I have a high school Football Player / Wrestler who broke his hand / wrist in 8th grade. Now, he’s a sophomore and strong as hell (naturally
.
After his hand and wrist were fixed via surgery, it wasn’t quite fixed. Ironic, right?
Benching and holding horizontal weights in the hands is tough, the wrist deviates big time & causes pain no matter how strong we work the hands, wrist, grip, etc. Neutral grip barbells and dumbbells feel somewhat better and stronger.
But, when it comes to snatching a 80 lb Kettlebell, flipping a 450 lb tire, farmer walking 185 lbs each hand, dragging sleds…..

I’m a 16 year old sophomore out of Dallas, TX, a varsity football player and wrestler. . I’ve been a proud Undergrounder since the summer after my freshman year, and i can’t begin to tell you what incredible results simple-ass, ground based barbell movements mixed with some light strongman work (sandbag stuff, mostly) made in my athletic career. The UTM taught me how to program my own strength and conditioning to my needs and not just follow a sheet of paper my coach gave me. I’m indebted to you for a long time.
But my question comes with convict conditioning. I bought the book a few months ago, threw a variation in there now and again every week or so, but the attention you’ve been giving it has opened me back up to the progressions and coach wade’s theories.
Also, any advice you have to send my way regarding combining these progressions with my underground stuff (my floor presses, front squats, KB swings, etc.) would be sick.
Thanks man. Keep killin’ it,

Below is a lil’ compilation of various Football / Gridiron Gladiator Workouts.
From myself to my bruddah Joey DeFranco and Duane Carlisle.
Duane Carlisle is the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for The San Francisco 49ers.
Years ago, Duane had several locations of his OWN in NJ, not too far from Edison. I would listen to countless audio interviews with Duane, especially his speed, agility and conditioning work as my expertise was in getting them Strong as Hell.
Duane has given an inside look as to how he trains Football players with regards to Strength, Speed / Agility & Conditioning. You can pick it up HERE. If you snag Duane’s Total Football Training, e mail me your receipt and I’ll send you The BEAST Strength Program).
Check these Videos of Gridiron Gladiators in Training, Jerzee Style.
Now that you’re blood is pumpin’ it’s time for you to rip through some heavy weights and run some hills!

Lots of people HATE CrossFit.
Of course, it’s f**ing HARD workouts. Period.
For my athletes I follow a system. A system of training is required to consistently get them stronger, more explosive, adding more muscle and improving their skill at the lifts as well. CrossFit is implemented into our conditioning work.
CrossFit in lifting / movement / training is similar in philosophy to why I always tell my athletes to Cross Train in other sports to make them MORE athletic in their sport of focus.
For example, I ALWAYS tell my Wrestlers and Football players to train in Judo for a few months out of the year.
I can explain WHY, but instead, I want you to see a high school wrestler who is also a Judoka. He is F**ing deadly. Watch Below…
I am BIG Time impressed with Derek Wojcik, a Judoka and wrestler from Georgia.
The Overseas athletes ALL crosstrained in various sports and various lifting / training methods. The Olympic Weightlifters from the 1970′s looked like a Hybrid of a Gymnast – Wrestler. Very lean, very muscular, extremely strong, extremely explosive and ALSO highly conditioned.
My Football players play a lot of Basketball as it improves their speed, power, agility and overall conditioning.
The athlete who never rotates new movements, methods or sports into his / her repertoire will be more likely to get overuse injuries or achieve physical / psychological burn out before the athlete who is more well rounded, exposed to more sports yet still focuses on 1 or 2 main sports.
Drop a comment, let me know your thoughts.

PS: The Underground Strength Kit forces you to cross train using a variety of methods, tools and training modalities. Our athletes don’t always squat or bench more than the competition, but when it comes time to compete, we are dominating.
PPS: If you’re an athletic coach, strength coach, parent or an athlete looking to be part of the best strength and sport training seminar then find a way to meet me HERE. Time is running out.

