Underground Strength Show # 11 - Trip through the woods

Off on a trip through the woods to see what I can find, see what you can do, and shed some light with my “minute of motivation”.

There are more wild adventures on the way, plus, footage of my battle to beat the trap bar deadlift record at Joe DeFranco’s gym.

Try this quicky…

Short on time and low on equipment?

All you need is a dumbbell or a kettlebell.

Try this workout I cranked out the other day in my backyard!

I used an olympic dumbbell weighing 75 lbs. Pick a weight that works for you.

1) 1 arm snatch x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

2) 1 arm push press x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

** Try to switch arms on dumbbell movements without rest. For example, perform 5 reps per arm, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 each arm without ever placing the dumbbell down!

3) broad jumps across backyard 4 x 10 reps

If you don’t have a backyard, simply switch directions after each broad jump. This workout can be done in your bedroom, backyard, garage, basement and yes, even in a commercial gym.

Remember, dumbbell or kettlebell, it doesn’t matter!

You can get yourself damn strong using workouts that focus on dumbbells or kettlebells mixed in with powerful bodyweight training!

This workout oughtta last just under 15 minutes, but, if you really push the pace, who knows, you might finish this bad boy in under 10 minutes!

Go get em’!

Apollo’s “TOUGH Gym”

Have you ever seen Rocky III where Apollo takes Rocky back to the old school gym he used to train at where everyone has the “Eye of the Tiger”?

That gym look liked a shit sty, there’s no two ways about that. But, regardless of the equipment, or the fact that this was a movie, I have seen how atmosphere can make all the difference in the world when it comes to results.

Follow a crappy strength program in a high energy, eye of the tiger environment and watch results come faster than a speeding jet. Follow a great program in some fancy health club and watch the struggle for results…..it’s inevitable.

The most sought after piece of the puzzle for working out is getting results. Most people simply don’t get any! Change your atmosphere and watch your results change for the better.

I have been getting phone calls to the gym from all over the states and e mails from all over the world, all talking about how changing the training tools and getting out of the fancy local health clubs has improved their training by leaps and bounds.

Today, our athletes trained outdoors for much of their workout, soaking up the sun, the fresh air and the energy of the outdoors.

Look around the local health club, who there has the eye of the tiger? I am sure you are saying that noone does. But, get to one of those run down, old school, basic sweat shops that are so rare to find nowadays and you’ll see everyone has the eye of the tiger.

Once you get an inside look at what we do at The Underground you’ll quickly see how you can organize your own Underground Strength Club. I did this myself in a small section of a garage and a backyard, now it’s your turn to take advantage.

The Earth is Shaking

I am so pumped for the soon to be released new product I am tightening up.

It is packed with so much info and tons of killer bonuses…Oh man, I am so psyched can feel the earth shaking!

This new product will really give you an inside look at how I train with my insane schedule.

Speaking of training, I am setting up some backyard tools because there are times on the weekend when I really need to train just to clear my head.

I have a 70 lb Kettlebell, a climbing rope and next on my list will be a long chain, a long tow strapĀ and some PVC piping to rig up a suspended pull up bar from a thick branch in the backyard.

The Farm Boys I Met Years Ago…

Wow, today’s workout was bad ass. It was a mix of indoor and outdoor training. Th cold weather really hits the lungs and I miss that feeling which I experienced back in the day of my nightly winter runs during wrestling season.

That was in the early 90’s, and that was also when Rocky IV was already out, why didn’t more of us learn from that movie?

The way he trained with stones, chopped wood, pushed sleds, ran through snowy mountains and performed pull ups on the wooden beams was impressive to the onlooker, but the majority of us still congregated to the traditional gym.

Still, in the traditional gym, we should have been working those BIG lifts like hang cleans and barbell rows and stayed away from the majority of theĀ isolation exercises.

I unfortunately ran into a few guys who trained in this fashion back when I was wrestling.
