Charles Atlas and our 88 lb. weakling

share

Charles Atlas has the story of the 97 lb. weakling, well, I've got one about an 88 lb. weakling.

His name is Charlie Frankel. How I met Charlie is quite the story....

It was in the attic of a Church, where a hard core wrestling club was once housed.

I brought a few 50 lb. sandbags and Charlie could barely carry our smallest sandbag without wrestling it and stumbling all over the place.

At the time, Charlie was in 10th grade and wrestling in the 103 lb. weight class, except he had a serious problem...15 lbs. of problems that is!

Charlie started training with us 1 month before wrestling season...a few weeks into the season he broke his collar bone during a match as his opponent applied a move called the "power half".

Being weak means you'll be that much more likely to get injured.

Once Charlie healed up and the season ended we got back to work.

The next year Charlie wrestled at 103 lbs. without cutting weight, still a bit light, but he placed 7th in the NJ State Wrestling tournament, no small feet in itself!

The hard training continued and Charlie had a hard time making 103 lbs as a senior but he did it and finished 3rd in the state!

Today, we finished a workout and Charlie was weighing at 125 lbs, a full 37 lbs. heavier from 2 years ago.

We didn't do it the Charles Atlas way, but it certainly was old fashioned.

We provided the tools but Charlie provided the dedication, intensity and mind power to make it all happen.

Now Charlie is preparing to wrestling in Delaware at one of the top D 3 schools in the country.

The biggest reason why Charlie saw these results is because he stuck with it and never gave up.

Most people quit and give up or keep changing things looking for the magic bullet.

Sorry, there is no magic bullet....hard work and consistency seems to be the missing secret nowadays.

Now it's your turn to get to work!
