P.S. - I get PSYCHED when I receive e mails such as these:

"Hi Zach, just wanted to let you know that thanks to some of the training tips from your site i won silver at the British amateur arm wrestling championships in the 220lb+ class, i weighed in at 245 and pulled a couple of guys much bigger than me. I'm now going to ramp up my training to make sure that i take gold next year, keep up the good work and stay strong."

I'll be checking my questions tomorrow. Tonight might be a late night 🙂

  1. G’Day Zach,
Thanx for the quality info that you pump out through your websites, its really opened my eyes. I know you’re a huge fan of the old school physical culture for kids, i was just curious on where i can find info on this as i’ve been given the opportunity to speak to some primary school teachers on how to try and bring some of these ideals back into our local schools. Any help would be greatly appreciated especially to help get the kids more active again…

  2. What kind of sprint training do you do with your football players? What does your template look like?

  3. Zach,

I know you are a fan of motivational books. So am I. However, so many of them contadict each other, or present a “system” that they want you to follow, which if followed properly, would exclude using other books. To clarify what I mean, you can’t really follow Jack Canfield’s book, Tommy Newberry’s book and Dax Moy’s book all at the same time.

When you read a book, do you follow it step-by-step like the author often suggest or do you just pick and choose what you want/need?

    Thanks!

  4. Phil…for physical culture and trianing of young athletes, search for gymnastics books, preferably go to a library for these. This will be great. And check out the U of Iowa phys ed page with Professor Ed Thomas…he has many, many newsletters saved on line w/physical culture and tons of photos to boot!

Our guys hit the sleds, prowlers hard and heavy. I have NO turf and very little area available in a parking lot, not enough for agility work.

If we did this back when we used fields, I taught them decelleration and some simple change of direction (I am NO SAQ expert) and then we played TAG games! That’s right, tag games – it was awesome to develop real world skills while developing speed endurance and application of skill.

Anytime we do speed / explosive work (EVERYTHING we do is explosive)….but if it was SAQ work or jumps of any sort, we do these first

Dave – I LISTEN to MANY motivational systems and programs and simply mold them into my own. I take lots of notes and follow their action steps…The ticket is finding what works for you, w/your schedule and lifestyle.

From there, it’s ALL about action. Take action BIG time and get uncomfortable…take risks and make it happen!
