aj roberts
I’m here in Louisville, and on the way out here I stopped through Ohio to meet some friends of the iron game, took a trip through Westside Barbell club & recorded 15 minutes of it for Underground members.

Above, the custom Harley Davidson of Jim Wendler
I Spent a few hours in the Elite FTS Compound with Jim Wendler and AJ Roberts. Jim showed me his new Harley, hoping this would score him some coolness points, as I have been educating him on the ways of being a COOL Bruddah
NO easy feat, but he is learning!
We got to talking training and unleashed hell on how to get stronger, bigger, faster, develop mental toughness, how to optimally train athletes, how to train as you get older, avoiding injuries and tons more was spoken and exchanged, it was AWESOME.
You KNOW I LIVE for the iron game and talking iron is Golden to me!
It was pure gold and I LIVE for that stuff.
Above, just SOME of the Kettlebells from Westside Barbell Club
If you saw on Facebook, I posted a few pics of Westside Barbell Club and all the Kettlebells they had.
One Kettlebell was oversized and specially made, shaped like a small stone.
The powerlifters, MMA fighters and Football players there ALL use the Kettlebells for the following:
- prehab / rehab
- strength
- speed & power development
- grip strength
- mental toughness
- improving conditioning and fitness levels
It was great to see the strongest gym in the world staying on the cutting edge by using OLD pieces of “equipment” such as the Kettlebell.
I began using Kettlebells 6 years ago. They challenged me unlike any other training tool I ever used, and they also kicked my ass!
But, they REALLY did push my mental toughness to a new level, and with regards to “functional” strength, they have been KING.
Performing several movements back to back as I recently did with my athletes, or, performing sets for time, 4, 5, 6 minutes non stop without putting the kettlebells down is also a serious test of mental toughness yet at the same time develops strength endurance, power endurance and also increases muscle size….
especially in the shoulders, back, traps, hamstring areas.
I call this Hybrid Training, where you mix various movements of kettlebells
Mixed with bodyweight work, it is highly effective for the development of
brute strength, fat loss, speed development and improving conditioning.
The constant swinging of the kettlebell through your legs,
pulling & pushing the kettlebell overhead….
It packs on muscle and helps develop brute strength unlike any other training tool I have ever used.
Plus, you can take them anywhere, as I often do when I want to get away and train in seclusion, I carry them into the trails of the large park near by and perform my training amidst Mother Nature.

A recent Hybrid Kettlebell Workout my athletes performed, mixing kettlebells, bodyweight training and sled training pushed their mental toughness and physical conditioning to a whole new level.
Try adding this Hybrid into a workout:
1A) 1 arm Kettlebell snatch 3 x 5 reps
1B) mixed grip pull ups 3 x 5 reps
1C) ring push ups 3 x 5 reps
2A) 1 arm Kettlebell clean & press 3 x 5 reps
2B) mixed grip pull ups 3 x 5 reps
2C) ring push ups 3 x 5 reps
** THE Punisher **
Perform 1 set of # 3, Below, aka “THE Punisher”
3A) 1 arm snatch x 5 + 1 arm clean & press x 5 reps (perform both exercises before switching hands)
3B) mixed grip pull ups x 10
3C) ring push ups x 10
The above is just some of the ways I perform Kettlebell Hybrid Training.
These WILL build brute strength and mental toughnes beyond what you ever had before.
Try it and make it happen!
Peace!

Above, Sergio Oliva, a BIG proponent of The Bench Press
The Bench Press sucks.
Squats also suck.
They suck if you perform them wrong, OR, perform them too often.
Overuse injuries occur, unless, that is, you know how to build up all the support muscles and switch the angles at which you train to build up your bench and all your other pushing muscles.
You’re about to learn the secrets of getting a BIG Bench Press, but even more importantly, all the things you do to improve your bench press, are going to transform your upper body into a steel forged power pressin’ machine.
You see, in real life, pushing power from ALL angles is critical.
This is exactly why I personally execute, as well as my clients, push and press and throw objects from various angles. We throw kettlebells and stones, press sandbags, barbells, dumbbells, odd objects and more.
Pressing / Pushing power is not to be taken lightly, and one of the BIGGEST, yet most underlooked benefit of having a BIG Bench Press is what it does for confidence.
Don’t be misled by the fallacy that only powerlifters should bench press.
Powerlifter or not, you can learn from powerlifters who understand the application offorce.
Check out this video below and drop a comment with your thoughts, questions or anything that you want to share.
Notice how we bench with thick bars, incline press with awkward heavy dumbbells (130 lbs each hand!) and do thick bar military pressing. Those were Football players and Basketball players pressing away.
If you have a BIG Bench, post a comment and let us know why.
If your Bench sucks, post a comment and let us know why.
More to come manana bruddahs!
Peace!

