Over 10 years later, I am still shocked with how strong I got and how much muscle I packed on when I trained in my parents garage. I bought a 300 lb weight set from CostCo, had a pair of 50 and 100 lb dumbbells, a flat utility bench and flimsy, cheap squat rack, aka a gun rack.
Let me further explain.... ALL Truth....

The basic lifts are like friends. The ones that really count last a lifetime, the other stuff is all bull shit! #TRUTH

You said it, brutha!
I loved how you said it…The Iron never Lies. And it’s damn true.
Bottom line is that, men–need to be lifting heavy. Going for muscular endurance, doing high reps with light weight is not a BAD thing, but ANYBODY can do that. Take 10 men, they can all lift a pair of 25lbers. How many reps will be the question. But not all 10 men can deadlift, squat, and bench 315 to 500lbs for. That has to be earned.
Hey Zach, quick question for you man! Then I’ll quit buggin you so much! I’ve gotten some great advice from you about working out while holding a heavy labor job. Now I am wondering whether you believe it would be better to wake up EARLY and train before work, do my ten hours, and then do stretching/soft tissue/recovery work after I get off work. -OR- train and do recovery work AFTER work! I work 6 a.m. To 5 p.m. And luckily there is a gym about a quarter mile down the road from our hotel!… Any response or advice would be awesome! Sorry for being such a pest bro haha you are just such a stud that I try to soak up all the knowledge I can from you! Just a testament to how you can influence the lives of athletes even all the way down in Northern Arizona! Keep up the great work! #LiveTheCode #GettingStronger #EVERYDAY!!

That is the simple honest truth. I see way way to many people at planetshitness doing nothing and enjoying it. They tell me but its fun and I like to hangout withe people there they are nice. I say so are the people in my home and I would much rather be with them and sitting at home doing nothing would get me in as good a shape as you going to that do nothing waste of time money and space. The gym a real gym should be full of people attacking live and no time to socialize. You can tell yourself a hundred different reasons why your weak and have bad health but the simple truth is shown everytime you walk threw the gym door. Great post.
I’M GONNA QUOTE ON THAT ONE!
Hi Zach,
I couldn’t agree with you more. I work at a Edmonds Crossfit in Seattle where the owner Morgan, is Underground Certified. He has changed our programing to revolve around the iron. Our clients squat, deadlift, bench press, Olympic lifts and use bodyweight; our clients are seeing amazing results.
I train the Underground way with heavy iron and bodyweight. I keep it simple, work hard and take names.
