Underground Strength Inspiration WINNERS!

Holy S**t! The Underground Strength Coach Inspiration Contest BLEW ME AWAY!

And by reading ALL the comments, I can see YOU were also inspired!

I am beyond amazed and inspired by the videos that were made.

I compiled the votes that came through my e mail (which was A LOT!), the Blog comments and the 4 people I had judging and man it was a SERIOUS fight for 1st place between BIg Dan and Chris the BEAST.

There was also some SERIOUS love for the Virginia Beach Beast, Matty Wichlinski. Matt contributed and is already a Expert Panelist at http://UndergroundStrengthCoach.com as did Dominik Feischl from Austria, who is also on the Underground Expert Panel.

These two Beasts already have lifetime membership to Underground and did not need the “awards” to inspire them. They are Strength addicts, as we all are, and is what inspired them to take action. Hells Yea!

So, we decided to make a top 3.

This was calculated by the e mails, Blog comments and the 4 friends I had voting as well.

The fight for 1st place was CLOSE but one man edged out another!

The “Secret” Everyone Forgot to Tell You About

kirk kaworski There are MANY secrets out there teaching you how to get strong as hell, add 2 inches to your biceps overnight, add 20 lbs of muscle in 2 weeks….

But, there is a “Secret” that so many have forgotten to tell you about.

It’s called Gut Bustin’, Hard F***ing Work!

Yep….. Das da truth, Baby.

And let me let you in on another secret, my friend, the training isn’t just what you do when you’re in the gym or where ever it is you do your iron lifting.

It’s ALSO what you do when you’re NOT in the gym.

This is when some REAL discipline kicks in.

Are you eating enough?

Are you eating the RIGHT foods that support muscle growth?

Do you sleep enough?

Do you do the RIGHT things when nobody is looking?

Training might only take as little as 2 – 3 hours a week if you train in short 30-45 minute bursts a few times a week.

But, what about all the other hours that fill up your day and night?

If you’re an athlete, it means working on your weak areas and transforming your weakness into a strength.

It means constant pushing towards mastering your skill, going the extra inch as often as possible and NOT allowing yourself to hang out or associate with weak minded people.

The pussification of the human race is rising.

People fear hard work and they seem to much rather enjoy getting fat(ter), lazy(er) and sitting on the couch watching Football games as they scream at professional athletes for not living up to their athetic standards (Yes, I know, VERY ironic).

You’re either in the fight against the pussification of the human or you’re supporting it.

Jersey Shore Challenge III: Bodyweight Training with Pull Ups & Peg Board Climbing

Redemption Time.

I just got my ass kicked during the brutal Jersey Shore Challenge.

Pauly Reddick of course verbally abuses me and I used my bread and butter to redeem myself: The Pull Up.

The Peg Board, well, that’s another story.

I tried this when I first got to their gym and it was rough. AFTER the workout, somehow, someway, I got it a bit.

A little practice and I can kick that peg board’s add!

Influence, How to Make a Difference, the Giving Hand, Pay it Forward & How to Win

I recently returned from an awesome weekend up in North NJ where I tore up the stage with business and training info. This is a DEEP blog post so please take the time to read through and of course, get your chance to WIN some serious shizza.

I spent many hours with my homeboy, Chris McCombs and his wife, and had the chance to hang with Gary Vaynerchuk again and talk a lil biz. Great times were spent in NYC and thanks to my classy driving everyone stayed alive even as I drove the wrong way down a one way street.

Chris, his wife Sarah and Marcell the camera man remained WAY TOO CALM with my driving skills and it was possibly thanks to their layed back, SoCal attitude. Jason Ferruggia would have called me a “Jersey Fuck”. Nice :)

While on stage, I had flashbacks of Alwyn Cosgrove coaching me through the creation of my business, WHILE he was undergoing treatment for cancer. He kept telling me to “take the jump”, “Go Big Time” and he pushed me to the edge and through new boundaries.

I had memories of my Grandfather telling me how he outworked both my Dad and my Uncle AFTER working the night shift while building his house and the temps reached 100 + degrees in Israel.

When I shared my “tough times” with the crowd in my gut and in my heart I KNEW 2 THINGS:

1) Nothing is tougher than my Grandfather losing his entire family to the Holocaust, being in 3 different military units in 3 different countries, working the night shift and then coming home and building a house (this house was beyond beautiful with fruit trees surrounding the entire house and exotic birds flying around while exotic lizards scale the walls and trees).

2) Alwyn Cosgrove beat cancer Twice AND still ran a super successful gym AND bought a new fucking house while going through chemo treatment!

My “tough times” were trivial compared to these 2 men.

These 2 men especially spurred my drive to succeed in addition to my family. I KNOW I must represent for my wife and kids and if times get tough I simply need to think for a mere second of any of the above.

Things get put in perspective right away when I think of Cosgrove, my family and my Grandfather.

So, Sunday evening I returned home and Monday morning I underwent knee surgery.

I wasn’t nervous one bit. I almost didn’t feel the right to be nervous.

