I am fired up to bring you episode 125 of The STRONG Life Podcast with a long time friend, Mark "Smelly" Bell. In this episode, Smelly and I dig into what I like to call the intangibles of training, the things that you can not truly measure yet they are the things that inspire us and change our lives the most. Also, make sure you listen fully to this episode as Mark gives a discount code for you to use at http://HowMuchYaBench.net I've been regularly using the knee sleeves and the belt … [Read more...]
WHO Are YOU? The Man In The Arena vs The Spectator
I've been doing some soul searching lately and I will likely do less putting info "out there" such as videos, instagram, etc and more focusing on grounding on myself. My energy gets pulled when I frequently catch myself more dedicated to the very things that the person on the other end of the line needs to be dedicated to. Rather than continue down a road of disappointment and frustration, I will let things be the way they are. Not everyone wants it. Not everyone has the desire to be … [Read more...]
Do What You Can, Even When You Can’t
Whether you're a sport athlete or a hard charging lifter, injuries and obstacles will always be popping up on your journey. I am still trying to figure out WHY they happen. Is it all about movement? Because I see some horrific stuff that would destroy my body and those people don't get injured from it. Then I see people who move great and do all the right things: nutrition, lifestyle, etc and they DO get hurt. I think it's part of your journey. Maybe it's a test to see where you fit in this … [Read more...]
STRONG Life Ep. 100 w/ Jim Steel: Be A Simple Man
Pretty crazy, here we are with The STRONG Life Podcast Episode 100! Jim Steel and I crush part 2 of our conversation and although we talk training others and self, lifting "back in the day" and strength & conditioning today..... The essence of our conversation today revolved around being a "Simple Man". To say it's refreshing and inspiring to chat with Jim is an understatement. This episode is a breath of fresh air! Here are some of the topics we cover: … [Read more...]
RANT: How “Good Enough” & Mediocrity Is Ruining This Country!
WARNING: RANT TIME. I'm about to unleash some fury on all the things pissing me off. Sensitive people should go elsewhere. You can view these rants as a complaint or as truth. I feel like we're in a war against mediocrity and I have MANY stories to prove it. What brings me to ranting is a recent situation that happened and then ironically I came across an article I wrote in 2010, The Pussification of America. We're in a world where people are FRAUDS - they TALK about excellence but truly … [Read more...]
How & Why We MUST Build Tough, Successful People (Including YOU!)
It might seem like I harp on the same topics over and over and over again and there is a Reason for that. The reason is, I do NOT see or come across enough tough people, of ALL ages. I hear lots of complaining, excuses from parents, athletes, coaches, administrators.... I see and hear fear.... Fear of working others too hard, fear of backlash that others will complain if we work them too hard, fear of EXCELLENCE. THAT is the issue. We're afraid of being GREAT and afraid of hurting others' … [Read more...]
Why The World Would Be Different If I Never Wrestled
I wonder if the world would be different in my eyes if I never wrestled? My older brother told me "It's the most awesome sport!" I was in 8th grade at the time and he was a sophomore in high school. Of course, I wish my parents knew this to get us all involved in wrestling much earlier. My older brother started wrestling his sophomore year in high school and I began my freshman year. My younger brother began in 1st grade. Before I rant, I want to preface this and say that NOT all wrestlers … [Read more...]
How Strength & Conditioning Can Change Or Save Your LIFE
Guest Post by Shawn Charlebois, CUSC L1 Somebody much smarter than me once said “We Are What We Repeatedly Do”. I don’t know about you but I want to be strong. I did a lot of growing up in jail. My real education took place between the block walls of Central North Correctional Center. I did 8 years inside and during that time I got to do a few critical things: KNOW MYSELF KNOW WHAT I STAND FOR BE CONSISTENT WITH MY EFFORTS & CHARACTER These 3 key factors are the building … [Read more...]
Being A Simple Man VS A Great Man, Same Difference?
I came across a great post by Jim Wendler on Instagram and then I elaborated on how these words from actor, Tom Hardy hit home for me. Now, I don't know anything about Tom Hardy. But, these words inspired me and I love to write. Writing for me has always been something I love to do, even if no one is reading. It's a therapy of sorts so I just put this out there.... From Tom Hardy: … [Read more...]
The 7 BEST Exercises to OWN Your Training
Above, Photo of Navy SEAL, Jocko Willink's Garage Gym Aftermath. Here I am, the day after an emotional fundraiser for The Navy SEAL Foundation. After the fundraiser ended I was hit with a TON of emotion. Sharing the reason WHY I support Military so much and my memory of 9-11 and my gratitude for my families safety, it chokes me Up BIG time. I woke up and my mind is racing. Again. Perhaps it's age. Perhaps it is regret. Perhaps the only thing I can do about it is to keep on keeping on. The … [Read more...]
