You do remember I eat pull ups for breakfast, eh mate? So should you, 10 pull ups is the minimum you should be able to pull, if your under 175 lbs, 20 reps is the minimum.
Wait till you see the rest of this upper body blastin' workout! It's bad ass and I got a crazy pump from it.

hell yeah bro! We are always rocking different variations of pull ups at the gym.
You can’t help but bring up the intensity! I like the idea with the swiss bar because you can easily change the grips. Great stuff as usual, Zach!

Zach I love the swiss bar idea. I’ll try some neutral grip pullups in a couple days. What do you suggest for a pull push session using deadlifts as the pull? I want to do a push exercise that wont fry my chest since I already killed it yesterday with the EDT workout Elliot suggested in the interview.
Zach, I have noticed on many videos that you train barefoot, or with gym socks. why is that?
Myron – I know bro, I have a video coming out sometime next week of a “real” gym, and of course, it’s about to go “under” as the owner doesn’t know how to attract the hardcore guys.
There are many hardcore lifters, stuck going to work out world and retro fitness, forced to wear their i pods and train alone….
I am very tempted to open a gym model w/open membership for a flat monthly fee, problem is those places don’t make any money π

van halen rocks as rocks your training session. love neutral pull-ups too, brings the guns great in play π
far too many folks only do “normal” pull-ups. vary grip and hand spacing!
My gym doesnt have a swiss bar in the budget right now,but we do have chains hanging from our pullup bar. I use the crossover cable handles with carabiners connected to the horizontal portion of the chain to do neautral grip pullups.
Ive tried a few variations with other handles,including a lat pulldown bar,but those spin too much. The cable crossover handles are just unstable enough to be somewhat dynamic without being too difficult.
Yo Z! Is that imovie editing I see? Good stuff! I haven’t stopped doing pull-ups since I got out of the Marine Corps. I remember during the test I would do 10 palms forward and then while still hanging switch around to palms facing me and crank out 10 more for the 20 required for max points. Rocked my back and arms! Keep slaying the iron beast!

I weigh in at 220 lbs. and pull-ups and chin-ups have always been tough for me. I can usually only get about 3 with a close grip. What’s the best way to build that number up to something respectable?

I started hitting the Rings this week for Pull Ups along with upside down vertical hangs and walkin on the paralell bars… Killer stuff.. The Ring Pull Ups are freakin awesome and have you feeling totally jakked
Couple this with the Hand Walks and Handstand Push Ups bro and you got a good part of my workout this mornin’

myron, (post 3) why wish for one in your area? DIY buddy, DIY! heck, i’ve made a lot of the gear i use in my basic gym at home(recently made first big purchase of squat rack after the old way became unsafe ;), the hardest part about doing it is training on ya own..

Zack, is there an open style option over at your place or is it more of a one-on-one deal? Yea it sucks training in the commercial style gym where 99.99 percent of people are there to become “bodybuilders” and you get the strange looks when doing workouts that are out of the “norm”. When all said and done you gotta just let the beast out and not give 2 shits about where your getting it done.

Jay – the sneakers offer too much support, very unnatural. This is a big reason why athletes who always wear their jacked up sneakers have ankle problems, toe problems, knee pain, etc.
Moving the body without support makes it stronger!
Barefoot training also teaches “rooting”, the feet muscles actively grab the floor when doing movements, or vice versa if need be. In sneakers they are not aggressively working.

Benajmin, I don’t measure heart rate or shit like that, I just attack and push the pace. I am more in tune w/my body that way.

Mike – work the pull ups almost daily, not in full blown workout format, but as Pavel calls grease the groove.
So almost daily, you will hit a few sets of pull ups through the day with submax effort, BUT, you’re always fresh when you hit ea. set
The regular practice will make you stronger
# 2) i have never seen you bro, but, you may need to shed some pounds while increasing strength / muscle to improve your relative body strength.
Still, I’ve always had dudes at my gym perform pull up s and recline rows, even the guys over 250 lbs!
BUT, the 250+ lb dudes were strong and lean!!
You must be highly motivated to crush them pull ups.

Wow, I think I’m doing well at getting 8 pull-ups! 10 would be a good goal right now. 20??? I don’t know that I am woman enough to ever get there. And I weigh in around 105#.
I definitely prefer no shoes for working out, that way your proprioceptors get involved.