It’s Thursday and I am feeling beyond grateful from all my past experiences and all the feedback I have been getting lately.

Is the feedback always good? Heck no, but no worries, I focus on the Good, and you should to.

Lots of people were telling me how much they love the blog and love The Underground web site. Stories of how it has helped them in their own training, their business, their motivation, inspiration and education.

It reminded me of Cosgrove and I talking about the Pay it Forward principle. If you don’t know it, watch this video I have for you…

Homemade Sandbag Training

Check out Underground Strength Coach, Matty Wichlinski, making a homemade Sandbag.

I’m gonna crank a few of these myself and get our athletes squatting, lunging, jumping and throwing them.

You know I love sandbag training and sandbags were actually my first substitute for a barbell.

I didn’t have the cash for a barbell and making a sandbag ran me under $30 bones, so I made a 50 and a 100 lb bag and I got my ass handed to me cranking out the following sandbag exercises:

- clean and press

- shouldering

- carries up hill

- loading onto tall objects

- power clean & catch

Sandbag training to this day is a HUGE part of how I train and how I train my athletes.

Episode # 138: Underground Muscle Building with Tire Flipping, Bodyweight Training & Sleds

Just a lil’ highlight of the beasts who stopped by the day before our Lost Secrets of Strength Seminar (coming soon on DVD).

Dudes cruised in from around the country as far as Cali!

They just wanted to watch our Friday crew train but the Underground bug snagged them into the workout and the energy was so damn high we took over the entire parking lot!

This kind of training packs on the muscle and strength like no tomorrow.

REAL Man Muscle Building Ain’t No Joke!

At the end of a LONG day at The Underground Strength Gym, Canada’s Pro Strongman, Paul Vaillancourt, stopped by the gym today with his entourage.

With plans of stopping by for 5 PM they got lost in the Dirty Jerzee and enjoyed some scenery in what some call the ghetto, others call the projects – not a fun place to be driving through with a mini van, a fauly GPS and not a clue as to where the heck you’re going!

We talked biz and training for 10 minutes and I was itching to train.

Before my clients rolled up I cranked out 5 heavy sets of 5 reps in the T Bar Row with 5 plates.

I call this “chunking”, something I detail fully in my REAL Man Muscle Building System.

I was planning on cranking a workout for a solid 15 minutes when I shut down, but I didn’t want to be rude to Paul and his entourage of strongman beasts, so I told them, I have a missed call from my wife AND a voice mail – we have 15 minutes, let’s train.

They ALL jumped in.

UP went the stereo and I cranked some serious tunes and the race was on!

The energy was SICK!

Music cranking all the way, chalk and HEAVY dumbbells were starting to get thrown around.

Paul rocked out some 150 lb snatches and clean and presses with the globe dumbbell, which is WAY tougher than a traditional dumbbell because the handle is bent and it doesn’t revolve in your hand, making the grip factor 20 X tougher.

We all hit 2 or 3 all out sets of the dumbbell snatch / clean & press combo and then we moved onto endless variations of pull ups, every set was with a 20 lb chain around the neck!

In 15 minutes we were done!

Paul and his crew were lovin’ it.

I told them that I don’t BS about these 15 minute workouts.

They responded how much they loved it and how they couldn’t see one area of the body NOT getting worked!

When someone tells me they need more than 15 minutes to get the job done, I invite them to train with me and I’ll show them how to get BUSY in 15 minutes.

Having a full time job, a gym, an internet biz and MOST importantly, being a Father & a Husband – time is limited, and I tear shit up when 15 minutes if available.

Crankin’ the Bodyweight Training with Joel Marion, Body for Life Champion

Ya gotta love bodyweight exercises – ALL of them.

You can do them anywhere, anyplace, anytime.

Push Ups are a bodyweight exercise I LOVE!

Watch the Video below and then I have a CRAZY story for you regarding push ups and other bodyweight exercises….

That’s the end of my quick workout with Joel Marion. It was at the end of a loooong night and Joel has been cranking away with his Underground Nutrition Tips so I KNEW that a fast and furious bodyweight workout would get the juices flowing.

When I started doing Push Ups I was in the 7th Grade. In fact, it was the summer before 8th grade as I vividly recall.

The neighborhood gang was hanging out one night and we all got around to arm wrestling.

I LOST EVERY SINGLE MATCH!

It was f**ing embaressing!

I went home that night and it was around 9:30 PM and I decided that every night before bed and every morning upon rising I would do 1 set of max push ups.

That night I did TWO PUSH UPS!

You read that correctly, there is NO typo there, 2 push ups! I collapsed mid way through rep # 3!

The next night I did 3 push ups, the following night was 4 push ups and I still recall the night I cranked out 7 push ups because the NEXT DAY I finally won my first arm wrestling match!

I was happier than a Pig in Mud! I was getting my ass handed to me for almost an entire week and once I got my first victory in arm wrestling I thought push ups were THE KING!

I’ll keep the pull ups story for another time…
