75 posts on the 15 minute body blastin’ workouts

reeves.jpg

Holy cow, there has been an insane response to creating the most intense 15 minute workouts.

I am really up S**t’s creek trying to pick the best one, it is near imposisble, I have really painted myself in a corner this time, ha ha!

I am really digging Dave Morgan’s beastly workout, and at the young age of 60, this man is a frightening beast. Dave is post number 9.

Then we have number 46, Steve McElroy, tearing it up in his basement and making anyone struggle through this simple yet brutal circuit!

Workout 47, by Parker, reminds me of something I read in a 1940’s Strength & Health Magazine, LOVE IT!

And workout 58, Kirsten Gobel, what a crazy girl she is, pushing a prowler with a sled attached to her waist and 100′ rope pulls.

I am gonna have to pick the numero uno from the list above, but, does that mean the other 71 workouts go without a prize?

I think not :)

I have an idea for all of you, but, my tech skills are not all that geeky supreme, so, I will figure it out and make it happen for you guys.

Thank you BIG time for all the wonderful responses.

If you’re short on ideas, get back to the blog and test drive one of those beastly workouts.

Gotta run for now, I have a BIG power lunch with someone in 2 hours.

Kill it,

–Coach Z–

P.S. - Don’t forget, November 1st and 2nd the 3rd Underground Strength Coach Certification is on. If you want in, read the web site first at http://combatgrappler.com/coach.html - then, e mail me for an interview.

Build Strength = Build (A Lot) More Muscle

July 4th, 2008

weighted-pushup.JPG

Wanna get bigger? Wanna look rugged, lean and mean?

Then you better plan on getting stronger, period.

Heavy weights, low to moderate reps, some high rep sets here and there, lots of quality food, quality rest, basics, basics, basics.

So many people wonder why they aren’t getting the results they want, and I always laugh because even though I tell them how, they still have excuses.

They look at one of our freaks at The Underground Strength Gymnasium, Curls, and they think he has special genetics and some sort of secret weapon.

Let me tell you this….

I have known Curls since he was in 4th grade. He was a chubby kid with the LEAST athletic potential. In tag games he was usually tagged first. He couldn’t do 1 good push up.

In middle school, he bagn thinning out, getting taller and performing lots of calisthenics on his own as well as playing various sports: Football, Basketball, Soccer and Track and Field.

He hit the weights HARD in high school. Harder than everyone else.

He joined The Underground when we were in the garage and field, and when he wasn’t training at The Underground, he was training at the high school, running stairs, doing pull ups on soccer goal posts or tree branches in the park. At night he did push ups.

He never skipped breakfast, or any meal for that matter. He brought protein bars to school to eat in between classes.

Today, Curls trains with the furey of a mad man. He can move BIG weight AND move at a VERY fast pace. A pace that makes others run to the designated “puke spot” around the corner of our gym.

That’s one story of a guy who had the least potential and is now the strongest guy in our gym and on his team (and that was as a Freshman in college!).

If you have excuses, then you’ll never build strength or muscle the way you want to.

Less talk, a lot more action = building a lot of strength and a lot of muscle.

You choose.

In Strength,

–Zach–

P.S. - See how we build freaky strength and muscle with our Underground Methods. We don’t mess around.

Zach’s Strength Workout

June 20th, 2008

Today, I feel like I have trained all day.

From the running of the hills with my daughter in her jogger, to a short yet powerful dumbbell workout in my backyard, to the unplanned full body work I did today at my Underground Strength Gymnasium.

Here’s what I did today with my buddy Grif.

Grif warmed up with 2 sets of sled drags and then began squatting. I didn’t plan on training but after his squats began the barbell forward lunge, so I decided to jump in.

We hit barbell forward lunges for 3 x 6 each leg.

next was a Kettlebell superset:

2A) double Kettlebell swings 2 x 6

2B) double Kettlebell cleans 2 x 6

I worked up to double 88 lb Kettlebells on my last superset.

After the Kettlebell work I hit one set on the sled and one set on the prowler.

People underestimate the power of unilateral leg work and Kettlebell training.

Unilateral leg training is awesome for lower body strength and adding muscle.

Kettlebell training is great for countless reasons, but for the superset I performed, we’re working grip, hitting the lower back and hamstrings heavily and developing tremendous hip and lower body power.

After the sled and prowler work I finished with 100 reps of bodyweight pushing exercises broken down like so:

push ups x 50 in a row

rest 60 seconds

push ups on parallel handles x 25

followed by 15 dips and 10 push ups on the gymnastics rings

Before I went home I hit 4 sets of mixed grip pull ups for 10 reps each and a few sets of power wheel roll outs for 6 reps each.

What a day and what a workout!

Feels good to grind out some serious training!

Most days I am waaaaay too busy for these workouts, but I was lucky and got them in today! REALLY lucky!

Now its your turn!

Go get em’! Attack whatever you do!

In Strength,

–Zach–

P.S. - If you like seeing these workouts, I post all our workouts on The Underground Forum on an almost daily basis! Click HERE and get in on the action!

Training for MMA and Combat

June 20th, 2008
· Filed Under: Uncategorized · Videos

My gym, The Underground Strength Gymnasium, is connected to an auto garage. On the side of that garage, the owner throws old tires away. Some with the wheel still intact, others just the tire. I snagged a few and helped guys make these tires into sleds. They were happy :)

Can you build muscle and build strength through the use of things you might find in a junk yard?

You better believe it.

Check out the video below and fast forward to the 1 minute mark. I am not too fond of the partial reps and pump training this fighter does, although he can kick my ass :)

Many athletes are successful in spite of their training methods because of their high skill levels.

There are many incomplete and / or incorrect training programs, and for any athlete, the partial reps and light pump training is what I wouldn’t want to see, unless it was a deload session.

The explosive work with the tire in this video is some really good stuff.

You can do this with a light kettlebell as well.

Check out the video and pay attention to how you can get in some tire training or any other form of Underground Strength Training to deliver ass kickin’ results.

In Strength,

–Zach–

P.S. - When my athletes stopped following the traditional workouts most people use in gyms today, their results exploded. I want you to learn these methods, either through the up and coming Gladiator Seminar, or through Underground Strength Coach.
