Goals, Goals, GOALS – Ya Gotta Have Them, Here’s Why

share

Arnold-Mercedes-1977

The other day I gathered 1 of my groups at The Underground Strength Gym after their warm up.

I asked them Who has goals here?

Who knows what they are training for and what they want to achieve?

There were a few who knew EXACTLY what their goals were.

A few understood that they would need to step up their commitment level to actually achieve those goals.

And a few honestly had to tell themselves (and me) that they have NO clue what they're training for.

I replied to the athletes with NO goals that this is why their training intensity and dedication is poor at best.

I didn't say this to be rude, I said it because telling them the truth about What It Takes is the key to helping them achieve success. Lying to them would NOT help them. They get lied to on the regular and their excuses are given the green light.

WHY?

Because we're in a day and age where excellence is feared and even frowned upon in "normal" places such as many schools and even from parents.

Unless you change this behavior NOW, you'll be 25, 25, 55, 75 with NO goals.

Let me explain more....

The comments in this video are great as well. Athletes & Parents sharing how goal setting is helping them achieve a much higher level of success.

Arnold was the King of goal setting when he was dominating the bodybuilding scene in the 70s.

He applied his goal setting and "Stay Hungry" mentality to the movie business, real estate, politics, etc. He dominated all of these areas because of his goal setting and relentless pursuit of achieving his goals.

No matter what you do in life, you need goals. Goals allow you to reverse engineer your action plan and most of all, you can see if you're truly doing what it takes to meet your goals.

Plenty of people TALK about their big goals but their actions tell you otherwise.

Set your goals.

Set deadlines.

Reverse engineer your action plan.

Attack your goals with a Relentless Pursuit of Excellence.

    Zach,

I’ve had goals before. I have goals now. I always aim to meet my goals and I do! But looking—those were superficial. A 600lb deadlift was a goal and I accomplished it. But that goal doesn’t put money in my pocket. Now I have three big goals that I am working crazy hard to achieve. You said it, action means everything. This goal combines my passions. And I can only hope it will be fruitful enough to provide for my family.

Zach, the day I achieve this goal—I’ll let you know what it is. That is also the same day I am going to be super proud. When you work hard on a goal, set deadlines, become critical of yourself, put in endless hours in a goal—it makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for the addictional motivation today!

    1. DM – I put up goals on a white board in my office and deadline next to the goals.

They keep me going along with knowing my WHY!

Hello, Coach great talk it definitely gets me fired up because you could be talking to me directly. I allow negative thoughts into my head which leads to excuses which lead to me giving in. I am still working that issue in my training but in my personal life, I force uncertainties upon myself take them on and kick ass! The index card idea is great I am going to start using that to help in my training. I also eliminated distractions like social media from my phone it has freed up so much time for me it was like a black hole of time.

    Thank You

Yo Bruduh!! You are 150% on point (as always haha) goal setting is the biggest factor in success.

I want to build upon something you mentioned. You talked about how many of the kids did not have a response … OR did they and just not want to share them aloud????

A lot of people out there say “if you have goals don’t let anybody in on them. That will remove the meaning of your goals” blah blah blah.

I say F%$& that. If asked SAY THEM PROUDLY AND WITH CONVICTION. The reason: this creates another key factor towards success … ACCOUNTABILITY.

People fear sharing their goals because they don’t want to put the pressure on themselves. Hey if nobody knows then if I fail its “okay”.

Every success I’ve had in my life I have:
1.) set goals 2.) let anybody know about them if asked

Raise the motha f%$&n stakes! Let a little fear into your life. You shouldn’t fear failure , but YOU MUST fear not holding yourself accountable. That goes for athletes, coaches you name it.

Accountability = Action. Action = success.

Thankfully I was taught this lesson while at the Underground some time ago.

Mine: – Make a career out of being a kick ass strength coach
    – Be able to support myself and a family

Miss ya Zach! As Big House says let’s continue “On that get right”

    1. Sampson great to hear that you’re staying RELENTLESS.

i wish these kids were just keeping goals to themselves.

There are LOTS of athletes who have:

      – Coaches who aren’t that good, their Coaches make excuses, don’t care a whole lot & don’t build the kids emotionally….. They just see what they see and never help shape the young men

      LOTS of Coaches like that

      – We have parents who make a LOT of excuses for kids. A LOT of excuses.

This adds up in a negative way and then we have lost kids w NO goals.

Parents & sport coaches connect MORE w/ the kids than I do, so we need them to be the BIG influencers.

Their environment is key and bc I know many of these kids don’t have a great environment, we build it here at The Underground, and give them all we’ve got!

NO goals now? We’re changing that!
