How to Get Ripped & Burn Fat with “Strategic Cheat Meals”

You guys saw my video last week with Joel talking about food combining and how best to combine foods to rev your metabolism to help you get ripped and burn fat.

Watch this video below on how Joel helps his clients utilize what he calls “Strategic Cheat Meals” to consistently burn fat. Joel details all this BIG time in his Underground Nutrition System HERE (50% OFF until Friday!)

Check the video out…

I do NOT want you to lie to yourself here though. Seeing Joel and I having a cheat meal with Pizza and soda after a hard workout is not a regular daily action.

Joel gives you the exact blue print on how you can correctly and effectively utilize cheat meals to get lean and mean.

I’m sticking to a lean and mean eating plan right now and lowering carbs at night. Keeping things strict until the weekend which is when I often take some day trips, etc with my family and Pizza tends to be the normal favorite during 1 of those day trips.

With my busy schedule though, I might test drive some controlled fasting possibly once a week as well.

If you’re on a mission to get lean and mean then take advantage of Joel’s 50% off special offer which ends soon! Click Here for Info.

Peace!

–Z–

PS: Back when I was a bodybuilder I utilized Joe’s methods of food combining and carb cycling. I NEVER added a cheat meal back then but wish I did as it would have made things much more enjoyable :)

PPS: My friend who is a Cop did was Joel speaks about in this video. Monday – Saturday a very tight nutrition plan and on Sunday he chowed down any which way he wanted and he got seriously Ripped! He still follows this plan!

My Vintage York Barbell Gym Tour

I snagged a recent e bay auction with 600 lbs of vintage weights from York Barbell, Wonder Barbell, Jackson Barbell and Heathway Barbell.

Little did I know this gentleman (who’s identity can not be identified) had a BEAUTFUL Vintage York Barbell Gym in his basement.

It was also cool AND ironic to see all the York Blobs he was selling on e bay and 1 of them was won by none other than the Grip King himself, Richard Sorin.

It was ironic because I had JUST spoken with Richard by phone the previous day and we spoke about how we were die hard fanatics for vintage strength equipment and I told him about how I practically sold my soul to the devil for a 150 lb vintage globe dumbbell!

Check out Part 1 of this Vintage York Barbell Gym….

This little tour brought back some OLD memories of when I began training at my First Gym, the Metuchen YMCA, which was actually the last of it’s kind with regards to vintage gyms outfitted with all York Barbell Equipment: globe dumbbells, rounds head dumbbells, York Barbell isometric rack, dip bars, pull up stations, york barbell and curl bars, ALL York plates and it was a little hole in the wall with some strong dudes strolling around.

I vividly recall riding my bike to the YMCA and then pushing back uphill after a brutal leg workout which was tons and tons of sets and reps of EVERY exercise I could use in that gym. Squats, leg press, RDL, leg extensions, leg curls, sissy squats and back extensions.

I recall pushing my bike home and seeing a guy working on his garden and hosing the garden and I asked to drink from the hose I was so thirsty. Those were some awesome days that I truly miss!

If you have a story of your early days and the iron I wanna hear it, please post in the comments below!

Peace!

Get Lean & Mean While Eating Like a Gladiator

Very interesting and yet simple stuff Joel advises below regarding food combining and getting ripped while still being able to pound away the food.

Without having to say this, well, let me remind you, you best be training like a Gladiator if you plan to eat like one!

Pay attention because Joe speaks about what foods you can and can not combine together and he explains it in a easy to understand way.

Watch this video on Joel’s fat loss and muscle building tips…

I have used carb manipulation when I was a bodybuilder and it was insanely effective at burning fat and shedding unwanted pounds super fast – no joke! I’ll detail this later on.

I’m gonna test drive Joel’s reccomendations above and will keep you posted.

Feel free to comment here or even add your daily food intake as a comment for others to see!

And, stay tuned because when Joel releases his system on getting lean and mean while utilizing cheat meals there will be a short window of time to snag it at 1/2 off. I’ll keep you posted for sure.

