Training for MMA and Combat

June 20th, 2008
· Filed Under: Uncategorized · Videos

My gym, The Underground Strength Gymnasium, is connected to an auto garage. On the side of that garage, the owner throws old tires away. Some with the wheel still intact, others just the tire. I snagged a few and helped guys make these tires into sleds. They were happy :)

Can you build muscle and build strength through the use of things you might find in a junk yard?

You better believe it.

Check out the video below and fast forward to the 1 minute mark. I am not too fond of the partial reps and pump training this fighter does, although he can kick my ass :)

Many athletes are successful in spite of their training methods because of their high skill levels.

There are many incomplete and / or incorrect training programs, and for any athlete, the partial reps and light pump training is what I wouldn’t want to see, unless it was a deload session.

The explosive work with the tire in this video is some really good stuff.

You can do this with a light kettlebell as well.

Check out the video and pay attention to how you can get in some tire training or any other form of Underground Strength Training to deliver ass kickin’ results.

In Strength,

–Zach–

P.S. - When my athletes stopped following the traditional workouts most people use in gyms today, their results exploded. I want you to learn these methods, either through the up and coming Gladiator Seminar, or through Underground Strength Coach.

Underground Strength Training in Brazil

June 18th, 2008

Watching this video was great. I came across it by chance, as my TV watching days are slim to none, I have lost touch with who’s who in MMA. The last time I rented a UFC pay per view fight I fell asleep on the couch before it ever started!

This video reminds me of some of the training I would take my wrestlers through down at the field. Cleaning & Throwing kettlebells for 5 minute rounds, brawling drills and sumo drills on the grass immediately after sprinting up hill, carrying a partner on your back.

Watch this video and you’ll see what brings me back to my first days. It’s super primitive, yet it brutally effective.

This style of training is not just for fighters, it’s for anyone. Training does not discriminate - it never did, it never will :)

I am inviting you to join myself and Steve Maxwell at our Gladiator Strength Seminar, July 12th. Space is almost full, and those who attend this event will get a deep, up close and personal look into the extremely effective methods Steve and I use for training athletes and people from all walks of life.

Get your info HERE!

One of my favorite videos

To this day, the highlight video below has been one of my favorites.

The training outdoors, calisthenics, sledge hammer work, the amazing playgrounds (I have never seen such a playground with tall parallel bars and so many monkey bars in the states!!) and the intensity in Fedor’s eyes.

His training does not take place in optimal conditions or with optimal equipment.

An OLD wrestling workout

Last night I went to the neighboring downtown with my family as everyone got some ice cream. In case you’re wondering, I skipped the ice cream part :)

Don’t worry, I’m still human, I eat ice cream, but I’m on a mission, and that will require doing what others don’t do.

On the way home, about half way there, my wife dropped me off on the side of the road so I could run the rest of the way. This wasn’t your typical jog all the way and do nothing else.

No my friend, this was a brutal workout mixed with many different methods and movements.

First of all, I had to run the first few minutes up a steady incline. I ran instead of jogged, but didn’t sprint all out. I then walked the distance of 2 or 3 houses, dropped and cranked out 10 push ups. The running began again, this time, through the woods behind my old elementary school, jumping over bushes, downed trees, on the side of a hill and finally sprinting through the parking lot.

I jumped up and grabbed the basketball rim and cranked out 5 perfect pull ups.
