Can Deadlifts Cure Your Back Pain?

share

My back was going into spasms on the craziest things: doing dishes, warm ups with DB side raises,  bent over row with a light barbell. It felt like a shot of lightning was hitting me in the back. I spoke to some "experts" and they all insisted I was having disc issues.

I got tired of hearing how the world was going to end with my "bad back" and decided to go back to something I did in 1996 after my first knee surgery. What is that very thing? Listening to my OWN body & figuring it out on my own.

After my first knee surgery I was not given any rehab and I also had NO understanding of rehab for my knee. After visiting several Doctors I decided I would experiment with what works and cut everything if I felt an ounce of pain or discomfort.

I immediately began feeling better by moving. And, squatting.

With my back pain, I was growing tired of the confusion. In fact, I was honestly f--ing pissed.

I was avoiding the barbell. Kettlebells only.

You know, trying to build up my "core" - sorry, I hate that gimmick word, we use the word "Trunk" around here.

So what made me get back to the barbell?

I had just done a podcast with my friend and after the podcast was over he said, "Dude, let me program for you. You're so damn busy, this will be a relief for you. You won't have to think about anything. Just follow the training I send you."

I told him we would go for it as a 30 day experiment and I would pay him like anyone else. Nothing free.

I always invest in myself and try to steer clear of all things fr-ee. When I pony up and pay, then I am IN. Unlike many of today's common folk who ONLY want fr-ee, hence, why they continue to struggle. They have no skin in the game.

I don't like wasting money. So I was dead set on following through.

This program had me Deadlifting twice a week.

HARD. I was pushing myself and sometimes I thought my back was gonna explode.

At first, my lower back felt like the grim reaper was on me at all times. I was so ready to quit those first 2 weeks!

I kept up with my trunk stability work and followed this basic barbell and calisthenics program to the T.

But then.....

My body adapted.

This is what we do. We adapt.

How? You ask, my inquisitive little friend?

By getting Stronger.

THAT is how we adapt.

Now, understand this. Many things work differently for different people. And on the flip side, one thing few don't want to admit is that a LOT of training works for the majority of people. Meaning, you do NOT need some hyper special, individualized program just for you.

Listen.....

I KNOW everyone thinks they are so different and special that they need some program from the hidden treasures of The Original Underground Strength Garage......

No.

The basics will work for YOU.

So as much as I speak about having days / weeks or longer away from the barbell, you WILL want to come back. You will want to come back as you prepare for the zombies or simply Training for LIFE.

Well, no one is forcing you to be strong. This is a choice, just as weakness and success are also choices.

You can always BEAST it up with either of these programs that do NOT use barbells:

Kettlebell Bodyweight Hybrid

Bodyweight Bodybuilding
