphilly.com/Events.html

Dedicated to your success,

Zach Even - Esh

Mind Over Matter

March 26th, 2008

nechotiresmall.JPGMind over Matter…

If you don’t mind, It don’t matter.

Put your mind into your training with a NO
fear attitude and you’ll start taking
your training to a whole new level.

Last week many of our athletes were used to
flipping the 400 lb tire.

I then told them how “Curls”, one of our
Beasts was flipping the 600 lb tire with ease.

This sparked some fires within the minds
of our training crew and they began focusing
their attention on the 600 lb tire instead
of the 400 lb tire.

Every single athlete flipped the 600 lb tire
that day.

No matter how hard the battle was, each athlete
wrestled and fought hard to get that tire moving.

Who was that Freak?

March 25th, 2008

jeffking1983leehaney198tb3.jpgToday I was passing by my old middle school
that I used to attend back in the late 80’s.

Wow that was a long time ago.

I remember listening to music on casette for crying
out loud. I also remembered a guy who was
a bit scarey to me and my friends yet I was
totally intrigued by him.

It just hit me today after all these years because
I passed by his house last night.

After school, while walking home, there was a house
around the corner from the middle school.

The driveway had a few barbells laying around, except
these were not your ordinary barbells. They were cement
weights with steel rims.

Behind the Scenes…

March 24th, 2008

gladiatorcrew2.JPGWhat the heck happens at The Underground Strength Gym?!?!?

 Many people are asking….

Well, for one, we train in groups. The energy levels are infinitely higher with these groups. The groups are created after a client is screened through a trial session and then placed in a group that best suits his / her needs.

Not everyone is accepted into our program because we can not allow a half dedicated individual to ruin the powerful chemistry of our groups.

You probably remember me talking about the “Champion’s Attitude”, well, today, one of the Football groups trained while our Gladiator Crew trained and man did they light that place up! The tires were getting flipped down the parking lot all the way to the edge of the street! I’m sure the oncoming traffic was getting scared!
