A day with my earliest influence

July 13th, 2008
· Filed Under: Announcements · Articles · Calendar · Success

Many years ago i found my way to Steve Maxwell’s web site. It was quite interesting, to see this renegade physical culturist creating his own style of training, following no rules, using what he had learned through decades of the martial arts and mastering his own body for training.

There were photos of him training with a pair of homemade kettlebells, they were silver and looked deadly! He was performing a bridge while pressing these two kettlebells.

I finally met Steve two years ago at the Ryan Lee Boot Camp and we chatted about grip training and grip strength, rope climbing and using kettlebells.

I was blown away to say the least.

Just yesterday, I shared the stage with Steve, as we co presented the Gladiator Seminar, which went from 10 AM - 6 PM with just a few short breaks for snacking and fluids. Want an amazing day it was and what an honor to learn from such an expert.

I was excited that I was able to teach Steve some new stuff! Who woulda known!

Lucky for you, we recorded every second, and that means this will be available for you to watch at home soon enough. I believe it came out to 7 or 8 tapes! That’s a boat load of info, and all the info was Steve and I cutting through the hype, showing ONLY what works, only what we use, no filler and no fluff.

After training with Steve, I am psyched even more so to hit the bodyweight training. I’ll be tearing up my backyard tonight with my power wheel and kettlebells.

Stay tuned for more stories from the Underground!

Kill it!

-Coach Z-

PS - I’ll be announcing the next USC cert soon. It’s coming, so be ready! Serious inquiries only, no cry babies, no whiners….I’m getting sick of those people :)

I heard stories about this guy…

stevemstone.jpg

I had heard about him using sandbags during his BJJ classes, homemade Russian Kettlebells, revolving pull up bars, a climbing rope in his house for his son and other wildly innovative methods that were a far cry from the popular stability ball and balance board afficionados.

His methods were in line with my way of thinking and he was certainly someone who was walking the walk being the first American Gracie BJJ Black Belt.

Can they handle it?

April 13th, 2008

I’m not sure if the newsstands can handle all the weight with 2 of my power packed, heavy hitting articles on them! ha ha

ok, ok, that was likely to be the worsed joke ever, but, if you’re at Barnes and Noble definitely check out my latest 2 articles in the following magazines:

TapOuT and Fighters Only

I can’t tell you exactly what’s in the two of them, but, without a doubt is more of my hard hitting information.

Check em’ out and let me know what you think.

Time to eat some lunch!

In Strength,

Zach Even - Esh

P.S. - I’m working really hard on something new, I feel it’s my best project to date. Stay tuned for something BIG coming very soon.

P.P.S. - It was around this very date, 4 years ago, when I released my first ever product, ‘Ancient Training for Modern Day Gladiators’. Ironically, it is still one of my bests sellers. It’s been updated since it’s initial release with a power packed teleseminar bonus I did not long ago, and if you go really BIG and get The Gladiator edition, you’ll love the added manual and Coach Ethan Reeve interview.

Inside the Gladiator training program

April 8th, 2008

gladiatortrophy-small.JPGEvery Friday our ‘Gladiator Crew’ shows up to battle it out with some intense training.

A powerful mixture of powerlifting, strongman, old school bodybuilding and calisthenics are incorporated. They never know what might come next. Will it be a powerlifting focused workout, possibly tons of old school bodybuilding, or maybe an entire day of body mastery where we use nothnig but their own bodyweight?

Who was that Freak?

jeffking1983leehaney198tb3.jpgToday I was passing by my old middle school
that I used to attend back in the late 80’s.

Wow that was a long time ago.

I remember listening to music on casette for crying
out loud. I also remembered a guy who was
a bit scarey to me and my friends yet I was
totally intrigued by him.

It just hit me today after all these years because
I passed by his house last night.

After school, while walking home, there was a house
around the corner from the middle school.

The driveway had a few barbells laying around, except
these were not your ordinary barbells. They were cement
weights with steel rims.

I’m in the UK and I LOVE it!

March 13th, 2008
· Filed Under: Announcements · Articles

fom.jpgYou can see my latest article in newsstands now, in Fighters Only Magazine, a UK based magazine but it hits world wide newsstands.

I LOVE the UK combat athletes. My first ever interview on the web was from a UK based web site, and I noticed one thing about these UK fighters: They LOVE hard training.

I have never received whining, cry baby e mails from UK fighters either. They are HUGE supporters of my Underground Training and Products as well.

I won’t tell you what’s inside this magazine, but you will certainly dig it.