Kill it!

Crankin’ the Bodyweight Training with Joel Marion, Body for Life Champion

Ya gotta love bodyweight exercises – ALL of them.

You can do them anywhere, anyplace, anytime.

Push Ups are a bodyweight exercise I LOVE!

Watch the Video below and then I have a CRAZY story for you regarding push ups and other bodyweight exercises….

That’s the end of my quick workout with Joel Marion. It was at the end of a loooong night and Joel has been cranking away with his Underground Nutrition Tips so I KNEW that a fast and furious bodyweight workout would get the juices flowing.

When I started doing Push Ups I was in the 7th Grade. In fact, it was the summer before 8th grade as I vividly recall.

The neighborhood gang was hanging out one night and we all got around to arm wrestling.

I LOST EVERY SINGLE MATCH!

It was f**ing embaressing!

I went home that night and it was around 9:30 PM and I decided that every night before bed and every morning upon rising I would do 1 set of max push ups.

That night I did TWO PUSH UPS!

You read that correctly, there is NO typo there, 2 push ups! I collapsed mid way through rep # 3!

The next night I did 3 push ups, the following night was 4 push ups and I still recall the night I cranked out 7 push ups because the NEXT DAY I finally won my first arm wrestling match!

I was happier than a Pig in Mud! I was getting my ass handed to me for almost an entire week and once I got my first victory in arm wrestling I thought push ups were THE KING!

I’ll keep the pull ups story for another time…

I wanna hear about your experiences with bodyweight training, maybe you have a vivid story as I do, well, step up and let’s hear it!

Kill it!

Training Economics During a Recession?

Training economics is all about utilizing compound lifts to get a lot done in a short amount of time.

This is why you’ll notice the exercises chosen when Body for Life Champion, Joel Marion rolled up to The Underground Strength Gym.

- The dumbbell snatch

- The Dumbbell Clean & Press

- Barbell Cheat Curl & Press

More footage to come, but, till then, check this video out….

I choose the cheat curl so I can work my back, shoulders, traps, biceps, forearms and abdominals.

I choose to rip weights off the floor over seated and lying exercises.

Sometimes pretty just doesn’t get the job done when it comes to training.

Give it a shot and see what happens yourself!

Kill it!

Body for Life Champion, Joel Marion trains at The Underground Strength Gym

Body for Life Champion, Joel Marion, stopped by The Underground Strength Gym last week to get in a quick workout after he slept 3 hours the night before and worked 12 + hours that day, then took the 1 hour drive north to hit up the Underground!

Nice dedication!

Joel unleashed some killer nutrition info that you guys will dig, so stay tuned for that mid week.

Check the video….

Body for Life was created back in the early 90’s when I was a competitive bodybuilder by Bill Phillips. Man, I used to watch the VHS tape over and over again and get insanely fired up to hit the gym. Bill was “selling” the VHS but he actually donated 100% of the proceeds to The Make a Wish Foundation.

I remember asking my Dad to write a check out so I could get the VHS tape of all the Body for Life winners and man did that tape pump me up.

So, to say it was an honor to have a Body for Life Champion wanting to visit The Underground Strength Gym to train here and share his nutrition tips is an understatement!

Joel and I were super busy, and he was exhausted from working on his upcoming Nutrition Course, so we cranked a short and aggressive workout.

I used an old school bodybuilding technique which I read in Arnold’s Encyclopedia decades ago (yes, I did say decades ago!!).

The technique is called running the rack, but, I broke it up a bit to show Joel the ropes and allow us to move some heavier weights. Normally I would start light and just keep on running up he rack to my heaviest weight and then run all the way down the rack. This works great if you’re a busy person or on a time crunch!

Let me know what you thoughts of this workout Joel and I did (more to come) AND, I wanna hear if you were like me, one of the dudes who snagged The Body for Life VHS back in the early 90’s. How did that tape make you feel? How did it motivate you?

Looking forward to hearing your comments!

Kill it!

