What REALLY Matters Is NOT A Best Seller

My book launched on a Monday and by Wednesday morning it hit # 1 on Amazon Kindle Exercise Section and was also sitting in the top 10 for physical books.

I was pumped when I got the news that we hit # 1 on Kindle, NO lie.

I was psyched and fired UP! I was finishing up a training session with my buddy at The Underground Strength Gym in Manasquan and I sent my wife a text message right away.

But then, I got an e mail from a Dad of 1 of the kids I train at my Underground Strength Gym.

This is the e mail that changed my mind on a LOT of stuff.....

He told me how the training at The Underground Strength Gym changed his son's life.

How he played his best game ever, shocking many people in the process.

The Dad told me that what we do for the athletes at The Underground is amazing.

It all made sense for me, in a bigger way than before.

You see, everything I've always done has been to be the best. 2nd place or trying to be good made no sense to me. Everything was in the same category with regards to kicking ass and taking names.

That afternoon I picked up my kids from school and I was the Dad they love. Period.

My kids have NO clue what a "Best Seller" is. They simply care about how much I love them and care for them.

My goal is for The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning to live ON far past my own life. To change lives of people around the world, to inspire them to live a STRONG, POWERFUL Life.

It's NOT just about being strong in the gym.

What matters is the impact I have on other people's lives. Can I inspire them to be STRONG. Can I inspire my own kids to do GREAT things.

It takes some serious thought, to ask yourself, "Who am I?"

Recently, I took a BIG change in my life.

I let go of a LOT of things I do on the internet with my web business.

I have immersed myself greater into my coaching, the very thing I LOVE to do. That feeling of being in a gym, inspiring and pushing athletes to become better than their best, to teach them how to be STRONG beyond the gym.....

I have begun working with The Lehigh University Wrestling Team.

Lehigh University Wrestling Team 1936
Lehigh University Wrestling Team 1936

I am beyond fired up when I am in that building, to be part of a 100 + year tradition, a legacy of Gladiators.....

It's easy to lose yourself when people encourage you to take one direction over another.

But through my years on this earth, I want to show my kids and everyone I work with, that you MUST follow YOUR Heart, NOT the herd.

It's easy to get caught up in what everyone else thinks is "important".

Easy to lose yourself.....

It's TOUGH to do what you know is right, even when everyone else is telling you it's not.

That is TRUE STRENGTH.

When you can apply the lessons you've learned from lifting and put them to use in Your Life.

  1. That’s great perspective Zach. It’s easy and very common for most to get caught up in “the rat race” of life and work. We often allow our minds to wander ahead to what’s next rather than concentrating on what is right in front of us.

There is a quote that I love by Ayn Rand. It says “A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.” Like you I am also very competitive and want to be the best.

However, after reading this quote I realized that my intent is to be the best because of my desire to achieve, not just for the act of defeating the guy in front of me.

You clearly fall into this same category. That’s a very powerful quote if you think about it. Many guys will do whatever it takes “just to win” and their motivation is a mirage…an illusion if you will.

Having perspective is a sign of a creative man and you just demonstrated it here again my friend. Great post. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Blue collar work ethic, brotha!!!
