<p>The entire crew was waiting out back and my eye was caught by a stone and a log.</p>
<p>To ensure I was not to be arrested I went for the log and announced a log throwing contest.</p>
<p>I screwed the rules up b/c I allowed the distance to include the rolling of the log. I figured on cement it would be tough to get a clear and accurate pinpoint of exactly where the log landed.</p>
<p>In the end, a Jersey native won the contest and snagged himself an Underground Strength Coach Camo Tee and winter beanie! NICE <img src='http://zacheven-esh.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p> If I was to train these teams on a regular basis, I&#8217;d bring my tire sleds, store some tractor tires on site and have  afew sandbags ready to go.</p>
<p> The strength built with these implements is freakish, it comes that fast.</p>
<p> Maybe even <strong><a href="http://www.monkeybargym.com/idevaffiliate/pages/143.php?page=18" target="_blank"><span style="color: #ff0000;">throw in a few kettlebells,</span></a></strong> or, go with the good ol&#8217; basic dumbbell.</p>
<p> If you&#8217;re a parent or coach, this can be done.</p>
<p> <strong><a href="http://combatgrappler.com/ancient.html " target="_blank"><span style="color: #ff0000;">When I first created a DVD called &#8216;Ancient Training Methods&#8217;</span></a></strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">,</span> a Coach in Ct. set up tires and tire sleds plus sandbags and logs and man did he transform his Football team.</p>
<p> He said they never wanted to hit the weight room again and his numbers practically doubled in no time because of the fun they had and the results they got.</p>
<p> To this day I get e mails from one of the football players from back then and the kid is a beast, currently in the Marines.</p>
<p> I have said it so often, to get the unfair advantage, the edge, the brute strength that allows you to dominate, you gotta be different than everyone else and do something different.</p>

<p>Back in the day it was all about balancing on a ball,<br />

<p>Nowadays it&#8217;s all about kettlebells.</p>
<p>When I think about &#8220;functional strength&#8221; it means<br />
one thing to me and that is my ability to display<br />
strength regardless of the situation I am in.</p>
<p>I want to be able to lift big&#8230;that means<br />
being able to squat, deadlift and olympic<br />
lift heavy weights. I want to be able to<br />
flip 600 lb tires with ease, sprint up a hill<br />
faster than all heck, and be able to kick<br />
ass and take names if a bar fight breaks out.</p>
<p><span id="more-89"></span>Back when I was bodybuilding, I was strong<br />
for what I was focusing on, so for me, at that<br />
time, that was functional.</p>
<p>But the day my buddy Griffin and I went to the<br />
tire yard to test ourselves we got our asses handed<br />
to us by the tire yard freak (you can see a<br />
picture of him at <a href="http://gripexperts.com/">http://GripExperts.com</a>).</p>
<p>I wrestled with a tractor tire for what<br />
seemed to be a good minute.</p>
<p>Then Griffin tried with equal pain<br />
as Tony smoked his cigarette and watched<br />
us make fools of ourselves.</p>
<p>Tony and his coworker stomped out<br />
their cigarettes and said out loud,<br />
&#8220;Easy!&#8221;&#8230;as they proceeded to flip<br />
the tires several times without even<br />
using a knee lift.</p>
<p>In fact, you&#8217;ll see a quick clip<br />

<p>It&#8217;s amazing how many different methods are<br />
out there nowadays, but one thing is for sure,<br />
I know what works and what doesn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>I am test driving these methods out on a<br />
daily basis. Sometimes I am the experiment,<br />
other times, my clients are the experiment.</p>
<p>Today, we had a mock strongman contest<br />
and our least experienced, least genetically<br />
gifted guy and the guy who actually trains<br />
the least is the guy who won!</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t underestimate the power of recovery<br />
and the power of using only what works.</p>
<p>On Fridays this tall lad of 6&#8242;4&#8243; trains with us<br />
using all the basics with a variety of tools:<br />
barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, strongman<br />
training and plenty of calisthenics.</p>
<p>There is NO time wasted on movements<br />
that do not add strength or muscle.</p>
<p>So, here&#8217;s a kid training once a week<br />
with some calisthenics scattered into<br />
his week when not here, who would have smashed<br />
me during workout had I met him several years ago<br />
when I was bodybuilding.</p>
<p>Lucky for Kurt, he has come to us to experience<br />
training for &#8220;functional strength&#8221; without<br />
wasting his time elsewhere.</p>
<p>And when his friends ask him how much he benches,<br />
he tells them, &#8220;I may not be able to bench as much<br />
as you but if you try to workout with me I&#8217;ll<br />
outwork you and kick your ass up and down the<br />
street before the workout is even half way through.&#8221;</p>
<p>He&#8217;s right&#8230;.what we do works and that&#8217;s the<br />
bottom line, it&#8217;s all about results.</p>

<p>They&#8217;re ALL getting stronger than a run away freight train, every week, the gains keep coming.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s more important is the knowledge they are gaining by training here. This knowledge will stay with them forever.</p>
<p>They&#8217;ve been schooled on the right way to train, the most effective methods and tools for the trade, and because of this &#8220;education&#8221;, they will become better at anything and everything they do.</p>
<p>Why will they become better at Everything?</p>
<p>Our training develops the mind AND body together, into one, powerful, high performance machine. In addition, being strong is something we do not take lightly. They understand that being strong is critical and is to be held in high esteem.</p>
<p>Ironically, I just received an e mail from a friend out West who left his health club because of the horrible atmosphere. Before that, I received a phone call from a Police Officer in West Va. who had just purchased <a target="_blank" href="http://combatgrappler.com/ancient.html"><strong>Ancient Training Methods</strong> </a>and has been using this style of training for the past 3 weeks.</p>
<p><span id="more-71"></span>He says he has been feeling stronger, tougher and in better shape than ever before&#8230;.and that&#8217;s only after 3 weeks!</p>
<p>Once he puts to use the info unleashed in <a target="_blank" href="http://combatgrappler.com/ancient.html"><strong>Ancient Training</strong> </a>he&#8217;s REALLY gonna skyrocket his gains!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s great to hear and see people putting this information to use.</p>
<p>It reminds me of a little poem that was framed in front of the squat rack at my old stomping grounds, Diamond Gym.</p>
