Bodyweight Workout & Animal Training

I’m a HUGE fan of Bodyweight training and full blown Bodyweight workouts.

This morning I had some work to do at the new house and my nearby neighbor, Uncle Mike Stehle, owns a gym 10 minutes away, you can check it out HERE, it’s a Kick Ass Place!

I was planning on doing heavy Deadlifts and Kettlebell work but Uncle Mike asked me to jump in on the group workout he was about to Coach, and his partner, one of the most bad ass dudes on the east coast, ‘The Milk Man’ was gonna take the class.

Our workout was pretty damn nasty, training for 30 minutes with 30 seconds work / 30 seconds rest.

We cranked weighted jump ropes, Animal crawls, pull ups, squats and more. My upper body was especially hammered from supporting myself on my hands during the workout.

Last time I trained with The Milk Man I got crushed, so I had to try to stay neck to neck with him, it was close, but Milk Man still outconditions me easily!!! I WILL redeem myself!

Anyway, sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in your “own” style of training, whatever that style may be. It’s a great idea to get outside your normal environment and normal training circumstances and do something different.

You can’t just be strong with one tool such as a barbell or kettlebell, you must possess the ability to demonstrate athleticism, body control and overall conditioning. Strength without endurance is NOT a good thing in the real world.

Even powerlifters, bodybuilders and olympic lifters need conditioning, it improves recovery ability and the ability to tolerate intense workouts.

I’m a HUGE believer in Bodyweight training integrated into your existing workouts as well full blown, bodyweight workouts.

At my gym, we climb ropes, jump on and over objects, walk on our hands from various positions, perform handstand push ups and countless pull up variations with countless handles to grip onto allowing us to improve our grip strength as well.

curls hill sprintsSprinting up hills are older than dirt yet they are brutally effective for conditioning and improving your speed.

You can also perform jumps up hills or stairs.

I want to see more athletes with the ability to perform the following:

50 push ups

10 pull ups

5 handstand push ups

climb a 15′ rope

squat 50 reps

I see too many athletes who can bench BIG but yet can’t do 50 push ups, let alone TEN PUSH UPS!

I’m excited to be living near the beach, this means more sprints in the sand and more bodyweight workouts, most certainly with Uncle Mike and The Milk Man.

Time for you to train like an animal!

A Day of Underground Strength Training

Here’s a lil’ taste of my training goin’ down at The Underground Strength Gym, in good ol’ Edison, NJ!

There ya have it, some of my favorite lifts:

Squats: I’ll squat anything and anyway possible. I’ll use a box, no box, with bands, chains, sandbags, kettlebells and thick bars for zercher squats.

Deadlifts: I’ll use a regular bar, thick bar or trap bar. This is the ultimate exercise to develop serious, brute strength and a barn door back!

Bench Press: Using thick bars and all types of specialty barbells, the bench press gets a bad wrap, but it’s only a bad wrap by those who have no clue how to use and perform the bench press properly. And for the record, it doesn’t matter if your sport doesn’t require you to lay on your back and press, if you need strong, powerful pushing muscles, then you should be benching in some form or another unless you have an injury preventing you from benching!

Kettlebell Training: Kettlebells are NOT the magic bullet, BUT, they do require skill and athleticism to use them properly and effectively, and if you want to become a better athlete, they WILL help. The details required to master Kettlebell Training can separate the men from the boys.

Who is willing to focus and stay committed to learning the proper skills and technique, OR, who will quit and give up when frustration sets in as they learn the details of proper Kettlebell training?

sergio lat spread

Bodyweight Training: Pull Ups and all bodyweight pulling movements such as rope climbing and all the different grips you can use for chins and pull ups are a MUST have if you wanna be strong and develop a barn door back.

If you can’t pull your own body then you need to get stronger and lose excess body fat, plain and simple. Master your own Body. Period.

Drop a comment below with your favorite lifts.

Peace.

Liftin’ Overhead and HEAVY!

howorth

Booya Baby!

OK, so maybe my overhead isn’t heavy for YOU, but I’m pushin’ for the 225 lb overhead push press. It’s coming…..you will see.

Watch me get busy and see how I get innovative AND pumped….

Those swiss bar pull ups rocked like Old School Van Halen.

Please tell me you know who Van Halen is…..and David Lee Roth!

I’ll surely be ordering some new power racks for The Underground shortly, guaranteed to have the monkey bars attached.

You do remember I eat pull ups for breakfast, eh mate? So should you, 10 pull ups is the minimum you should be able to pull, if your under 175 lbs, 20 reps is the minimum.

Wait till you see the rest of this upper body blastin’ workout! It’s bad ass and I got a crazy pump from it.

Drop a comment, let me know your thoughts on training, music, life, and why you plan to kick ass and take names and not be a slave to the norms of living!

Peace!

How to Build SERIOUS Strength and Old School Strength Secrets

robby robinson biceps

My bruddah Jim Wendler is a strong mofo, no 2 ways about it.

