Russian Wrestling Training

Around 2003 I read the book 'Secrets of Soviet Sports & Fitness Training', today is called 'Russian Secrets....

Dr. Yessis wrote the book in the early 70s, before I was born I believe.

I was amazed at how The Russians were doing smarter things 30 and now 40 years ago compared to The USA today.

Here is some insight of Russian Wrestling Training. Whether you wrestle or not, there is MUCH to learn from these videos. Enjoy.....

Although not a wrestling video, this video showcases powerful speed and power drills that wrestlers can utilize in their training if they are physically ready.

These are advanced drills and require a serious foundation of strength and skill in the weight room and in jumping technique.

  1. Love these old training footage of wrestlers, boxers and weightlifters. Old school never gets old – simple as that.
Apply it and get the work in and you’ll get great results. Even with average athletics, gens, etc. There’s no excuse for not putting in the work.

Chek out this weekends great victory of Cotto against the great Martinez. Also the win of Froch over Groves a week ago. Froch is as old school and “rockyesque” as it gets. Limited but a bad, bad mofo! He enjoys the actual fight because his training beforhand is so much more cruel. Talking of Spartan philosophy here, …

    Another thing –
brought my rings to the local park with me yesterday while enjoying time with my kids. Within minutes there was a group of kids around us wanting to try them out and having a great time doing basic gymnastics.
Never, ever underestimate the drive of play and the drive of curiosity within kids. Cant explain why todays parents and society neglect these awesome features of human nature and lets kids abilities shrink under facebook, twitter and computer games.
    Rant over, …
    Cheers

  2. within the first few minutes of the first video …. saw one of my wrestling coaches from McMaster University … Anatoli Belaglasov was my coach in the early 90’s. Unreal power for a 52 kilo guy. Just being around a guy like that changed your attitude and work ethic at every training session…
