Redemption Time.
I just got my ass kicked during the brutal Jersey Shore Challenge.
Pauly Reddick of course verbally abuses me and I used my bread and butter to redeem myself: The Pull Up.
The Peg Board, well, that’s another story.
I tried this when I first got to their gym and it was rough. AFTER the workout, somehow, someway, I got it a bit.
A little practice and I can kick that peg board’s add!
Check it:
Can you count the number of times Paul Reddick calls me son?
Whatcha think of those pull ups and that peg board.
The last few videos you guys have slacked on the comments.

When I started doing pull ups back in high school I could only do 2 or 3 in a row.
But, I read ALL of Arnold’s books and I remember him tlaking about goal setting, and one of those goal setting stories related to his pull up goals, in which he would do pull ups until he could no longer hold onto the bar.
Sounded like a GREAT idea, so I went to the gym freshman year in high school, I was 14 years old, asked my Dad to pick me up in 3 hours. I LOVED the gym and would stay ALL day if i could.
I did set after set of pull ups that day. Eventually 3 pull ups in a row became 2, and then 2 pull ups in a row became 1.
After 2 hours my hands were shot, my lats were fried and I couldn’t even pull myself up anymore.
For 3 or 4 days my lats were so freaking sore it hurt simply having my arms hanging at my sides. The soreness went into my arm pits and man was I aching, but man did I LOVE IT
Today, at 220 lbs I can easily crank out 20 + pull ups and very close to 30 pull ups.
Check out this video of me and 2 of my earliest clients cranking the playground pull ups…
If you can’t crank pull ups you better start practicing.
I do various forms of pull ups 5 days a week. It is this regular practice that allows me to crush the pull ups and jack up my back, shoulders, biceps, forearms and grip.
Thoughts or comments on the video? Post them below!
Let me know what other bodyweight videos you want to see and stay tuned for tomorrow because I seriously have my favorite video coming that I know you WILL love!

You’re about to watch video footage of a early 1970′s Polish Olympic Weighlifting Team – and these guys are World Champions, not just the average gym rat, yet note how much emphasis their Coach places on their ability to master their body to improve their Olympic Lifts.
Check this killa, short video out ….
1) PULL Ups RULE! I ALWAYS placed emphasis on pull ups – and I used every single variation I could possibly think of. Pull ups jack up your back, biceps, shoulders and forearms.
Having a strong back improves your bench, improves your 40 yd dash time PLUS, a rugged, thickly muscled back looks downright awesome, don’t you agree?

Nowadays, I encounter varsity athletes, bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts, countless of which can not perform 5 strict pull ups.
This is pathetic.
A program of strength and muscle building requires a foundaton to be built, and pull ups, push ups and squats with bodyweight are a MUST have.
When I would travel to Israel there were no gyms in the area until I was 18.
Before then, my workouts consisted of an every other day pull up regime, 15 – 20 sets total.
I walked to the local playground and began with 10 sets of overhand chins, the last 10 sets had various grips and hand placements.
I still eat pull ups for breakfast, and at 220 lbs bodyweight I can easily do 20 + reps.
2) Mr. Gonzales Kicked My Ass AND he Can Kick Your Ass To! Back in undergrad it was required for Physical Education students to take a full semester of Gymnastics, 2 x week. Our instructor, Mr. Gonzales was a bad MoFo.

Check out this highlight of what happens when I am short on time and a bunch of Strong BEASTS roll up to The Underground Strength Gym…
Note the use of the HEAVY dumbbells, 130 – 150 lbs, ripping them off the ground for full body strength and power.
Lots and lots of weighted pull ups with mixed grips to hit the upper body from ALL angles!
People think short workouts don’t do much, I always change their mind once they train WITH me.
I say the same to the Coaches who go through my USC Certification…..
I tell them to always Live the Code, represent what we do and NEVER fall out of shape…. it can be done with fast workouts if that’s all you got. And trust me, we ALL get one of those times in life when we are crammed for time, NOT to worry.
If someone tries my short workouts and say they didn’t feel it, I know they trained like a pussy. #TRUTH
If you are busy as all hell and wanna stay strong, lean and mean, then step right up for the challenge
Train Hard or Not At All

PS: Those were competitive strongmen going through the workout and they got blasted from it! We ALL got blasted because we went after it, full throttle.

