We've all heard the saying, "I've got no time....."
We all know, there is truly no such excuse.
We make time for what's important and make excuses for what is not.
There are many days I find myself in a time crunch, especially this Summer as I have my kids in various sports camps and I am driving here and there and then attacking my business and day to day activities.
Some would advise to wake up earlier and get the training in but when you're a working family, you can't go and leave an empty house of kids at 5 AM.
Here's a few things I do to get the job done on days that can potentially become the "I don't have time to workout" BS.....
- GTG Grease the Groove (Full Article Explained)
- Do 1 BIG lift and attack it. Any variation of sets and reps works here. It can be working up to a 20 rep set of squats, a few heavy sets of deadlifts, a long distance farmer walk, heavy power cleans for heavy singles, etc. As always, the basics win.
- 5 Minutes of Burpees.
- Sprints
- Clean & Press Variations
Yesterday was one of those days for me. The heat was upper 80s and the humidity was high.
Sometimes, I will take my kids with me to the gym as I bang out a quick session. But, my gym was in the 90s, hotter inside than it was outside.
I don't need to do that to my kids. The responsibility to be STRONG is on my shoulders. So, I planned my "Get Shyt Done" workout in my head all day long, but, as Iron Mike Tyson used to say.....
"Everybody Has A Plan Until They Get Punched In The Face."
As my plan ran through my head during the day things constantly changed.
The original plan was to train with 1 of my quieter groups at The Underground Strength Gym and bang out some deadlifts.
I was studying Kirk Kaworski's Deadlifts and inspired by conversations with Marty Gallagher, as always.

I wanted to practice the more upright deadlift that Marty encourages, something you begin to think about more and more, at least I do, nearing age 40. Longevity of my body and back inspires me.
Before 2 PM came around each of my classes had a new athlete signed up for a trial training session. My son had to go to the Doctor. My daughter had Tennis. The list went on and on.
At the end of the day, I mixed in my Deadlifts with some cleaning of the gym.
I got the job done. 315 on the bar and 1 rep after another, I practiced a more upright deadlift, over and over and over again.
At the end of the day I had 2 options to go home with.
The option of excuses or the option of getting the job done.
We ALL have decisions and options. We all have the same 24 hours in a day.
We ALL have the option to be weak or strong. The choice is yours.
I choose to LIVE STRONG.

So true, Zach!
We have a funeral in the works for my brother, and missing my training won’t help anything.
The best thing for me to do is to keep my discipline and stay strong for my family.
Frank, prayers to you, my brother.
I know you, Frank….. the iron is the ultimate medicine for your life!
We’ve got your back if you need us!
Zach, seems like we’re always on the same page…
I don’t get to my weight room until 4:30-5 pm, after a full day of work, and there are MANY days when I’m feeling the drag (and my weekends are often like you describe your day above).
So just last week I decided to put 225 on one bar and just leave it off to the side, and I will deadlift it several times while I’m training the kids, or cleaning up afterwards.
Inspired by you, bro!
Brian D, hellz yea! I’ve done it w/ deadlifts and with squats.
Squats are a bit lighter as I feel the joints need some warming up to hit GTG on them but I was squatting 185 in Grease the Groove fashion.
Here’s the article for a refresher, brotha!

Hey what you think of the soloflex is that a good investment. I typically workout using body-weight, suspension training and resistance bands. By the way no hard feelings for you unsubscribing me for not reading your emails often.
