It's heartbreaking to see it.
I drive through town slowly and people are crossing the street without even looking up.
I think to myself, what is the conversation in their head right now?
I will die crossing this street as long as I can see what's on Instagram!
This addictive behavior is doing nothing beneficial for you.
You wake up, check your phone.
Out to eat with friends and family, check your phone.
Doing a set of leg presses at the gym, phone rings, answer the phone and talk during leg presses (Yes, I saw this).
Foam rolling during your PT session? You MUST be on the phone. MUST (Yes, I saw this, too).
Your phone OWNS you.
Well, actually, maybe it doesn't. That is up to you.

This is about discipline and NOT allowing yourself to be a slave to ANYTHING addictive. Phones, Junk Food, Being Messy, Sleeping In, WASTING time on social media, etc.
I suggest getting outside to train. Hit some sprints. Get to a playground and attack those pull ups, dips and push ups. Fresh Air. Leave the phone in your car. Attack these 3 Bodyweight exercises.
The "normal" of today is to see 9 out of 10 people in the gym with your heads down, staring into their phones. If it's not the phone, they have a TV with the news blasting.
Listen, the gym is a time to DESTROY your distractions and go deep into your training aka Iron Therapy. How can you focus on training if you're focused on what everyone else is doing?
The answer: You can't focus! You will NOT get Strong lifting or living in this manner. Your phone is making you WEAK. And, you allow it. You feed into it. You're a slave to your phone. Your phone OWNS you.
How does that make you feel? I once heard a Fitness Coach tell me was spending 8 hours a day on Facebook. Holy! Talk about a WASTE OF LIFE.
There is NO power in endlessly consuming other people's photos and videos. Watch something, Learn something and then, DO THE WORK. Apply the lesson or motivation you got from the media. Do NOT just aimlessly consume.
In "their world" it might seem acceptable to answer phones during the leg press or to check your phone between every set. But I suggest you remove yourself from that world.
Create your OWN world. Garage Gyms, Basement Gyms, Backyard Gym. Get away from the environment where everyone is merely existing, NOT truly living.
The choice is yours.
Be a slave to the technology or OWN your life.

Zach, you nailed it!
I have this sign on the Cave wall “No cell phones during training” and it is enforced.
The phones are as bad or worse than TV.
Keep speaking strong truth, my friend.
Frank, the busier people are looking at what others do, the less creative they become, the less productive they become as well!
Here’s a Warrior Man Reminder:
You must be reading my mind, Zach!
The BS I see in most gyms today just makes me want to run away and train alone in a basement like in my early years.
Nobody watching, no constant need to share everything, just me against the iron.
In the past couple of months, I’ve been training bodyweight style at the local playground, lifting kettlebells in the garden and hiking in the mountains.
Being away from the gym and the zombies wandering in it and training more in nature has been totally refreshing.
Thanks for your work. I’ve been following you for years and I always loved your spartan mentality.
Greetings from France!
Julien – thank you, my brother!
It is a sad to see such lack of fire in people!
I hope people learn to discipline themselves against the phone which is making them a slave to the phone 🙁
Keep attacking life, my brother!
