Dan Gable, Dedication & The Habit of Winning

share

Very interesting video below, and although it speaks of wrestling, you and I BOTH KNOW that what Dan Gable speaks of is applicable to anything in your life.

Watch this Video...

It's quite amazing, that Dan Gable was about to finish his collegiate career undefeated and lost in his final match to Larry Owings, who was only a sophomore at the time and Gable was a Senior.

Owings was determined to beat Gable, it was imprinted in his mind and he dropped 2 weight classes to meet Gable!

Ironically, Owings never won another National Title, taking 2nd place his final 2 years in college.

It seems that beating Gable was MORE important then the national title, hence his runner up placing the next 2 years.

That loss is what MADE Gable into who and what he became from there after.

Not one point was scored on Gable during the Olympic games, he refused to give up 1 point!

Do you see the power of the mind, focusing like a demon and dedicating yourself to winning?

The same can be applied to your life and any goals you may have. Yet all too often I hear excuse after excuse as to why things can NOT be achieved.

The mind must be trained, just as you train the body.

The Russians called Dan Gable "The Machine".

Are you a Machine?

How can you become a machine.

What will it take to achieve your goals, both physically and your life goals?

Drop a comment and share your thoughts, questions, success stories and stumbling blocks.

Let's ALL come together and share how to kick ass!

    That vid gives me goosebumps!

It reminds me of a time where I was in that mode of focus during my athletic career.

Often times throughout life we run into big events that change our lives forever.

It is in that moment that will determine what kind of person you are.

Most decide to let it negatively affect their lives, but a select few use it to become something better.

This is why this site and the people are so powerful.

Everyone seems to want to win!

Thanks for the vid and let’s keep moving forward.

More goals achieved more success and happiness!

Dan Gable has been a fan of mine since the early 1990’s, when I went to his camp in Iowa. I spent two weeks at his camp and came back to my wrestling team as a true animal. Albeit I ended up quitting the team for personal reasons, I tapped into a new mental toughness and new approach for training. Terry and Tom Brands were a few others who helped me understand mental toughness. Where the mind goes, the body will follow! People train with me because they know i WILL push them beyond their comfort zones…and when I train myself, I pretend Gable is in the corner of the room watching me.

  3. I love this video. It speaks mountains not just about sports and being a dedicated athlete but in LIFE as well.

NO ONE in this world will ever be “good enough”

We can all get better each and everyday!

    Take it to the grave.

  4. CONSIDERING HOW MUCH THE RUSSIANS,LOVE BEATING THE AMERICANS,IN WRESTLING,,AND THIS IS A FACT IN THE WRESTLING COMMUNITY,FOR THE RUSSIANS TO CALL DAN CABLE “THE MACHINE” IS PRETTY MUCH ENOUGH SAID,HOW MUCH OF A FANTASTIC COMPETITOR,AND PERSON,DAN GABLE REALLY IS..

  5. For those who don’t know who Dan Gable is this video pretty much tells you everything. He is probably the biggest name in collegiate and olympic wrestling history and was the ultimate competitor. “The Machine” was never content and was always striving to become better……..something all of us can and should do.

  6. I attended four Iowa wrestling camps while Mr. Gable was there. As a wrestler, you grew up in awe of his work ethic and tenacity. There have been many great competitors, however, he still ranks at the top of my list.

  7. Great video!!!! Mr. Gables story should be shown and be mandatory for all kids going into high school sports and for alot of adults also.
Humble but an animal!!!! Great video Zach!! Thanks Bro!!
Never take counsel from your fears!!!!

  8. LOVE THIS VIDEO. SEEN IT A MILLION TIMES. DAN WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I GOT INTO STRENGTH TRAINING.
“You can never wrestle enough because you can always get better. You can never lift enough because you can always get stronger” – Dan Gable

  9. I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to meet Dan. He was probably the hardest working man period in his training. And I’ve learn some insightful things from him like working as hard at recovery as you do in training. Thanks for sharing the video Zach!
