Express YOself
My training, as I’ve stated so often before, comes from my heart & soul. I let my emotions & energy levels dictate what the workout will look and feel like.
But….. this is NOT how I program workouts for others or for my athletes…. I’m talking about how I train myself. Most of the time I simply go by feel, expressing how I feel through strength.
This is another SOUL Lifter workout. It begins with a set of max pull ups and then onto ladder drills of the Kettlebell Snatch, inspired by Pavel.
My self expression doesn’t always come from lifting, but, it almost always comes through movement. That might be skateboarding, mountain biking, running….
Question for YOU: How do your express yourself?
In Strength,

My self expression comes from being light and explosive. Be it carving around single track on my bike or firing off kicks while sparing. At the same time it comes from doing strength moves with 100% control and concentration.

STONES! My favorite thing to do with my boys is walking around the old rock quarry park seeking out rocks to lift.
There is no better expression than who I am than lifting stones for a couple reps then grabbing my boys hands and walk a little further until we come across another rock for me to lift.

Jumping into our lake for a swim in late November early December. I swim until the lake freezes. My boys and I coined it a Viking Bath. When a neighbor asked why we would go out there my oldest responded, “It makes you tough.”
Long hair, always needing a shave, cut off shorts, t-shirt, metal music listening, stone lifting, weightlifting, paleo eating, gardener that prides himself as a postive influence on his boys life.
Like you say-Lead from the front!

Carrying, dragging, pulling and pushing all sorts of weighted objects. Believe it or not, when I was 16-18 years old living in a little farm-town…my nick name was/is the Tugboat (after my dad). “That boy there can lift, pull or drag anything” I take great pride in that.
To me, the greatest test on myself is when i carry heavy weights for insane distances. Sure, just about anybody can eventually deadlift a 500lb barbell. To carry heavy weighted objects via logs, chains, kegs, stones and whatnot…for crazy distances takes guts and pure willpower. Dragging weights requires you to grab ahold and muster up that badassness you got in yourself and prove you got what it takes. This is how i express myself.