I had just finished a phone call with Joe DeFranco and he was telling me how Mike “the Asshole” Guadango was regularly doing heavy, HEAVY 1 rep sets for pull ups and recline rows with over 100 lbs at times.
These HEAVY sets helped him kill which is why “The Asshole” rocked a 50 rep set of pull ups!
Plus, last time I checked, the only way you can get stronger is by putting more weight on the “bar”.
Jack it up!

More pull up variations as I prep the pull ups.
Gotta get em’ higher, and I gotta get STRONGER, no 2 ways about it.
Some strong mofo’s out there!
Check the vid and let me know how your pull ups are going and what you’re doing to get your pull up numbers higher than ever before!
More training footage to come soon enough!
Kill it!

PS: I will be announcing a telelseminar for this Tuesday, 9 PM EST. It will be all about the time crunched REAL Man Muscle workouts.
PPS: I don’t care how heavy you are, pull ups MUST be eaten for breakfast. Too many people can not perform pull ups at all, and I hope this contest motivates people to break their own personal barriers and records.
PPPS: I am amazed at how many whiners wrote in about the pull ups from DeFranco’s. Is no one impressed with these high rep weighted pull ups or do great things need to be shot down by others due to jealousy. Let’s keep it positive here, and the bottom line, those two videos freaking rocked, period!
PPPPS: Train hard, train heavy and go rock the pull ups. if not, then Shut Up

Today I had a skinny guy stop into the gym….after he left the gym next door.
The other day, another skinny guy who confessed to being a former inmate stopped by as well.
I’m starting to worry who the heck will be stopping by next.
The former inmate confessed he was way bigger in “the pen”. I bet he was….eating all day, push ups and sit ups every day, hitting the weight pile almost daily. What can you do in the weight pile?
Nothing fancy…..I saw what the prisons have: benches, barbells, dumbbells, dip bars, pull up bars, squat racks. These are the essentials.
Today’s drop in was a guy I have seen for YEARS as I used to train at the gym next door. He has not changed in about 7 years while training 4 days a week. He was pissed off that he still weighs 135 lbs.
I bet if I looked at how he ate it would be pretty poor, with not enough quality food, skipping breakfast, no post workout meals and enough food to keep a 5 year old kid satisfied.
Training mistakes? He said he squats and deadlifts – are these magic exercises? Hmmmmm, they’re supposed to work like magic, but, if your entire program is not organized well, squats, deadlifts and all the other top notch exercises won’t do jack sh*t for you.
So, here we have two guys in frustration….both skinny and unable to get bigger, stronger or more muscular.
One guy has been struggling for what I know to be 7 years…..at least.
Soon I’ll post photos of a once 88 lb. weakling who began training with us 2 years ago, and now weighs 125 lbs. 125 may seem like nothing to you, but, that is a whopping 37 lbs of added weight, much of it muscle.
Stay tuned!

I have been adding a boat load of videos to The Underground.
I’m getting crazeeeeeee with these videos, let me tell ya, I can’t even keep count of how many I have been adding lately
It’s finally a way for you to see how we do things at The Underground – raw and uncut.
Our latest video is a circuit that we put many of our combat athletes through, but, it’s perfect for anyone who wants to develop some sick work capacity. You’ll see David Ellis going through the paces as he preps for the Judo Nationals, which he just placed 3rd at.
David is quite the beast – he competes in the 200 lb category yet he only weighs 185. Strength and power endurance are critical factors for so many athletes and I personally use these circuits myself.
Why do I use them? I need to get in and out of the gym with my hectic schedule….so when the wife is callin’ me for dinner, it’s time to get BUSY!
If you’re not yet a member of The Underground, just remember, it’s a small investment that equals 3 cups of coffee a month. Plus, all members get special discounts that non members are not privvy to enjoying
If you have any questions for me regarding training, ask away at the forum.
I hope to see you at The Underground soon enough!
In Strength,
Zach Even – Esh
P.S. – Many people e mail me about my own personal training, and yes, you’ll see my crazy ways on video as well. I do admit, I can get a bit hyped up and I fear I’ll blow the speakers off my little Sony Camera! ha ha

I am so pumped for the soon to be released new product I am tightening up.
It is packed with so much info and tons of killer bonuses…Oh man, I am so psyched can feel the earth shaking!
This new product will really give you an inside look at how I train with my insane schedule.
Speaking of training, I am setting up some backyard tools because there are times on the weekend when I really need to train just to clear my head.
I have a 70 lb Kettlebell, a climbing rope and next on my list will be a long chain, a long tow strap and some PVC piping to rig up a suspended pull up bar from a thick branch in the backyard.