Building Muscle & Grip Strength with Strongman Training

I have mentioned this so often before, and, in our last post, many of you commented on your favorite exercises being “Ground Based”.

I have spoken repeatedly of the tremendous benefits that come from ripping weights off the ground, especially heavy, awkward Sandbags.

Wanna build muscle?

Want Serious grip strength?

Want power and speed?

Then you MUST rip “weights” of all sizes, shapes and types off the floor.

Notice all the carries we perform in this video…

The workout was coming to an end and we planned on carrying all types of “weights” outside in the parking lot, but, when weather doesn’t cooperate, and in NJ it rarely does, you make due with what you got.

For us it meant carrying dumbbells, sandbags, anvils, weighted vests, kettlebells and even training partners!

Every set began with a power clean of some sort from the ground up, helping the athletes develop power, grip strength during the lift and the carry, conditioning during the carry and overall strength and mental toughness.

I would love to hear how you make due with what you’ve got and how you turn a simple movement into an all around muscle building, strength building movement.

Post your advice, answers and comments below. Last post was just shy of 30 comments, let’s break 30 comments this time!

Kill it!

A Simple Tip for Developing Serious Strength

If you construct a solid strength and muscle building program then you are Golden. Well, not entirely. We have recovery, mobility, flexibility and plenty other lil’ things to take care of.

Regardless, if you;re like me, you’re addicted to being STRONG.

Watch this Video First, then read the article to fully understand what I mean bruddahs and sistas:

You notice all the different carries we did here at THE END of our workout. Inside our athletes were deadlifting and tearing into Heavy Kettlebell training.

Once or twice a week, finish your workout with a form of carrying any heavy object(s) you can get your hands on:

- Sandbags

- Kettlebells

- Dumbbells

- Stones

- Strongman Implements

- Buckets of Gravel /Sand

It doesn’t really matter what the heck you carry, as long as it’s heavy and awkward, you will develop tremendous full body strength unlike ever before.

Less is more here.

Crank a few hard sets and be done, no need to drag on a workout withour reason.

I also have some more kick arse videos coming this week.

You will love them!

Wednesday night, oughtta be quite the doozie!

Joel Marion, the dude who won Body for Life e mailed me and wants to check out The Underground.

I told him he can come only if he trains, and he was crazy enough to agree :) ha ha

I’m gonna film as much training as we can and see if I can give the youngster an ace whoopin’ :)

I’ll be grilling him on how he got ripped to win the Biggest Transformation contest in the WORLD, Body for Life! If you go back as far as I do, I remmeber buying the Body for Life VHS tape for $ 15 (I actually asked my Dad to buy it for me :) and the $ 15 went to a foundation that Bill Phillips favored greatly, I’m sure you know of it, The Make a Wish Foundation.

I’ll grill Joel on his nutrition wisdom while I take him for some good ol’ “Post Workout Nutrition” with some Jerzee Pizza next door none the less :)

I have received a boat load of questions on nutrition so if you guys have questions you want me to ask Joel on nutrition and getting lean and mean, post them in the comments section of the Blog and I will print them out and grill him with YOUR questions and make the video for YOU!

Kill it!

Episode # 130: Training with Sandbags, Powerlifting and Bodyweight

Everything is just a tool. The barbell will always be the King of the weight room, but man do I LOVE heavy dumbbell work.

Heavy sandbag training is awesome as well.

Explosive bodyweight drills can’t be denied either.

Check out one of our athletes, CJ Hart, 16 years young, a Football Player and Wrestler.

Box Squat 385 x 2 (barefoot)

130 lb Sandbag Clean & Press x 6 easy reps

Pull Ups on Steel Beam for the added grip strength challenge

I have mentioned many times before about those early garage gym workouts where all I owned was a gun rack, 300 lb olympic set and a set of 50 and 100 lb dumbbells.

I packed on muscle and strength like never before.

You will too. Soon I’ll show you how :)

Tell me about your workouts using different tools.

What’s your favorite training tool and why?

Kill it!
