Porn Mustaches, Building Functional Muscle, BEAST Strength & Fat Loss?!?!
I must admit, Florida has always freaked me out, nothing ever seems right when I’m in Florida unless I’m in Disney World. One minute you can be in the hood, then 2 blocks away are million dollar town homes located next to several blocks of vacant store fronts followed by a beautiful park…. jam packed with homeless people.
Here’s another Florida Unsolved Mystery….. This Guy is kinda strange, sports a 70s porn mustache, wears 80s bodybuilding baggy pants (and he does ALL this in Public!), listens to strange music but damn…..
He knows how to get strong as hell, how to build muscle, how to build functional muscle and he is jacked AND ripped.
I’m down to learn from anyone, and our Florida Unsolved Mystery, aka Mandler, is a straight up BEAST. What this guy does works, that’s the straight up TRUTH.
Get after his workouts HERE & build functional muscle while burning fat at the same time.

Comments on Porn Mustaches, Building Functional Muscle, BEAST Strength & Fat Loss?!?!
Now that’s some SERIOUS intensity-Florida does have reputation of having too many old guys on Viagra in sports cars, endless golfing and laziness-glad to see someone else pushing hard to get what they want

I can think of 3 redeeming qualities of Florida: Elliott Hulse, Matt Wichlinski, and Chandler Marchman aka MANdler. He has the formula for success and gives a lot a good quality free info on his YouTube channel. Sometimes he is like a car accident; you just can’t help but stare lol. He seems to hold the same values you do Z, honor and integrity. He is pretty funny too. But you’re still the best Zach.

Hi Zac,
Thanks for the post, you’re right too, the guy definitely brings intensity to his workouts.
One small thing i noticed was his lumbar spine rounding out on the RDL’s in vid 3. I mention it because whilst I’m a huge fan of committing to the workout, stuff like that is unnecessary and doesn’t lead to any better results.
In spite of that though I loved everything else the guy did and the passion he did it with.
Cheers,
Jez
P.S. definitely not keen on the pink pants though

@Jez: Jez, I see Chandler doing this in his stone lifts, with straight legs or almost straight legs, etc.
With his FREAK Strength, he gets away from it and, VERY likely, from training that technique for SOOOOO long, it is his body’s natural lifting position and it NEVER negatively effects him.
For me, I MUST keep the low back neutral and be VERY careful, I am also NOWHERE near the strength of Mandler.
This shows you, when you have TRUE Functional Muscle and Functional Strength you are waaaaaaay less likely to get injured compared to the weaker person.
Good eye, my man!

Hi Zach, just noticed I missed the ‘h’ off your name, my bad typing, no insult intended.

Hey Zach just got done with my workout today and wanted to see what you think of it.
I did 5 rounds of the following:
1) Ropes up and down together 30 reps
2) Bear crawl 10 meters forwards 10 meters backwards
3) Sandbag clean and press 10 reps 60lb bag
4) Hand walking with feet on scooter 10 meters forwards 10 meters backwards
5) Burpees 20 reps
6) Sled push 20 meters 300lb
I would do each exercise back to back with no rest, I only rested between rounds for about 1 min to 2 min.
Time go eat, there is a place in my neighborhood where they cook whole chickens on the grill the food is awesome and it is only $10!
Cheers,
Rock

That’s how it should be done awesome post. Hey if you have time look up chaos and pain.com my homeboy Jaime knows his stuff too. Maybe you could post some of his vids to help spread the word. And to jez so are you trying to say that strongmen lift the Atlas stones wrong? Their backs are as round as the stone they’re lifting. Food for thought.
[Reply]
@brent, If you look at the third video at the 0:52sec mark, you’ll notice that in the descent phase his lumbar spine rounds pretty badly, a definite no-no in my book, even more so with the kind of weight he’s using. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guys energy and his commitment to his training, As for when they’re lifting the stones in strongman, there’s actually less shearing on the spine relative to the weight because the stones brace the body slightly due to their mass. The all over contact between the stone and the body means the weight isn’t hanging entirely off the back muscles. Then again I still don’t think it’s the healthiest of exercises, although it will make you stronger. My point is, if there’s a valid reason for rounding the back then fine, I just didn’t think that in this case there was.

I watched the video again and I can see your point. I also see your point with the stones you can brace your back more so than rdl. No disrespect.

@Niko: Mandler has a strange sense of style but it would work in Florida and perhaps in some of the crazier areas of downtown NYC, aka East and West Village

Hi Zach,
I know I am going way off topic here but just have a question maybe for a future blog post.
Was just wondering what your thoughts were on client screening, you hear a lot about it and have also heard some top guys saying it is overated as most people have the same basic problems and just need to focus on their training.
Do you do much screening?
Thanks

@Darragh: I will address this for a future blog post for sure, thnx for the idea, I LOVE the feedback!!! ON it!

@brent None taken amigo, nothing wrong with questioning opinions.
[Reply]
@Darragh I’m sure Zach’ll reply, but my two cents on the subject is this:
Client screening is important, it just doesn’t have to be over complicated.
Whilst I agree that many people have similar issues, tight hip flexors, weak glutes, protracted shoulders, etc, not all of those issues have the same cause or warrant the same solution in different people.
Having said that, I think it comes down to two factors:
1. The diagnostic and prescriptive skill of the fitness professional – If you’re not that sure what you’re looking at or what to do about it, then stick with the basics.
2. The needs and wants of the client – If they’re coming to you to get their back pain sorted, then yes, assess fully and then prescribe. If they’re coming to you for fat loss and have bad posture, then focus on the fat loss, but use exercises that will improve their posture over time.
Hope that helps.
Jez

No denying the intensity! I wouldn’t dress that way, nor listen to that music, but hell what ever works.
I live by the motto-Lift heavy metal-Listen to heavy metal-Live for heavy metal!
It is very inspiring to see someone that really could care less what people think. Do what works and forget the haters!
