Strength & Conditioning / Athletic Development for Middle School & Youth Athletes
Every week I get questions from Coaches and Parents asking for guidance on training their son, daughter, nephew, etc who is in middle school. Often times, these kids are in 6th grade and around age 11. If you're training kids before middle school, I believe the best guy to learn from is Jeremy Frisch. STRONG Life Podcast ep 287: Wrestling Strength & Conditioning Master Class Brought to you by SORINEX. Every year I hear stories from the wrestlers I train during the first 2 weeks of the season. The stories usually sound like this: "We haven't done any wrestling yet, we've just been running through halls and running stairs because the coaches want us to get in shape." Special Strength Training for Wrestlers – The KEY to Building Dominant Wrestlers
Many THINK they know what wrestlers need when it comes to "strength & conditioning" but I assure you, it is more than strength and more than conditioning. I still see training that is actually too "perfect" for wrestlers. I still see training that is too boring and common for wrestlers. Wrestlers are often "crazy" and eccentric, especially at the higher levels. So, as they get more advanced in wrestling, the training must challenge them mentally and physically. I've been around … [Read more...]
Strength Training in Your 40s: MAN STRENGTH
As we "get older", there comes a point in time where you must ensure that you are capable. The excuses of age, time and anything else are really all just BS. At the time of this writing I am creeping up on age 46. I don't chase the 1RM anymore but I still lift heavy with the basics. I make sure my heart is pumping with sleds and hill sprints. Some of you have airdyne bikes and rowers, this is excellent. Bodyweight Training is a must. You should always be able to squat, lunge, pull … [Read more...]
Training for When SHTF aka Training for Life
Training for sport is one thing. Training for Life takes on a whole new meaning. The "rules" of training don't apply as much. You look around and see that you can train with anything, anywhere. You realize that "training" must go beyond the gym walls. Beyond the weights. You realize that the ease and convenience of everything is holding you back. You soon realize that being strong is offensive to many. You will be taxed and penalized for eating meat. "They" want you eating more soy. … [Read more...]