I interviewed him for The Underground Strength System and he unleashed info that will transform any weakling into a Beast – ONLY if they put in the work.

I NEVER said getting stronger and adding muscle was easy, it’s NOT.

By the videos below, you can tell Jim KNOWS how to develop a program that builds strength.

After you watch the videos, check out what Jim and I spoke about regarding the development of strength and some old school strength secrets.

Jim and I spoke about how Robby Robinson used to train, and Robby reported that his favorite and most result producing exercises were the following:

- power cleans

- dips

- chins

- sprints in the sand

Can we argue with Robby Robinson, The Black Prince?robby robinson lat spread

I can’t say that I can argue with Jim either, the dude KNOWS strength inside and out.

Jim and I chatted about training hard with the basic core lifts only 2 – 3 x week, and on other days rocking out some Black Prince training, tons of ring push ups, dips, pull ups and sprints or prowler pushing.

These workouts will slap muscle on your entire body in addition to improving your conditioning.

If you can sprint hills or sprint the prowler for repeated sets you will have powerhouse legs and high octane conditioning.

Try supersetting 10 sets of mixed grip chins and dips non stop. Your lats will be on fire even when you’re cranking away on the dips.

In a nut shell, you GOTTA be strong. Strength is your foundation. There is no such thing as a weak dude who is explosive and highly conditioned.

Get stronger and you will:

- pack on muscle

- improve conditioning

- be mentally tougher

Let the foundation begin Bruddahs.

Peace!

Underground Strength Gym High School Pull Up Contest

A few of the high school bruddahs needed a lil’ extra motivation so i decided to crank an unannounced pull up contest to win our latest Underground T Shirts.

You’ll see they ALL hit double digits.

What’s more important is that not long ago, some of these kids were only performing 3 pull ups with less than stellar technique.

One of these athletes was not able to perform ONE pull up!

Remember Kids: Eat Your Pull Ups for Breakfast!

Check the vid and drop a comment, show some luv!

I do pull ups every single day I’m at the gym.

What about you, how often do you crank pull ups and why?

Let us know in the comments.

Peace!

–Z–

PS: Some say I’m a lucky guy b/c I own my gym and do what I love. It has NOTHING to do with luck. I busted my ass and learned the HARD way. I have a system for training and for marketing. It allows me to pull 6 figures from the gym. It started part time, in my garage.

If you want to kick ass more than anything else in this world, then you can do it anywhere. If you’re SERIOUS, I can show you the way Here ==> http://zacheven-esh.com/license.php

Jersey Shore Challenge III: Bodyweight Training with Pull Ups & Peg Board Climbing

Redemption Time.

I just got my ass kicked during the brutal Jersey Shore Challenge.

Pauly Reddick of course verbally abuses me and I used my bread and butter to redeem myself: The Pull Up.

The Peg Board, well, that’s another story.

I tried this when I first got to their gym and it was rough. AFTER the workout, somehow, someway, I got it a bit.

A little practice and I can kick that peg board’s add!

Check it:

Can you count the number of times Paul Reddick calls me son?

Whatcha think of those pull ups and that peg board.

The last few videos you guys have slacked on the comments.

Step that shit up SON. I wanna see 20+ comments on every video.

Share and exchange ideas. Ask questions or just leave a comment.

Bodyweight Training: The Power Behind Pull Ups

When I started doing pull ups back in high school I could only do 2 or 3 in a row.

But, I read ALL of Arnold’s books and I remember him tlaking about goal setting, and one of those goal setting stories related to his pull up goals, in which he would do pull ups until he could no longer hold onto the bar.

Sounded like a GREAT idea, so I went to the gym freshman year in high school, I was 14 years old, asked my Dad to pick me up in 3 hours. I LOVED the gym and would stay ALL day if i could.

I did set after set of pull ups that day. Eventually 3 pull ups in a row became 2, and then 2 pull ups in a row became 1.

After 2 hours my hands were shot, my lats were fried and I couldn’t even pull myself up anymore.

For 3 or 4 days my lats were so freaking sore it hurt simply having my arms hanging at my sides. The soreness went into my arm pits and man was I aching, but man did I LOVE IT :)

Today, at 220 lbs I can easily crank out 20 + pull ups and very close to 30 pull ups.

Check out this video of me and 2 of my earliest clients cranking the playground pull ups…

If you can’t crank pull ups you better start practicing.

I do various forms of pull ups 5 days a week. It is this regular practice that allows me to crush the pull ups and jack up my back, shoulders, biceps, forearms and grip.

Thoughts or comments on the video? Post them below!

Let me know what other bodyweight videos you want to see and stay tuned for tomorrow because I seriously have my favorite video coming that I know you WILL love!

Peace!

PS: In a few days I’ll be releasing my Lost Art of Bodyweight Kit. Stay tuned because you will have the chance to win a FREE copy :)