A question was sent my way and I pulled it out of the Mail Bag
It was an interesting question and I bet you can add your own answer(s).
Check out the video below and drop a comment when you’re done.
What’s cool to see, on an added note, is that in my area, the Head Football Coach is also the Assistant Wrestling Coach. He has the Football players wrestling as well.
Football, with all the hitting involved makes his guys meaner.
Wrestling, makes his guys more athletic, mentally tougher and more conditioned.
I’ve see BIG dudes get their asses whooped on the mat by a highly skilled wrestler who looks like a skinny nerd.
I’ve seen BIG, 220 + lb Football players move like shit and die on the Football field, and then Football players in the 185 – 195 lb range who are kicking ass all over the Football field.
We need a medium. Drop a line and be heard.

PS: I’d love to see Wrestlers and Football players training like THIS.
PPS: And, for those who are hungry to learn the trade and the business, they should be at 1 of my Live Events. Can’t get better if you’re not investing in your knowledge, make no mistake about it!

Travis began training at The Underground when it was just a garage gym.
The workouts were furious, in fact, I still miss those days, as do ALL the original Undergrounders.
Travis was 160 lbs, soaking wet and he looked like a little boy.
But he trained with us 2 – 3 days a week and ate exactly as we outlined for him.
He didn’t complain when he had to trap bar deadlift with only 185 lbs for months on end because his back could not handle any more weight.
Today, Travis deadlifts near 500 lbs, benches 340 and squats 405.
In 2 years, he piled on 60 lbs of muscle and walks around at a solid 220.
Imagine having 10 guys like Travis on a High School Football team!
Check out some footage of “T Woods” going through some training at The Undeground and drop a comment below. I always love to hear your thoughts, comments and questions.
You may not want to gain 60 lbs, but what about 10 lbs, or even 5 lbs?
I’ve met too many dudes struggling to get stronger and unable to pack on solid muscle.
It’s time for some Beast Training, no doubt about it.
Drop your comments below,
Peace!

Back in the day, I was training wrestlers from my garage and local playgrounds.
That soon evolved into Football players as well.
Check out one of my earliest videos training wrestlers….I DO miss those days, I won’t lie
All of the wrestlers in that video started with me never making it to the state tournament.
Before they graduated all of them placed in the states and one of them was a state finalist.
Today, some of them wrestle for Division 1 schools and others for D 3 schools. 1 of them is nationally ranked as a top 5 wrestler in the country!
Got comments / questions about those “early days”?
Post them below and I’ll answer!
Make it Happen!
Peace,

PS: Wanna learn my methods for building athletes who dominate the competition? On August 22nd I’ll be holding a special, 1 day Underground Strength Coach Certification. This day will be entirely focused on training. Attendees will have the option to stop by the gym Friday and train with my athletes and see how I run my biz.
PPS: The Lost Secrets of Strength DVD & Audio will be released in early August. 100 copies will be made and once they are gone they are gone. To get Joe DeFranco and I in the same room for training and biz coaching would cost over $ 2,000 – the action takers and go-getters who move FAST will be getting this ass kicking seminar for a small fraction of the cost. Stay tuned!

Dhani Jones used to train with my homeboy Joe DeFranco….in a storage closet and sometimes outdoors on a Football field, flipping 600 + lb tires and throwing around Kegs.
Today, Dhani Jones has his own TV show and “Tackles the Globe” while competing in the respective country’s sport, many of which are combat sports.
Check out some footage of Dhani below, and, notice how much of his preparation for each sport requires some unorthodox methods – combining these Underground methods with his athleticism and SERIOUS strength, he is kicking some ass around the globe….
Wrestling, Sambo, Muay Thai, Stone Training, Rugby – these are ALL brutal sports.
I have connected with many Rugby players from the UK and have also had the pleasure of meeting UK Strength Coaches as they attended my Underground Strength Coach Certification – I have NEVER met a weak person from the UK. Seems to me they ALL love serious, no-nonsense, Underground training.
The lesson to be learned from the above videos?
Be Strong and Be Athletic…
This means using bodyweight training methods, odd objects, participating in various sports and getting STRONGER on a regular basis.
Now Get Busy!
