Blast from the Past: Where it ALL Began!

share

Back in the day, I was training wrestlers from my garage and local playgrounds.

That soon evolved into Football players as well.

Check out one of my earliest videos training wrestlers....I DO miss those days, I won't lie 🙂

All of the wrestlers in that video started with me never making it to the state tournament.

Before they graduated all of them placed in the states and one of them was a state finalist.

Today, some of them wrestle for Division 1 schools and others for D 3 schools. 1 of them is nationally ranked as a top 5 wrestler in the country!

Got comments / questions about those "early days"?

Post them below and I'll answer!

Make it Happen!

Peace,

PS: Wanna learn my methods for building athletes who dominate the competition? On August 22nd I'll be holding a special, 1 day Underground Strength Coach Certification. This day will be entirely focused on training. Attendees will have the option to stop by the gym Friday and train with my athletes and see how I run my biz.

PPS: The Lost Secrets of Strength DVD & Audio will be released in early August. 100 copies will be made and once they are gone they are gone. To get Joe DeFranco and I in the same room for training and biz coaching would cost over $ 2,000 - the action takers and go-getters who move FAST will be getting this ass kicking seminar for a small fraction of the cost. Stay tuned!

Your tips and philosophy have energized my workouts. I’m getting stronger using a lot of your methods, and my clients are losing weight too. I can’t believe I haven’t been doing pullups all these years. For the last 2 months I’ve been eating them every workout and getting jacked!

Now I wan’t to incorporate Kettlebells. How do I go about doing that? How can I use Kettlebells to get my back jackeddd!

    thanx for posting this!

LOVE those videos from your good ol’ days in the garage and the playgrounds – I believe, you miss it.

at what time was this (2006?)?

how many clients did you have at this time?

  3. Ha ha!!

I bet your neighbours wondered what you were up to and thought you were a bit nuts didn’t they!!!

Looks good though – out of interest Zach, I’m a new reader and am right out of shape. I’m mid thirties, ex amateur soccer player (in UK). I ruptured my Cruciate ligament and was then ill – continued to eat like crap for many years and now want to get myself in the best shape ever.

Where would you recommend I start – I love the look of bodyweight excercises etc as opposed to just lifting weights but to be honest I don’t think I’m strong enough/fit enough to do much to begin with.

I’ve got access to a treadmill and some PowerBlock dumbbells – what would you recommend I do to get out of this routine of sitting on my arse all day at work, eating crap and taking no exercise (I’ve also got four kids under 8 so time can be an issue sometimes).

I have to turn this situation around so I can play soccer again but more importantly do the simple things like take my kids swimming – I’m not doing it in my current state!!

    Cheers Zach!!

  4. That video has me all fired up! I might have to skip my off day and head out in the back yard and throw arounds some sandbags!

  5. Awesome training! Simple hard work at its best.

  6. Guys – I had about 12 – 15 athletes back then, slightly more than 1/2 were wrestlers, the rest were Football players.

My backyard was a mad house!

Kettlebells being tossed aorund, ropes climbed hanging from tree limbs, sledge hammers smashing old tree stumps and sandbags being man-handled!

Phil – definitely bodyweight training bro AND sled work via https://zacheven-esh.com/bodyweight.php

For the k-bell Dustin, I dig em’ at http://UndergroundKettlebells.com – jack that back up in NO time!

gotta run and open the gym

    peace bruddahs!

  7. Love the old school training video. You should post more like this!

  8. I like the grainy, raw type video. Makes it look like a UFC promo with all the basement training. Sorry, been watching the top 100 fights special they have in rotation this week.

Roman wrestlers and gymnasts are by far the strongest athletes out there. Major pro athletes couldn’t hold a candle to these guys. As always, thanks for sharing Zach!
