I always tell my athletes, “Eat your push ups & pull ups for breakfast!”
You MUST be GREAT at these 2 exercises, they are the foundation for upper body strength and power and work wonders for muscle building. I recently got a copy of The Convict Conditioning Push Up Series Course and the FIRST thing that struck me was all the coaching techniques, regressions and progressions.
I am AWAYS shocked when I have athletes at my gym who trained elsewhere and they are NOT performing the push up properly, NOT 1 good rep. To me, this is a failure of the Coach and a failure of Physical Education.
How can a high school athlete be unable to perform ONE perfect push up?
Has the high school PE Teacher been that UNcaring?

I’m often asked if Bodyweight Bodybuilding can be incorporated WITH an existing program that the person is already following. To be clear, this program is not so easy that you will need an added program or a variation of it.
But, I KNOW how many people are when it comes to actually following a training program as prescribed. They buy a program and then they want to change the program to something else, I guess this is human nature. But, those who follow the program to the T are the dudes who get best results.

It was a Friday morning and I was supposed to train 4 wrestlers inside a wrestling club where I’ve got a small Underground Strength Club going down.
The doors were locked. It was time for Plan B.
This is what I thrive on: shitty conditions, no equipment, no gym….. this is how I began and this is where I was, all over again, 8 years later. I was in my element and a day like this brought me back to my roots.
You gotta go back to your roots no matter what you do or where you are in life. It reminds you to remain humble and focus on what is important.
Time to use the Black Berry. Google local elementary schools with hopes that they haven’t pussified themselves and torn down all playgrounds, monkey bars and anything else Underground. Nowadays, a kid falls off the monkey bars the school board get scared and tears down ALL playground equipment.
NO playing! NO running! NO climbing! NO living??!!!
Lucky for me, the cards were in my favor because this playground was OLD school and looked like old world Russia and something Fedor would be caught training at.
There was sand for wrestling on, poles for climbing and pushing and tables for jumping and press.
Hells Yea, this is MY world. OUR world. The world of Underground.
In this video you’ll see two Division 1 wrestlers and 2 high school wrestlers, one of which is an undefeated state champ as a pure freshman and a youth national champ. I FEAR these kids and that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen when trained properly.

Ya gotta love bodyweight exercises – ALL of them.
You can do them anywhere, anyplace, anytime.
Push Ups are a bodyweight exercise I LOVE!
Watch the Video below and then I have a CRAZY story for you regarding push ups and other bodyweight exercises….
That’s the end of my quick workout with Joel Marion. It was at the end of a loooong night and Joel has been cranking away with his Underground Nutrition Tips so I KNEW that a fast and furious bodyweight workout would get the juices flowing.
When I started doing Push Ups I was in the 7th Grade. In fact, it was the summer before 8th grade as I vividly recall.
The neighborhood gang was hanging out one night and we all got around to arm wrestling.
I LOST EVERY SINGLE MATCH!
It was f**ing embaressing!
I went home that night and it was around 9:30 PM and I decided that every night before bed and every morning upon rising I would do 1 set of max push ups.
That night I did TWO PUSH UPS!
You read that correctly, there is NO typo there, 2 push ups! I collapsed mid way through rep # 3!
The next night I did 3 push ups, the following night was 4 push ups and I still recall the night I cranked out 7 push ups because the NEXT DAY I finally won my first arm wrestling match!
I was happier than a Pig in Mud! I was getting my ass handed to me for almost an entire week and once I got my first victory in arm wrestling I thought push ups were THE KING!
I’ll keep the pull ups story for another time…
I wanna hear about your experiences with bodyweight training, maybe you have a vivid story as I do, well, step up and let’s hear it!
Kill it!
