Lifting heavy is far, far more than a means to an end of getting you stronger for bigger muscles or to achieve more success in life. The guys I met 10-12 years ago told me I wouldn't be able to keep this up.
In this video, I explain why lifting heavy, raising the bar and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is what will help you not only succeed in life, but you can rise to the top and truly kick ass if you so choose.
I also have a message for the naysayers....

Always keeps it real.
You learn A Lot about yourself when you are arse to heels with big weight on your back/front/overhead. A Lot! Quit isn’t an option at that point. There is no easy way out! You have to dig deep and drive!
I have a Mission to make athletes/children stronger and more self confident. I am going straight to the kids. Boys/Girls Clubs, Park/Rec departments, PE teachers middle school and high school. Every place there is a child I will contact everyone top to bottom multiple times because I believe to solve Bullying, School Shootings and every other problem our youth are facing they have to be “Under the Bar”. Which is a great book by Dave Tate.
Strength Coaches have to give a little to get nothing! Yeah Nothing! But you will be paid in the smiles, laughs, knuckle pumps and high fives of a child. Nothing better! And if they decide to continue with you Great! But you have them started right!
Zach time for this 37yo to go do what he was told he wouldn’t ever be able to do. Or I would be crippled for doing it. TRAIN F-N HEAVY! Steel is my depression medication.
Soul Lifters who love the heavy stuff. It’s our passion and saves us! NO 2 ways about it!
“The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds. ”
-Henry Rollins
I love it, Henry Rollins would NOT be the man he is without coming across the teacher who punched him in the chest and taught him how to lift!
It teaches me the constant lesson of how to set a goal that is currently beyond my reach and how to put the work into achieving it. It is a constant lesson in how to deal with the failure, overcome it, and turn it into success. It is a constant lesson in humility and gratitude for my coaches and training partners for teaching me and pushing me to be better and achieve more.
Heavy lifting turned me into the man I am today. Driven. Dedicated. Passionate. It turned my life around from the day I started losing over 100lbs to the day I was bending steel bars with ease. Deadlifting 600+ pounds is no easy task, a simple movement, but no easy task. Heavy lifting teaches us to lift with a purpose, a goal. That mentality carries over to Life!
In life I am constantly setting goals, constantly trying to better myself, constantly trying my absolute best to provide for my family, constantly presenting a strong , positive image for many folks, and I can thank God, my family, my wife, and heavy lifting for turning me into the man I am today. Undergrounders—we all are united because we understandddd the value of what heavy lifting truly brings to the table. Not just massive muscle or mind-boggling strength—but the fighting spirit, the driven mentality.
Zach, I’m following you for about 4-5 years now. And you really got my back. Thanks for your support and fire you ignite. Peace bro.
