How to Achieve Greatness and Become Fearless

by Zach Even - Esh 14 Comments

arnold education of a bodybuilderMany, Many, MANY years ago, as a young teen, reading Arnold's book, 'Education of a Bodybuilder' I remember Arnold speaking about being Fearless.

I would keep taking the book out from the school library, renewing it every 2 weeks so noone else could read about Arnie and learn his secrets. Just me, it was all mine!

I remember laughing to myself as my name was the only name to fill up both front and back of all the sign out cards for this awesome book.

Arnold was Fearless to go heavier and move HUGE & Massive poundages that others feared.

Arnold would perform calf raises with over 1,000 lbs, loading the calf machine to maximum arnold calf raisecapacity plus having his training partner stand on the machine!

Arnold went the extra mile and did NOT fear the heavy load sitting on his back because he was sooo freaking hungry to make his calves grow because he wanted to win so badly!

Arnold also understood that this going the extra mile, or sometimes only the extra few inches is what created the greatness that so many others feared doing.

Are you going the extra mile?

What about the extra inch?

On Sunday my athletes were invited to come in for a free workout with the Coaches going through the certification / mentorship. It was a 10 AM workout.

2 kids who said they would show, did not. That is missing out on inches and miles.

That is FEAR of waking up and doing something when perhaps your mind and body are not wanting it. Sometimes, ya just gotta say 'F**k it!", right?

Arnold was Fearless to travel to America to compete against the best bodybuilders in the world when he did not speak English.

Fearless to tell people of his lofty goals of becoming the best built man in the world, moving to America and becoming a Hollywood star known around the world.

Everyone else around Arnold focused on how crazy he was, and how he should not have such "dreams".

His passioned toppled and trampled over all obstacles and road blocks.

Arnold's most powerful weapon: His Mind.

Your most powerful weapon? Your Mind.

Only if you so choose.

Most people remain scared their entire life and fear the risk of doing what Arnold did; Achieving Greatness.

Greatness to you may not mean becoming a Hollywood action hero and Mr. Olympia.

It might mean benching 315 lbs, quitting your lame 9-5 suit & tie job and not waking up to an alarm clock.

YOU decide what Greatness means and only you can define it.

But, just like Arnie did, you gotta have that "F**K It!" attitude and go for it.

You gotta believe that you too, are Numero Uno!

arnold numero uno

Above, Arnold believed he was Numero Uno, even when he wasn't smokin' The Ganja Mon!

It's OK to be scared, the trick is, not allowing your fear to control you!

Want to know more ways to achieve greatness and become fearless?

Listen to this Audio Interrogation that I did with Matt Furey, author of The Unbeatbale Man.

Or....Click Play Below while you listen....

This was obviously just the scratching of the surface.

But, I definitely want to hear your thoughts on how you overcome fear and what you do to achieve greatness in your life.

What does greatness mean to you?

I am psyched to see what you write in the comments section!

Peace!

I needed that this morning Zach!

It’s been a tough couple of months for me trying to transition from a place I hated and wasn’t allowed to do what I do best.

It’s hard as hell making a go of it on your own but I have a meeting today with a pretty influential guy around here and if things go right I could be on the path to doing exactly what I want!

    I’m pumped now brother!

    Thanks again!

    Coach Z!

What do I say? Where to start? This topic in particular is one that hits close to home. F.E.A.R. is simply: False Evidence Appearing Real. Meaning that nothing is really as scary as it may seem initially- it can be as intimidating or as conquerable (Fictionary. I am coining that phrase here on the Underground)as we concieve it to be.

Perception is reality. No where is that more apparent then when it comes to our own personal goals and aspirations. Greatness can be attained anywhere; which you allude to.

Greatness is in the details. I explain this to my kids everyday in football practice. We are 0-2-1 on the season our last game is tomorrow and we are guarenteed to be in the playoffs- I tell them everyday we practice that we are going to win a championship. I believe that! I believed it right from the beginning of the season. My job as a coach, I feel is to get the kids to believe. To believe in themselves, their teammates, the coaches and ultimately the mission of the team.

Some of these kids are fighting their fears every day when they come to practice, some fight their fears in the game and still for some the fight is internalized (the latter was me). Regardless of where the fight lies eventually they will believe- they have no choice with me in their corner (lol)!

These kids are warriors! I am sure that all of us here on the forum can find an example of courage that inspires us to live our days a little fuller.

For me, I take inspiration from differently abled children and the Special Olympics. These Olympic Games are special indeed as it allows us to gaze at true athleticism. The power and beauty of sport is in its fostering of an indominatable human spirit and nowhere is this more apparent than in the aforementioned examples in my opinion!

So the next time you think you CAN’T just think of those that DO! (…especially those that do it without all of the physical gifts you may have.)

…”I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.” – D.H. Lawerence

Find your wings; spread them and soar! F#ck it- “normal people get normal results- dare to be extraordinary and lead the life you deserve.”

wohh zach you got me fired up!
to overcome fear, i just always think, if the situation sounds or looks scary, and i am getting that sensation of fearn and ask my self what would happen if this happened…then just do it! go with the flow, and make the best out of it

its like a roller coaster, at first you are scared to get on, but once the ride is all over you know it was all worth it! and sometimes you even want more!

    keep it up Z!

The mind is a powerful weapon. It’s unbelievable how some people can change your life in a number of ways. It’s so true on how we all need to find like minded people and surround ourselves with those people to help become successful. Awesome!

Luis, sooo right you are bruddah! It looks scarey from the outside, but, once you take the jump you start to realize it was nowhere near as bad as what we once thought!

If you wait, you’re only gonna get older, not much else will change if you wait.
