Strength Coaches Inner Realm: Calm Before the Storm

share

Martin Rooney and I talk about what life is like as a Strength Coach and give you a preview of what's about to go down with "The Human Crane".

Check the video and pay attention....

When I saw Martin box squat 405 for the easy reps it made me re-think and realize the carry over his training has towards his absolute strength.

I've seen Martin Bench Press 315 for a solid 6 reps and he weighs around 200 lbs, lean and mean.

The regular practice of sprints and bodyweight training have had a tremendous carry over to his strength, and these are NOT just my observations only. Martin told me that from doing all his push up variations and other challenging bodyweight movements so often they have a tremendous carry over to his powerlifting.

I have experienced the same effect so NEVER neglect the importance of attacking and mastering the challenging bodyweight exercises.

  1. Zach,
I love it when people think that because I am a strength coach and in the weight room ALL day that I workout ALL day. In reality, it is sometimes hard to fit my own personal workout in; especially at the college level because schedules will change all the time. Great post!

  2. Zach,

Great post! Never tried doing squats before deadlifts, I have usually done the reverse but now I am psyched to try the opposite. If I am not mistaken isn’t this a complex or couplet the Lou Simmons uses from West Side Barbell?

Great footage, love the solid 8 reps at 405#! Keep up the hustle Martin! Quick question, will we get to see the Human Crane in action on the next posting?

  3. Hi zach, I still am not clear about what exactly training for warriors encompasses. Could you give me a low-down on its content, like what is inside the books, if there are workouts or fighting techniques included and who this book is for?

I’m looking for something that conditions and is intense. Thanks in advance in helping me to understand this potential purchase better

TFW is a guidebook that shows several examples of warm ups, mobility drills, weightlifting and bodyweight movements for all regions of the body, info on nutrition, recovery, and even walks you thru a multi week sample training template geared towards preparing you for battle, or just getting you in the best shape of your life. Get the damn book, you won’t be disappointed.

thnx 4 clarifying, ha ha, the book description is on amazon and the book was flipped through by myself and martin describes below.

At $20 and on sale, not sure how much longer you wanna “ponder” this purchase? If you don’t want it, don’t get it, plain and simple. As an adult, it is up to you to decide and do some research.

  6. Chirs! Yo bro, yea man, Martin and Rich The Human Crane use the box squat to warm them up for heavy deads!!!

They feel it doesn’t interfere and only helps them deadlift heavier.

We ALL broke records that day ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Jerry, you’re the man bro, much respect as your job is seriously intense!!

You need to crank some short, 15 minute density type workouts!

Thnx for taking the time to watch and read the info here bro!
