Back when I was coaching wrestling this wrestling documentary was featured. The year was 2003 I believe. I recorded this with a VHS tape, ha ha. At the time my girlfriend asked me to go out and I remember telling her I was busy!
It was 2 weekends in a row and I was counting down the days and hours until I could watch part 2 on ESPN that weekend.
The lessons learned and insight from this documentary STILL inspires me well over a decade later. Whether you wrestle or not doesn't matter, you will learn a lot about fighting for what you want.
I see TOO many people quitting in life nowadays.
Athletes, Adults.... LOTS of quitting. LOTS of trying to find the place where the grass is greener on the other side if they quit. The way to greener pastures is to break THROUGH VS break down. STRONGER is better.
We all eventually learn, to be successful, no matter where you are, you must ALWAYS bust your ass and do the work. You get what you earn.
Get some coffee and enjoy.....
The Season: Iowa Wrestling
The lessons I've learned from wrestling, training, running multiple businesses, overcoming injuries, being a family man..... They ALL go back to much of what I learned in the wrestling room of Edison High School.
In large part, I shared these Videos because I get fired up when I see so much quitting. I WISH I didn't give a shyt about people quitting. Honestly, I wish I didn't care. But, some things inside of you are just never going to change.
NOT caring would make life much easier. But I guess this is the human food chain. If everyone was a champion and had kick ass work ethic and mindset, how would things work? There aren't gold medals for everyone.
I will always care. I will always want to see athletes turn into ass kickers. In turn, I need to get used to being let down because I often times tend to care more about the success of the athletes then they care themselves.
A great lesson I try to remind myself of is to simply have zero expectations. Give all I can and leave it like that, everything else is out of my control.
That is the unique thing about wrestling. Often times the lessons learned from wrestling come when you are no longer a competitor on the mat, but a competitor in life.
I am grateful to have wrestled in high school. I don't think you would see any of what you see from me if it wasn't for wrestling.
The fire in my eyes comes through wrestling.
THAT is the difference between being A Wrestler vs being on the Wrestling Team. Once A wrestlers, Always a Wrestler.

I absolutely love this documentary !!!! Awesome awesome stuff
Matt I used to watch this on VHS! It was out when I was a middle school wrestling coach!
I am amazed at how quickly Iowa wrestling plummetted under Zalesky. The agressiveness was gone. It has taken Brands 10 years to return Iowa to respectable.
