Stone Training Q & A

Here's a question I received regarding Stone Training....

Zach, I'm a football coach at Lompoc High School and have been using some of
your techniques for the past year and it's incretible. I have one question
though how do i get a round stone that i've heard you talk about. I have
been able to get tires, we have made sand bags from your article, bet i
haven't found a round stone. Could you please help.

Thanks Robin

ANSWER:

Robin,

The round stone I have is called an Atlas stone, you will see these on ESPN during World's Strongest Man contest. Lucky for me, this 260 lb Atlas Stone was a gift for my birthday. These can be made on your own with a stone mold, and I reccomend you check out http://TotalPerformanceSports.com - lots of strongman equipment for you to look into, and of course, check out E Bay!

You do NOT need an atlas stone. I was using stones in my backyard as well as from my parents back yard when I first began. I would also find large stones at the nearby playgrounds and parks. Stones are GREAT fun to train with and are VERY effective. Take yourself a drive to the local park (don't mention my name to the cops please 🙂 and see what you can find.

Prepare to have some GREAT times in training and yes, you will get VERY strong using these stones. With young athletes, please take into account the safety factor during all exercises! This is not something for a beginner to jump into my friend.

Thanks again for your question and great feedback!

In strength,

Zach

This is one of my favourite instinctive types of training- there are a couple of beaches near me with rocks of various shapes and sizes,I’ll run along – jump from large boulder to boulder, pick up a rock – carry it or throw it various ways then pick it up etc or do cleans, twists, lunges, walking overhead press etc.A great workout and there are a few thin trees to shimmy up on the way down there too.
