I was fortunate to train at Dr. Ken’s house from 1999-2004, right after he sold the Iron Island gym. He has been a major influence on my career. I teach strength training classes that substitute for PE classes at a high school on Long Island. We still keep in touch and as he is generous enough to allow me to borrow equipment for our annual strongman contest ( chain dragging, car pushing, deadlift, axle presses, stones, etc) you would get a kick out of it. Most of my weight room is Doc’s stuff. Doc has been doing things since the 60’s that have become mainstream and glorified now. He is truly one of a kind. He really established a great community of lifters, as we know environment is so important. All of our contests are judged by the old Iron Island crew. Glad to see you write about him.

    1. Mike again, thanks for the comment and e mail, so glad you still connect with Dr. Ken and have a lot of his equipment!

I’d love to see a photo of the gym you have at the high school!

      Talk soon!

Dr Ken Legend! I used to have a heap of his old newsletters the Irontip. Unfortunately they “got lost” in an ugly divorce ha ha. He used to write some great articles in Hardgainer magazine too. Keep up the good work. Forever strong!

  3. Yes, Dr Ken did give some great tips in the magazine hard gainer. What a true expert in hard gains.
