My 3 Go to BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES for Busy Dads • Busy Men

share

I drove six hours to Vermont the other day and it was my second trip in one week for The Spartan Wrestling Camp.

Left early. Hit traffic in good ol' North Jersey. Missed my morning workout window completely because I was trying to repair a piece of equipment. When my morning workout is missed, it weighs on me.

I promised myself as I drove to Vermont that I would do a bodyweight circuit when I arrived in Vermont on the farm, after dinner

By the time I got to Vermont it was too late and I missed dinner by 15 minutes at The Original general Store. There goes dinner!

I got out of the car and my legs and back felt like crowbars. I knew I had to move from both a physical and mental standpoint.

I got out of the car, walked to the pull up bars where we train the wrestlers and banged out pull ups, push ups and squats right there. These are my 3 go to exercises, especially when I am busy and have NO equipment.

No gym. No equipment. No motivational speech. Just decided it was happening and made it happen.

You can set a timer for 10 minutes or choose a specific number of rounds.

A) Pull Ups (Change Grip each set)

B) Push Ups

C) ANY Lower Body Bodyweight Exercises (Squats, Lunges, Squat Jumps, etc)

Watch the video. It's not impressive because of the numbers. It's not about how much I lifted or how many reps. It's about the decision to do the work when excuses are riding high. Six hours in a car is the easiest excuse in the world to skip a day. Most men would have taken it and felt fine about it. You must punch your excuses in the face. Refuse the mediocrity and the "common man" excuses.

Here's what I know after doing this for over thirty years. The men who actually change their life are not the ones with the perfect schedule, the perfect gym or the perfect conditions. They are the men who train regardless - they use whatever they've got and embrace the imperfections. In a driveway. In a hotel parking lot. On a patch of grass on the side of the road in Vermont.

I've had "workouts" where every time I stopped at a rest area during a long drive, I would do push ups, squats and a short run by parking at the furthest parking area from the rest area building. 20 squats, 20 push ups, run 100 yards. Feels great and charges the batteries.

Your excuse today is probably smaller than mine was after a long drive. No time. Too tired. Bad day. Kids needed you. Work ran long.

I get it. I have every one of those excuses available to me every single day, especially since becoming a Dad. The difference is I stopped negotiating with them a long time ago. As Jocko says, "Your feelings don't get a vote".

You don't need a gym. You don't need an hour. You need ten minutes and the willingness to stop talking yourself out of it.

Find your version of the grass patch today. Then go and do the WORK.
