I've got some rings in my garage, a Kettlebell in the backyard, 2 sleds stashed away and sandbags to come.
Here's a lil' inside look as to how I am getting back into those BadAss garage workouts, especially now that my house has a HIGH garage ceiling. I've got 2 climbing ropes in the back of my truck as well. This shit is gonna get deadly.
My Workout: 4 rounds for time:
A) 12 Ring Pull Ups
B) 6 / 6 Kettlebell Snatch w/70 lb Kettlebell
C) Run 400 meter
Question For You: Drop a comment with your most memorable garage gym workout you ever had. I am psyched to see your stories and workouts!

hey, zack, undergrounders, firebreathers…i have many ‘garage’ type workout’s….one of my favorite’s is 4 rounds of pushups,70 pound kettlebell snatch’s,30 lb. mace turn’s,and then indian club(17 lbs.) casts and swipes. once 4 sets is done of these back to back exercises,i perform 8-10 sled drag variations or do a farmers walk with 2-55 lb. kettlebells. it is funny that the name of the workout includes the phrase ‘firebreathers”…..i sort of resemble that remark,as my fire spinning belly dance partner and i do shows, which feature fire eating and bizarre sideshow acts. keep on training functional and hard guys!!!!!
Love the rings! I made a pair out of PVC conduit and I love doing ring push-ups, dips, chins, pulls, and I know I haven’t even tapped all the exercises that you can do. I’ve got a weighted vest once it gets too easy. haha
Good luck on the race! You’ll kill it.
hilarious, my 3.5 daughter flies on her scooter just like that
My all-time favorite is Crossfit’s “Murphy”.
for time:
1 mile run
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 squats
1 mile run
BRUTAL!!!
Good one Zack.
I live right next to a huge parking lot with no cars parked.Sometimes I just carry a pair of heavy kettlebells and crank a farmer walk workout using different kinds of hold: regular holds, shoulder rack holds, overhead holds…
Or I push my SUV for a disance and pull it back with hand over hand thick rope pull.
I am 52 and have a resting heart rate under 40, but am “fat and fit”, since I weigh 215, and am 5-10. I run, lift, etc, but am no miracle, like I read about on so many sites. I am just a mediocre athelete, working up to a bench with 2 plates (best is only 195)
Pullups are my nemesis. I have gotten to 5 in a row with just a tiny bit of kipping. I recently got the 32kg bell and can snatch it 6 times each, in multiple sets (rest of 1-2 minutes), but it makes my shoulders sore for 3 days (I need to be sensible and use it every other week, but it is very addictive!). I also love to push press it, and can “almost” strict press it.
My best workout recently was doing 10 pullups (5 without rest, rest 10 seconds, 2 more, etc) then the snatch 5 times with the heavy bell. I repeated 3 times, with chinups and close chins instead of pullups. I did some other stuff too, including using 2 35# kettlebells.
It aint much, but it feels good.
How do you make the rings using pvc? I want a pair but I’m fifteen and don’t have the money to buy real rings. I hope to get real ones eventually but until then, makeshift would be great.
Well can’t say I did garage workouts cos I don’t have a garage ๐ but last summer while I was away, got myself a long boat rope and made rings from that by slappin fat gripz on, cos if you grab the rope itself eventually it will tear your skin off. This way the rope doesn’t even touch your hands. I also found this fat rope for tying ships, ties the ends with duck tape so it doesn’t fall apart and got another 1-2m small rope which I tied around where the fat one in the middle where it was bending in half and ran my car over the small rope so everything was fixed in place and got myself some battling rope to do ๐ the neighbours weren’t too happy tho :p this was downstairs while the rings were up the stairs so this was additional cardio going up and down ๐
Good workout Zach.
We always workout out of my garage and front yard. We’ve got rings, sandbags, a pulling sled made from an old tire, a push (prowler type) sled I made out of wood, medicine balls, a sledgehammer and a mace.
So it’s some combination of those tools at various loads with sprints added sometimes.
My neighbors think I’m crazy, but none of them have taken up my offer to join us!
On Monday, I decided to do sled pulls as max effort. I worked up to 500# on a homemade sled and after 8′ it broke and I went flying across my lawn (felt like a beast even with my wife laughing hysterically). Then did backpack push-ups supersetted with below horizontal (feet elevated) backpack recline pull-ups with 60# pack 4 ladders to 4. Finished off with some tri’s and calves. I was also inspired by some guy name Zach to incorporate handstand pushups as my vertical press. Thought I may get 1 or 2, then some holds. My first workout sets were 7, 5, 4 and 2. Yesterday I did 9, 7, 6, and 4! For me these are rather epic workouts for where I am physically (coming back from cardiac surgery and spinal stenosis). Thanks for the inspiration!
DO DRAGON CRAWLS FOR A TIMED DISTANCE, GET DOWN ON ALL 4’S AN GO LIKE THE KOMODO. YOU SEE HOW STRONG THOSE THING’S LEGS ARE!!! DO IT UP!!!!
