Here we GO! STRONG Life Podcast ep. 226 with my buddy, Josh Bryant. With COVID-19 locking down the entire world, and gym goers struggling along with the zoom workout bunnies, guys like myself and Josh Bryant are TRAINING. This style of training is another day at the office for us. Bodyweight Bodybuilding was created in 2010, maybe 2009 and it's been 1 of the most effective & popular courses I've released. This style of training, whether it was all bodyweight training or building my … [Read more...]
The Benefits of High Rep Bodyweight Training
After going through my Bodyweight Bodybuilding course for some edits, reviews and updates, I changed up some programming for the athletes at The Underground Strength Gym. 1 of those updates was organizing their extra days with more volume of bodyweight squats. Yes, the simple bodyweight squat! I will post a photo below with that sample "extra day" along with some video footage. So make sure you read the entire article.... Now, almost 20 years ago I recall studying Indian Wrestling … [Read more...]
Getting Back to the Bells’ & Bodyweight Training + Donnie Thompson (SuperD) Inspiration
Here and there I catch myself getting away from training that is more Physical Culture based and end up chasing numbers. Now, there is NOTHING wrong with being Strong. But something was missing for me. I wanted to feel the toughness and challenge of working with circuits / complexes of Kettlebells, Fat Bell, Center Mass Bells. With my shoulder injury some years ago, I limit the overhead work but testing Donnie Thompson's Bow Tie made everything feel fine! … [Read more...]
Physical Culture & Better Health with Max Shank
Episode 123 of The STRONG Life Podcast is with my friend Max Shank who I connected with 10+ years ago after seeing him on early days YouTube lifting BIG stones & competing in ShootFighting. I've been inspired and educated with seeing Max training and bringing back physical culture in a way that blends all aspects of Health & Strength together. It is refreshing and inspiring to say the least. Playing with some #ultimateathleticism movements in the wind/rain. There are two … [Read more...]
Talking Smart VS BUILDING Agile, Mobile & Hostile Athletes
Your training program can look the fanciest, have the most precise percentages listed and look awesome on paper, but..... If the program is NOT followed with: Technique Intensity Aggression Passion Then it doesn't matter how Bulgarian, Russian or whatever your program is. I've seen this way too often, Coaches and lifters obsessing over what the program looks like on paper. Don't show me how this looks on paper, show me what you DO in the weight room and how it has carry … [Read more...]
Do What You Can, Even When You Can’t
Whether you're a sport athlete or a hard charging lifter, injuries and obstacles will always be popping up on your journey. I am still trying to figure out WHY they happen. Is it all about movement? Because I see some horrific stuff that would destroy my body and those people don't get injured from it. Then I see people who move great and do all the right things: nutrition, lifestyle, etc and they DO get hurt. I think it's part of your journey. Maybe it's a test to see where you fit in this … [Read more...]
The Problem With Strength Training Advice On The Internet
Here's a little news flash that will hurt many people's feelings: Just because you see it on YouTube doesn't mean it's what ALWAYS happens in that person's training. Just because the guy behind the camera is ripped doesn't mean he knows more about training than the other Coach. The internet has given us opportunity to learn as much as we want, not all of it good and not all of it accurate. The opposite holds true as well, there is some amazing and powerful information out there that was once … [Read more...]
How & Why You Must Train Your INNER Warrior
Even the nicest guy / gal has an inner Warrior spirit. And even if you live in a town as nice and safe as where The Brady Bunch lived, you must train the mind, body and spirit to not only handle tough times, but to THRIVE in those times. Tough times are coming. They are always right around the corner in some shape or form. Training in a manner that connects you to your Inner Warrior is not going to be your typical workout. There has to be a sense of discomfort. Furthermore, you must LOVE the … [Read more...]

Animal Warm Ups & Upper Body Training for Wrestling Strength (Bodyweight & Kettlebell Workout)
Anytime you think you're too busy to warm up, think again. Regardless of your age, it never pays to be "too busy" for a proper warm up. Give yourself 5 minutes to hit a warm up specific to your workout and mobilize 1 or 2 areas of your body that need attention. The "I'm too busy" excuse is never acceptable. Even for myself. When I say this BS excuse in my own mind or to others, I deserve a punch in the face. Whether or not you wrestle is also irrelevant. Although the Video below shows some of … [Read more...]
