Soul lifting. Here we go, 2nd workout of the day. First workout involved dumbbell quick lifts, bodyweight training and plenty of soft tissue work and mobility. Sweatin' was easy since it was almost 100 degrees. Want a second workout but the experts cry a river and say, "NOOOOO!!!! Rest!!" I do what I feel and I feel what I do. My advice to you... Know Thy Self. Live for the iron and Live to train. Harley Davidson would dig us, NO doubt. I've been using LOTS of ladders lately with … [Read more...]
The Power Of Calisthenics & Convict Conditioning Inspiration
Above, Kyle and Cory Markovitch who train at The Underground Strength Gym hit the 1,000 Pul Up Club before Wrestling Season ended. GREAT kids with GREAT work ethic! BOTH were state qualifiers during their time as NJ High School Wrestlers for Cranford High School. __________ The power behind bodyweight training is tremendous. Not enough athletes and coaches give bodyweight training enough respect. It hit me the hardest as to WHY it's so important when I had a Football Player unable to do … [Read more...]
What to Do When Powerlifting Sucks?
This scenario might anger many, but, it may also be a stone throw away from happening to you. Check out this e mail I received and see my thoughts below: Zach, Just wanted to send you an email to let you know how much I appreciate how many bodyweight resources you are giving us. We've spoken via email before, but to reiterate, I played 4 years of college football at a small D3 school in Chicago. During my time there I developed chronic neck injuries that left me with Thoracic Outlet … [Read more...]

Above, Jesse, before The Underground and 2 months after. Below, a compilation of Jesse's progress through the months at The Underground Strength Gym. Tales of an unlikely BEAST..... Dude shows up at The Underground looking to prepare for his future.... classified shiz, NO joke. Former collegiate fencer, pissed off at his physical abilities, motivated like hell to become a BEAST. Underground Strength QnA: Tire Flips & Training With Injuries
Got some cool questions that I wanna crank out via the Blog. Check em' below as these questions come in often. Enjoy! Q: Hi Zach! My Name is Mark and I live on Cape Cod. If you have a minute I wanted to ask you about tire flipping. 4 of us from my affiliate competed in a Crossfit Competition today and there was a 1000 pound tire-at least that's what they told us it weighed. Any way no one from my team has flipped the tire before and we couldn't even get the thing off the ground. … [Read more...]
The Underground Kettlebell Assault
What can I say, I LOVE Kettlebell training. I've loved them since the day I started ripping into them in my bare bones garage when I first started the creation of The Underground Strength Gym. Every Kettlebell workout kicked my ass and pushed me unlike any other training tool I ever used. I love the fact that you can use Kettlebells in countless ways: throw them, press, row, squat, push and pull. Use one or two kettlebells, take them with you for a workout at the park, your backyard, … [Read more...]
Full Body Strength Workout, Part I – Sandbags, Anvil, Thick Grip / Globe Dumbbell Training
I cranked the tunes. It was one of those days where I needed to break the "rules of strength & conditioning". I had to get away from the science and everything being so perfectly organized. Why? Because in competition and life, when do things go so perfectly as planned? It is very, very rare. I Warmed up.... calisthenics of all types - recline row on the ropes, bear crawls, pull ups, t push ups, leg raises while upright on the dip bar, v ups holding a 10 lb med ball..... Then it … [Read more...]

A Workout for TRUE Warriors
Hope yesterday was awesome for you, whether you enjoyed Thanksgiving or not :) I'm inspired to tear up the Underground today, and after lots of great food yesterday, my energy levels are soaring! This workout was inspired by Dan Cenidoza, a BEAST from Maryland, who was inspired by Dan John for this particular workout. It's basic, but NOT for the faint of heart. The more I write and the more videos I put out, and the longer my Underground Strength Gym evolves, I keep learning... This is not … [Read more...]
