I met Steve in 1984, he was a dependable neighbor, and fellow weightlifter even though I wasn’t in his class I would still go down to the Venice Beach “cage”, and see him also at World gym. In our neighborhood every morning he would take a walk with Joe Gold after his 4:00 a.m. workout at World, I got to join him for a few of those early morning workouts but I did not keep up the pace.
I moved in across the street from Steve and Joe Gold in 86 after building a house. Never was into the weight lifting world so I knew him, Nancy, and Joe only as neighbors. It was a pleasant little cup de sac of maybe four homes and we all lived through the same mess generated by a LA. Steve was always asking me cal my contacts and get the bums out of our park, etc. He rented out two apartments that provided me with short term girlfriends. All in all just a great member of a tight little neighborhood. Here’s a story, Harding needs help lifting a beam in place on a remodel, called Steve for help, Steve sent Nancy, who was plenty strong in her own right. All the neighbors were dying off so I sold in 2019 and left town. Great memories!
I LOVE these stories, thank you for sharing. Also, heart breaking to hear of the legends passing on. I believe they all go to the IRON HEAVENS and it’s like Zuver’s Gym up there! Thank you so much for sharing!! It means a lot to me 🙂
