Odd Object Lifting at The Jersey Shore
Some of the strongest men known to man kind never lifted traditional weights. Instead, they only lifted odd objects such as stones, kegs and other awkward, heavy objects.
The rep ranges used by these strongmen were often in the 1 – 5 range, NEVER training to failure, instead, strength was a skill that they practiced, nothing more.
This allowed progress to remain steady and strength became shocking and respected by those around.
Check out the vid below, after some conditioning work, I hit various deadlifts with an odd object, a large block of heavy iron weighing somewhere in the 250 – 300 lb range.
Good stuff happenin’ at The Jersey Shore, no doubt….
Try hitting an odd object workout once a week for the next 5 or 6 weeks.
Don’t train to fatigue, treat strength as a skill, rest a bit longer than normal. Use various objects such as stones, sandbags, water filled kegs and who knows what else you can find. Take a trip to the junk yard, you could get lucky. I ALMOST did, remember that time?
Question for You: What odd objects do you use, or, perhaps laying around and you’re about to use? Drop a comment and share your workouts with odd objects. Psyched to see the wild stuff you guys come up with!

Comments on Odd Object Lifting at The Jersey Shore
At the moment I have a 120 pound log I picked up from a friends house after they cut a tree down. And a 100lb stone I got from our cabin! I use them in my workouts around once a week! I also have a couple sandbags! Love using odd objects makes things fun and deffinatly a challenge!!

This is not strong man lifting, per se, since I’m a woman. But sometimes I lift my dad’s tool box, that’s an odd object and it’s pretty heavy too!

Great video Zach! I especially like your discussion on advanced lifters vs. advanced wrestlers. You’re right on with that man!

hey Zack, I pick up a huge tractor tire (18.4-30) i don’t know how much it weights but its kinda heavy, one day me and some friends we gather around to practice the tire-battle like in your videos, it was awesome, we end up very tired for days but it was fun, once a week we try meet together to train with this odd weapon of massive construction.
