STRONG Life Podcast ep. 206!

I came across a quote from my friend and mentor, Alwyn Cosgrove.

A Socrates quote......

“Intelligent individuals learn from every thing and every one; average people, from their experiences. The stupid already have all the answers.”

As a Strength Coach and as a Strength Athlete, you need to open your mind and learn from ALL experiences and ALL people. While listening to Pete Bommarito speak recently, he was naming countless mentors he had learned from through the years. COUNTLESS.

He credited ALL of them for his knowledge. It was evident how he was, still is, and always will be chasing greatness. I could immediately relate as I have a monster list of people I have and continue to learn from. Every time I listen to a podcast, watch a video, read a book (or even a page from a book) I am thinking about ACTION.

I am thinking about putting my new knowledge to the test. Application over theory. Application and Action over reading and consuming yet doing NOTHING.

I am NOT just learning from other coaches, I am learning from anyone and everyone, including experiences, both good and bad experiences. Learning from anyone who is achieving above and beyond the norms.

As a Strength Coach, You will consistently gain more knowledge while destroying your old self. Every day, you are chasing Greatness & self improvement.

Every day, you are trying to better your application of skills and knowledge. If you're not getting better, then you're getting worse.

If not, then you are settling for mediocrity.

Good Enough is the Death of Greatness.

I was thinking today compared to 5, 10 and 15 years ago as a Strength Coach.

Years ago, it was actually easier to train athletes. Today, athletes are showing weaker and more imbalanced than ever before. No fancy terminology needed here, they are all around WEAK.

I have seen COUNTLESS athletes unable to get under a straight bar for squats. It destroys them physically and emotionally. Lack of movement ability. Lack of strength. Lack of mental grit. I think back to how we need specialty bars for TOO many athletes because of their poor mobility and strength.

How do you fix this this? Assessments? Program design? Culture? Changing lives?