So rush on out to your local Barnes and Noble and get yourself a copy!

Workouts of The Dragon

March 3rd, 2008

bruceleeflex.jpgBruce “The Dragon” Lee was quite the physical specimen, as we all know this all too well.

I saw some recent pics of him using his own gripper machine, which we now see on the market in various places.

Bruce was not only a work out fanatic, but he was truly a forearm / grip training fanatic.

Check out one of Bruce’s workouts below…

The Competition and the Battle

February 19th, 2008

miked-sledpull2.JPGAt The Underground Strength Gymnasium we hold regular competitions amongst the members. These are unannounced battles and they really hype up the crew at hand to step it up. Noone likes to lose and sometimes a loss exposes their weak area(s) and makes them work smarter AND harder towards filling those gaps.

Our last contest was a pull up contest. The winners received a Captains of Crush Hand Gripper.

Pull ups are like squats for the upper body. They’re amazing at developing strength and adding muscle to your back, shoulders, biceps, forearms and they strengthen the hands as well. We never use straps to aid the grip.

I can not announce my next contest because my clients visit my Blog regularly. I can assure you it will be VERY challenging and much more brutal than the simple pull up contest. The winner will have to earn his prize this time through a brutal gut busting effort.

I’ll keep you posted on this next competition, it should be in a few weeks :)
The prize for our first contest was the Captains of Crush Gripper, and rightfully so. I know that when the hands become stronger the rest of the body becomes stronger.

Stronger hands will improve their pull up strength, increase deadlift strength and yes, it will even improve pressing strength in movements such as the military press and bench press. When the hands can wrap tightly around a barbell, or any object, and crush it tightly, the entire body tenses and strength now becomes a full body effort, not just an isolated effort from one or a few muscle groups.

I suggest you start working your hands twice a week. Work them hard and heavy and watch the rest of your strength increase. Two of my favorite exercises are Hex Dumbbell Holds and hand over hand sled pulls with a thick rope.

If you want to learn more exercises, methods and workouts to use for explosing your grip and hand strength then check out what 11 hard core strength coaches put together in this Beast of an e book: http://GripExperts.com

Stay strong!

Old School vs New School!

February 13th, 2008

It’s the famous saying, “What’s old is new again.”

I never invented the training with odd objects, or anything else I have done or am using.

There have certainly been new ways in program design and physiological feedback thanks to state of the art equipment, but the boat most people have missed is consistency, effort and regularity of the basics and progressive overload.

The design of the program is key, because when it organized optimally (notice I never said perfectly as there is no such “perfect” program) your results come incredibly fast!

When I see what is popular today, I have often read about in books that are sometimes 100 years old! Or, I have spoken to Strength Coaches who trained themselves in this fashion since the 60’s!

How can this “old” stuff be so powerful and is it more powerful than today’s “new stuff”?

This is why “getting under the bar” is so critical. It is the people who have years and years of experience of getting under the bar who have the best knowledge of training, Not the pencil neck keyboard gurus floating around the internet these days.

Stone lifting has been around for centuries and is a cultural norm in some areas! How amazing is that! I sure wish things were like that around here. I’d be a happy guy if the local sports bars had Dinnie stones and atlas stones out front!

In Arnold Schwarzenneger’s OLD Book, ‘Education of a Bodybuilder’ you see Arnold competing in Ice Lifting or Stone lifting in the local pubs! Great stuff right there!

Some cultures respect and revere strength while others are always struggling to find a way to become fit and strong….such as many Americans.

This is why I LOVE old strength books, stuff from the early 1900’s through the late 50’s seems to really dish out the most powerful stuff. They are filled to the brim with powerful strength secrets, and through these nuggets of gold I have learned so much, and thus it has been transferred to my membership site, http://UndergroundStrengthCoach.com, where we exchange and learn new information with a blend of new methods in program design and old school methods of strength training. We just can’t go wrong!

It is HERE where you will find my best strength secrets that countless others have neglected to find, research, use and experiment with. Yes, I am constantly getting under the bar, or anything else I can get my hands on!

This is what allows you to avoid all the mistakes others make and you can get straight to the heart of the matter, discovering the power of stone training, outdoor training, powerlifting, old school bodybuilding, developing powerful hands and a mighty grip, strongman training methods, sandbags and much, much more!

This Friday I’ll be posting some killer info on how we develop amazing strength allowing our athletes to dominate the competition.

Use this 7 Day Trial and you won’t be disappointed. If you don’t like it, cancel before your 7 days is up!
