Episode # 65: Blasting the Iron with Passion!

November 20th, 2008
· Filed Under: Articles · Strength Building · Success · Underground Strength Show · Videos · Zach's Workouts · muscle building

The gym is the place where I lose myself and find myself.

It’s MY place.

You can’t steal my thunder here, it’s f**ing imposisble!

I want and go after it.

I KILL it when I train, period!

No matter what else is going on in this world and in my life, in the gym, everything goes right.

Rusty iron feels best in my hands.

Sandbags and stones show love as well.

Time to kill….and this is only the beginning.

I got some FIRE inside of me and it’s time to unleash.

NOT for kids….

Tell me what the rusty iron does for you.

How has Underground changed your life?

Kill it!

–Coach Z–

PS: A blend of rusty iron and old school strength awaits you at http://RussianLionFitness.com - It;s time for you to step up!

Episode # 63: Rusty Iron

November 19th, 2008
· Filed Under: Strength Building · Success · Underground Strength Show · Videos · Zach's Workouts · marketing · muscle building

Training doesn’t have to be perfect for it to work.

My methods are NOT perfect, they have flaws and holes, but guess what, so does every program.

Sometimes you just gotta kill it without the perfection!

200 reps of plyos, finished with 80 lb walking lunges? This is FAR from perfect but it freaking works: strength, speed, muscle gains and work capacity.

Soembody call the program design police because I DON’T GIVE A F**k!

Kill it!

–Coach Z–

PS: Kill it like the old school guys did it, which is what I unleash at http://RussianLionFitness.com

Kill it with me, Playground Assault style!

November 4th, 2008

I’m gonna hit the old playground this week before the REAL cold weather sets in.

I’ll toss a kettlebell in the back of my truck, a sandbag, some thick rope and the rest will be left up to Mother Nature :)

I’m psyched to use the monkey bars, the parallel bars, free room to throw my kettlebell and tear into it any which way I desire.

I love throwing kettlebells on the grass field for power development and work capacity.

I’ll definitely get sprints in there - sprints are undervalued when it comes to developing powerful, muscular legs and as a fat burning method.

Jumps on the picnic tables, 1 arm military presses with the picnic table rock as well.

Speaking of rocks…I hope I can find a few heavy stones laying around because I’d love to tear into them!

Join me on this playground assault, we can all use some fresh air :)

Kill it!

–Coach Z–

PS: Wanna see the 2 DVD Playground Assault? It’s found at http://RussianLionFitness.com. Hack was a HUGE proponent of training outdoors and getting as much fresh air as possible. He would have loved the ‘Playground Assault’ and so will you!

2 kids and 1 book that changed my way of thinking

November 3rd, 2008
· Filed Under: Articles · Success

I got my hands on an old book a few years ago and it really pushed home the need for simplicity.

In addition, the book also encouraged the need for basics - when I saw the build on the author I was floored.

He was seriously built like a brick s**t house!

His workouts were often in the 30 minute range or so.

They revolved around 1 - 3 exercises per workout.

Then, I had 2 kids recently hit The Underground Strength Gym here in Edison, NJ.

Both burnt out from years of overtraining and countless injuries thanks to those workouts, I decided to take a different turn.

I had them come in 2 x week and train only 20 - 30 minutes.

We choose 3 exercises most of the time, not including any abdominal or grip work, and then they go to town on these lifts, submax effort all the way, always leaving a rep or two or three in the tank.

They love it, they’re having more fun than ever before and they are getting stronger and feeling healthier than ever before.

Can’t argue with those results.

When they begin to compete in the upcoming wrestling season I will definitely get some footage up at The Underground Strength Show.

But man, these guys are just killing it and starting to pack on muscle and develop brute strength faster than ever before.

It’s not that shorter is better, it’s the fact that smarter is better.

Stay tuned for videos…wrestling season is around the corner :)

And by the way, these workouts have been used by myself as well, it’s not just for wrestlers, or athletes in general, it’s for anyone who wants to build a rugged physique and develop brute strength.

Kill it!

Cellar Dwellers

July 13th, 2008

grifbench.JPG

Are you a cellar dweller?

Do you train your garage, basement or in your beat up backyard?

Those are the places where some of the strongest men who ever lived have trained in.

Using a barbell, dumbbells and some bodyweight training. These old tools have been around since day 1, but damn, you can never be strong enough if you own these tools.

You can keep getting stronger, faster and bigger.

I miss those days of training in my garage. My next house will need a barn out back, so I can convert it into my own Underground Dungeon.

The barbells and dumbbells can be dropped. Chalk will be plenty. Climbing ropes will be hanging everywhere. Medicine balls will be flying as I through them and toss them as high as I can for power development.

Come on, you don’t need no stinkin’ gym membership, especially to those fancy, posh “gyms” called LA Fitness or Retro Fitness.

Want REAL Retro Fitness?

Then experience the 100 year old program that unleashes your inner animal right HERE!

Kill It!

–Coach Z–

P.S. - I added a celler dweller type DVD to The Russian Lion Deluxe Power Course. You’ll see some behind the scenes Underground Garage Training (it’s a special Bonus I never announced yet :)

he trained with me in my Dad’s garage

May 5th, 2008

sidechest.jpgWow, those were some wild days.

Back when I FIRST began taking on clients as a profession, a five bucks per hour profession none the less :)
I was training a few athletes from my Dad’s garage, his backyard and the local parks.

At the time, Kurt, was a high school basketball player.

His Dad owned a truck and I offered to train him all summer for free if he can help me pick up some gym equipment.

I purchased a long dumbbell rack, a chin - dip combo bar, a boat load of rusty ivanko plates and a barbell.

Good times.

I had some other tools in the garage, stuff that was confusing to me as I never used it, but my close friend used these tools like crazy and he was training everyone with them

I’m talking about stability balls and balance discs.

can it get any better?

April 17th, 2008

playgroundassaultdvd.jpgOh man, the weather is amazing today.

75 and sunny, no humidity, just the way I like it.

That means outdoor training for me, and if you’re
smart, you’ll do the same.

I used to take a kettlebell, sled and a sandbag with me
to the park, but lately, I just show up and do nothing
but calistehnics and various sprints and jumping movements.

Nothing is written in stone when I do these workouts, and
following a rigid routine is not for me because of
my work schedule.

I have found some amazing playgrounds behind schools that are never used. They playgrounds remind of the turner halls from the early 1900’s, where people climbed, jumped, pulled, pushed, threw med balls, used kettlebells and performed gymnastics.
