Back in the day, in fact, even today, when people train for long distance running or running of any sort, their training involves running, more running and of course, some more running.
I even get countless horror stories from my track & field throwing & sprinting athletes telling me how they run 2 miles as a “warm up”.
To become the best you need to learn from the best. That’s exactly what’s about to go down on June 4th & 5th at The Underground Strength Gym.
Training for running is getting a bitch slap right now thanks to B Mack, the Mad Scientist behind CrossFit Endurance. I’ve even got a few friends following the CrossFit Endurance model and they are straight up animals when it comes to training because of what B Mack has them doing during their workouts.
Yes, my buddies run, but they run like cheetahs instead of elephants. I get smashed by these guys when we go mountain biking and their brutal workouts f**k me up BIG time. When they lift, they go HEAVY…. I’m talking guys who are deadlifting 2 x their bodyweight during workouts mixed in with kettlebells, sandbags and sprints.
This is the shit that BEASTS are made of, I’ve seen the results firsthand.
Things changed in the endurance running world when some dude by the name of Brian MacKenzie took the endurance world by the balls as a 6’1″ 190 lb BEAST. B Mack began prepping distance runners (including himself) with various methods of high intensity training methods.
It’s not too often we see a guy running 26, 50 and even 100 mile races who looks like B Mac, and they sure as heck don’t train this way.
If you’ve read Tim Ferriss’s latest book, The 4 Hour Body, you’ve seen B Mack’s chapters devoted to getting you prepped for a marathon and longer using short, intense workouts.
Remember, it’s called Strength AND Conditioning. I see lots of strong guys who can’t run and vice versa. I’m ALL about adding the deadliest training weapons to my arsenal. CrossFit Endurance is going to be one of those weapons.
I’m psyched for June 4th & 5th. Remember, my gym is small, space will be limited. B Mack is coming to The Dirty Jerzee to unleash hell, if you ain’t there then you just ain’t serious. I’m not a fan of anyone who isn’t passionate and die hard about training.

Martin Rooney and I talk about what life is like as a Strength Coach and give you a preview of what’s about to go down with “The Human Crane”.
Check the video and pay attention….
When I saw Martin box squat 405 for the easy reps it made me re-think and realize the carry over his training has towards his absolute strength.
I’ve seen Martin Bench Press 315 for a solid 6 reps and he weighs around 200 lbs, lean and mean.
The regular practice of sprints and bodyweight training have had a tremendous carry over to his strength, and these are NOT just my observations only. Martin told me that from doing all his push up variations and other challenging bodyweight movements so often they have a tremendous carry over to his powerlifting.
I have experienced the same effect so NEVER neglect the importance of attacking and mastering the challenging bodyweight exercises.
Lead from the FRONT or get the Hell out of the Way!

Many people equate circuit training with light weights, conditioning or fat loss.
Not so. my bruddahs. I use circuits frequently AND with heavy weights with my own workouts, and they DO pack on muscle and strength. BUT, you gotta prepare for the pain, because this style of training can get brutal as each set continues…..
The fast pace does boost conditioning as well, which I love, but, take a look at how I crank a circuit below with HEAVY weights.
I wanna hear your thoughts on circuit training with HEAVY weights when you’re done watching.
Notice I didn’t mess around with light, sissy type weights. I ain’t got time for training if it isn’t gonna produce results for me.
I was performing the military press with 150 lbs.
Deadlifting with 365 lbs.
Still…..NOT heavy enough, plenty of room to improve.
Sprinting….well, that’s NO joke when you haul ass, it’s an amazing way to improve conditioning, add leg muscle and improve lower body speed and power.
As the years pass on I see less and less information available on training like a REAL Man. I cringe as more and more magazines hit the book shelves showing useless training with people standing or sitting on balance discs and stability balls.
The departure from heavy, kick ass lifting has sent many men into a testosterone devoid body and a weaker mind. The mind and body are meant to be challenged, and, a stronger mind and body make YOU a much more effective, successful person both in AND out of the weight room.
Question for You: What style of training do you use to push your mind and body to the next level? How are you constantly challenging yourself to “Man the F**K UP”?

I have spoken many times before about getting people to respect “strength training”.
It does piss me off, to see people whining about not being to get stronger, faster or bigger. I see these same people doing 1 arm dumbbell preacher curls staring at their biceps just like what you would see in FLEX magazine.
I used to read FLEX magazine cover to cover, day and night. I had a book shelf that was at the verge of collapsing because all my muscle mags were weighing it down, bending each shelf to the point of destruction.
It’s easy to get caught up in that stuff, because the photos look so enticing and if you copy exactly what you see you too will get jacked!
Not so, my friend….
If you need a wake up call, take a walk into the woods…sprint through the trails, jump over the logs, carry the logs, squat and lunge with the logs.

Oh man, the weather is amazing today.
75 and sunny, no humidity, just the way I like it.
That means outdoor training for me, and if you’re
smart, you’ll do the same.
I used to take a kettlebell, sled and a sandbag with me
to the park, but lately, I just show up and do nothing
but calistehnics and various sprints and jumping movements.
Nothing is written in stone when I do these workouts, and
following a rigid routine is not for me because of
my work schedule.
I have found some amazing playgrounds behind schools that are never used. They playgrounds remind of the turner halls from the early 1900′s, where people climbed, jumped, pulled, pushed, threw med balls, used kettlebells and performed gymnastics.