Check out what happens when my college wrecking crew hijacks my flip cam and gets a lil’ wild on the bench press.
Don’t Forget…Drop a comment with your thoughts…
These guys love to bench big but don’t worry, this movement is cycled in / out of our program.
In fact, I would say that we floor press at least 75% of the time compared to the full range bench press.
But, my homeboy and Bench Press extraordinairre, AJ Roberts from Westside Barbell Club sent us a few sample templates on how these beasts can jack up their bench press, and now he has a Free course that you can check as well.
When someone like AJ talks and brings his knowledge and experience to the table regarding how to get STRONG, I listen.

Who wound up winning the weighted dip contest at The Underground Strength Gathering?
If Marvin Eder was there he woulda kicked everyone’s ass up and down the street.
But, because Marvin didn’t show, there’s a new Sherrif in town…..
So, at the end of the day, STRENGTH MATTERS!
Kill it!

This thing gets crazier and crazier!
I know, I know, you’re not shocked
And, in case you didn’t notice, episode # 100 is right around the corner!
Holy sh*t, time flies!
You & I BOTH know that time flies even if you’re NOT having fun.
So, f**k it, might as well do what you love and have fun in the process, right?
Check out part 2 of the Crazy Dip Contest….
If you think these dips with 200+ lbs are a big deal, then you’re mistaken my friend.
Marvin Eder has been said to have performed dips with 400+ lbs. Pretty bad ass
Till the next time,
Kill it!

Smitty from the Diesel Crew is one crazy SOB!
During our Underground Strength Gathering Smitty started grabbing chains from the rack, each one weighing 20 lbs, and started cranking out heavy sets of 1 rep dips.
Before you knew it, some of my athletes jumped in, AJ jumped in the contest was on!
Check the craziness……
I don’t do dips too often to save the shoulders. But, every other month or so I throw them in and pile the weight on. They’re old school and jack up the upper body like no other.
I think the heaviest I dipped was 220 lbs, but, that ain’t jack crap compared to the beastly Marvin Eder who rumor has it performed parallel bar dips with 420 lbs!
Golden Era + Diesel Crew + Underground = Bad Ass Mofo!
Kill it!

More holiday fun at The Underground.
The athletes loved the strength gathering and at the end of the day I headed home to the family and the crew headed out to eat up some BIG Grub. Good for them, they deserve it and it’s just like the guys did during the Golden Era.
Train together, eat together and then hang out together.
The bond is critical. The Underground is a family, not just a gym.
Check out my stone lift, gotta walk the walk!
Stones, anvils and…..
there’s more to come…
stay tuned for part 2!

Here is another lil’ taste of what we did during our X Mas morning Strength Gathering.
This was the FIRST time our guys rocked the atlas stone, it was great fun.
Notice how it requires strength AND athleticism. Flexibility and mobility through the hips, back and hamstrings – weak areas are exposed and mental toughness is tested.
If you think this strength gathering looked FUN, who knows what the hell is gonna happen this friday, January 9th! I’m holding a strength gathering for those attending The Underground Strength & Powerlifting Seminar, still a few spots left & you can sign up HERE.
I hope to see you this Friday & this weekend!
Kill it!

PS: I am in the midst of finishing the new web site for http://UndergroundStrengthManual.com – BUT, I edited and added a BOAT LOAD of new materials and updated info. I added 9 more audio interrogations and added a 1 year Underground Beast Strength program. You’ll see all the added info when you are taken to the thank you page.
