Last weekend I spoke in Md. at the state wrestling coaches association.

I was fired up to train and the hotel gym was on the same floor as my room. It was a posh, pretty little studio.

But, I turned out the crappy music and annhialated my training. I felt like a million bucks because I didn't make some lame ass excuse for being too tired after driving a lot the night before, not enough sleep, not a good gym, bla bla, bla.

I stepped up. Period. There is something awesome that happens inside when you rise above and squash any excuses....

You feel that "edge" that you should always strive to improve upon. Sharpen your blade, always, 365.....

Give yourself a gut check workout. Hit a circuit with heavy weights and get uncomfortable.

Here are 3 Reason Why You Need To Crush A Gut Check Workout:

1) The mental toughness derived from a gut check workout carries over to greater success in ALL areas of your life. Get tough in training and you will rise to the top in other areas of your life.

2) The worst thing a man can to do is lose his edge. If you're getting soft in any shape or form, step up and attack. Men should always remain dangerous. The mind should always remain sharp, in turn, your body will stay sharp.

3) Live The Code. The 365 Code is all about daily improvement, thanks to Cary Kolat for inspiring the 365 Code. Improve your mind, your body and any other area in your life on a daily basis. A gut check workout will take you OUT of your comfort zone and teach you about what you're made of and where you need to improve.

In part 1 of my gut check workout I did this, non stop, resting to change weights only:

A) DB Bench Press

B) 1 Arm DB Rows

C) 1 Arm Clean / Snatch

D) Band Pull Aparts

I'll share part 2 soon enough.

  1. I literally just did a gut check workout earlier today!

  2. Z, been feeling kind of sick for a few days with pretty bad headaches; but I knew I had to attack some weights today regardless !
Did a good warm-up , then 5 x 5 bench, followed by Suicide Tate Presses, and chain push-ups.
Just sat down for my recovery shake and watched your
Gut check video , perfect timing .
    Feel a lot better now!

  3. and let the people say: AMEN

  4. Z, Last weekend, my best bud was getting married, woke up at the hotel on Saturday, both of us were crushed from the travel, the drinks the night before didn’t help either..but we said fuck it!! Got fired up, hit a circuit with a 400m run, some strict pull ups on a wooden structure outside, some air squats and killed it! Felt great after and his big day went smooth!

  5. Even great ones need to check themselves. Last night at practice the tire was calling me so I walked over as the players came to the field. About 500# without a knee. Explosive and aggressive! Just four reps-Grease the groove!

  6. Hi there Z. Glad you are feeling better and getting it turned around.

While I love IF, I find that for my clients who are having more “adrenal type issues” that fasting is not the best for them. Most do better with higher frequency, more protein and more carbs.

Have you looked at measuring stress with HRV (heart rate variability)? You can run them through your smart phone now. I’ve found it to be extremely useful.

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Mike great to hear from you, brotha! Yea man, I need to get the HRV, which app is your preferred?

  7. Well said bro.

I find that if I don’t regularly challenge myself in all areas of my life (gym, business, writing, speaking, whatever I am afraid of) then I start to get depressed and I start hating on life in general.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to challenge myself.
