Diamond Gym, 5 AM Workouts & NEVER Fading

share

Diamond-Gym

Yesterday I took a trip to my old stomping grounds, Diamond Gym. I spent my late teens through my mid 20s commuting to Diamond Gym. I will never forget that place and the intensity that oozed out of that gym.

I've learned some simple yet powerful lessons since my late teens and my experiences from Diamond Gym, life, wrestling and The Underground Strength Gym.

In this video I share the following 7 lessons:

- Why motivated people always get shit done EARLY while everyone else sleeps

- How John Kemper ran Diamond Gym like a Wild West Saloon to help ALL the lifters unleash their Inner Warrior

- What is the difference between those who make excuses and those who make time?

- My thoughts on training for "core strength" & "vertical jump"

- Why being passionate will always trump the fads & gimmicks

- Why you should be true to yourself for long term success

- What is the 1 thing ALL successful people do?

Check this video and share it with a friend / colleague that you know who needs a serious dose of inspiration, motivation, education and reality.

THNX!

  1. Zach,
you’re hitting it! Great kick, thx.

Right now I’m working from 8-17h, before I take on another job from 18h-21h. So – not much time during the day. Training being a crucial, personal thing for me I have to work around things. I rescheduled my running to early morning hours and do bodyweight and crossfit exercises in pauses at work.
Doing 3 sets of 20 burpees doesnt take much time, doing FRAN does take 3-13min – depending how fit you are. I filled canister with concrete and deposited them at work for farmer walks. Pushups, pullups can be done just about anywhere.

What I’m saying is – working around things and making things happen is possible and transcends definetly to other areas of life.

Financially I’m having a real hard time in life right now, training helps me to staying focused.
    Keep it coming.

    1. Sven keep hustling bro and stay tough, LOVE the cement buckets for weights ideas

Sometimes in life we have tough times and gotta grind through and rise above OR life will crush you!

U can kick ass if U choose to!

Use your fitness knowledge bro and go train some peeps!

  2. Great stuff as always, ALPHA all the way!

I have to say that the military instilled the GET IMPORTANT STUFF DONE FIRST! mentality
The only easy day was yesterday!

However, not everyone’s “morning” is the same. I now often have to work or go on a SAR in the witching hours of the night, so my 5am is often 12pm.

    Like the others comments to,
Knowledge allows u to get a workout done anywhere, anytime, and with anything!

    1. PS example:

Had to spend 4 weeks out in Atlantic on a Square Rigger in service. So we would climb up the yard arm netting up and down as fast as possible and do pull-ups off the sail ropes.

  3. Love it! I trained with a coach when I was 14 for Olympic lifting. This past July I ran into him at a cert and he invited me back to his place to train with his athletes. It is an old garage and the only thing different was he had a glute ham machine. Otherwise it was all the same. That place has produced over 40 National Champions, countless State Champions and a few Olympic alternates. Something in the air.
Every Sunday I leave my family before supper to drive 45 minutes to his place to train. You do what you have to do to be a better athlete and coach. Over 40 years of coaching experience! I can’t pass that up!
Wednesday I had one of my wrestlers perform a pipe slam on the tire. I told him to take what ever pissed you off today and beat it until it is gone. He pounded that tire! When he was done I asked how he felt. “Tired, but better.” I told him they should have this at your school so when someone was having a bad day they could vent. He said,”No this would be considered violent, and they say acting violently will led to more violence.” So I asked him if he was still mad, and he said No.
We are a violent species. The only species that kills for reasons other than food or protection. If you suppress violence it is not different than putting a lid on a pot of boiling water. It will blow when the pressure gets high enough. But if you vent the pot the pressure will level out until all the water is gone. Meaning you need to vent your frustration or you will blow with a greater violence.
There is a beauty about getting Under the Bar. My coach says in 40 years of coaching and meeting athletes from all over the world he has never met one that has committed a violent crime or committed suicide. Something magical about the steel!
Keep swearing because that is your way of venting your passion! If someone has a problem then Boo Hoo! Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows! It is a cruel place and it will beat you to your knees if you let it!-Rocky

  4. Hard work, drilling the basics, and lifting heavy is what we do.
I had a person walk in the other day, and they looked at my 1400 Cave, and asked, “Is this all there is to your gym?”
I told if she wanted a shiny big gym instead of results that this place was not for her. We are about results, period!
That, my friend, is a big part of what I’ve learned from you over the years.
No compromise! Mediocrity is not tolerated!
She walked back min the next day and wanted to join.

  6. Nick Veenstra says:

‘How about training to be fuckin badasses’, love your work mate!

    1. Thnx, Nick and bros! Gotta represent…. NO time for being weak!

  7. Killer video! People are always surprised when they hear I work out early mornings. How do you do that they ask, do it bc it needs to be done! Reminds me of my dad back in the 60s and 70s, they would train at 11 pm if needed. Always inspiring Zach!
