The mind is the key.
Let me explain.
I began training in 1989......
Experiences from my own training and in training 1,000 + athletes, I have seen some crazy SHYT happen.
How can a lazy athlete who lives a poor lifestyle accomplish sports accolades that the hardest, "perfectly" trained athletes can't come near achieving?
The Answer: Mindset / Attitude
Going back 1995, I was preparing for a bodybuilding show and training with others who were "chemically enhanced". I let it get to my head a bit and recall complaining about how I was feeling beat up and run down.
But, not long after my complaints, the proximity of the bodybuilding show inspired me in a way that completely changed the way I felt both physically and psychologically.
I explain that change and what it did for me and how it can affect you, either positively or negatively.
Watch the video....
We're in a world where hard work is viewed as punishment, where the truth about your excuses is flipped and blamed on others who are trying to make you better.
Here's a credo shared with me by a Wrestling Coach.
This is The Lombardi Credo.
". . . Leaders are made, they are not born; and they are made just like anything else has been made in this country - by hard effort. And that's the price we all have to pay to achieve that goal or any goal.
". . . And despite of what we say about being born equal, none of us really are born equal, but rather unequal. And yet the talented are no more responsible for their birthright than the underprivileged. And the measure of each should be what each does in a specific situation.
" . . . It is becoming increasingly difficult to be tolerant of a society who has sympathy only for the misfits, only for the maladjusted, only for the criminal, only for the loser. Have sympathy for them, help them, but I think it is also time for all of us to stand up for and to cheer for the doer, the achiever, one who recognizes a problem and does something about it, one who looks at something extra to do for his country, the winner, the leader!"
My advice to you:
Change your attitude. Start LOVING the work. I still recall how "crazy" I became in training once I changed my mind. Nothing else changed except my mind. Changing my mind changed my life.
TRUE Strength starts in your Mind!

Zach, great advice, especially the paragraph about “difficult to be tolerant of a society”. If ever there were a time to stand up, get your a** in gear it is now! Time to look inside, decide what really matters then smash it………period.
Yep! Exactly, Gary! We’re so worried and sensitive to the complainers and cry babies that those who promote being strong and tough are punished or labeled as mean.
The world is a crazy place.
The strongest will THRIVE!
Great post, thanks Z! Like the basics, the mental side (nutrition, recovery/sleep, attitude) isn’t sexy either…Keep crushing it.
That’s right, Pritch. Success is often times NEVER pretty!
