Above, Quatro Deuce, Joe DeSena and Myself at SPARTAN HQ (Pittsfield, Vt) the weekend The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning was Launched AND the Weekend of The SPARTAN Underground Mastermind. A Busy & Awesome Weekend Wrapped In One!
Here's a story many of you don't know.....
It's a story I wanted to share so you understand that I am just like you.....
A story of how The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning never happened.
It almost became "another e book".....
But thanks to your support....
Thanks to a few friends....
Thanks to my family....
The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning became a reality. A REAL book, not just another PDF collecting cyber dust.
I have my days where I don't feel like doing or feel like I can't do....
The way I pull myself out of these slumps or these feelings that challenge me, is this.....

Then, I get e mails like this that inspire me to STAND STRONG.
First off, I just wanted to thank you for everything.
I just finished reading your book last night, cover to cover, for the second time.
I keep going back to the training stuff on a regular basis, but I wanted to read the whole story again.
I remembered when I first got the encyclopedia and tweeted at you about a year ago, you told me to let you know what I do with it.
To say that your book changed my life would be an understatement.
I just turned 30 a couple weeks ago. I was a competitive athlete my whole life and went to university on a wrestling scholarship. After too many concussions, my career came to an end. I assumed my athletic career was over.
I got married when I was 23 and have four kids now.
I had a good job that paid the bills and a happy family. I thought I had it made and that the rest of my life was set.
But deep down I was miserable.
I was still working out, but I was not training like I used to. There was nothing in my life to push me and make me stronger. I was waking up and going through the motions, everyday.
Then I read The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning.
I read, on average, a book every week. I read about training, business, and life in general.
But no book changed me in the way that yours did.
After reading it, I KNEW the career path I had chosen was not for me and that I needed something in my life to push me and where I could really make a difference in other people's lives. I had just finished running my first Spartan Race a couple months before hand and knew that that was what I wanted to do with my life. So I put a plan in place to train my ass off and become competitive in Spartan, and start training people for races as a business.
One year later, I qualified for and competed in the Spartan World Championships (finished 49th in my age group) and have a strong group of about 30 I've been training at playgrounds and in my garage.
I want to open a gym one day, but I'm following your advice on growing the group first.
Your podcast with Alwyn Cosgrove from a year or two ago is one I keep going back to. I quit my job to stay home with my kids during the day and am training people evenings and weekends to pay the bills.... and I couldn't imagine doing anything different ever again.
I'm a big believer in investing in my personal development. I wanted to head to New Jersey for an in person cert but I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and getting there was a bit of a challenge.
It wasn't the travel, or the price, it was the fact that as a stay at home Dad, I had no options for what to do with the kids. When I saw the Online Underground Strength Coach Certification was available, I jumped at the opportunity. I took all the money I made from training people that week and invested in the program.
Here's what I thought of it:
"Zach's Underground Strength Coach Certification is the fourth cert I've completed online.
Most online programs aren't much more than some reading, quizzes, and a final exam, but this one was different.
The series of videos that make this course up provide an amazing insight into what it's really like inside the Underground Strength Gym and training with Zach.
You can tell a lot of effort and passion went into it. As much as I would have loved to attend an in person cert, I just couldn't get there this year. An online program will never be as good as in person, but what Zach has put together is as close as you'll come.
The hours of video and information are unreal, not to mention the e-books you're provided with.
I was getting up at 4am every day to watch the videos because I couldn't wait to jump back into the course!
I've got a whole notebook filled with info and have already started implementing a ton of new things I got from the course into our training programs.
I can not recommend the online Underground Strength Coach Certification enough!

I'm going to get down to Jersey one of these days and look forward to meeting you in person. Thanks for everything - the inspiration and the smack upside the head I needed to turn my life around.

Just like I inspire you, YOU also inspire me! The e mail that Riley sent me inspires me to keep pushing and to Stay The F--ing Course!
Your comments and feedback keep me going. It inspires me to continue to be a teacher, even though I left the public school system years ago, I will always be a teacher. It's in my heart and soul.
In this world, if you don't stand up for yourself....
If you don't stand for something....
Then people will walk all over you and not think twice.
If you believe in something.
If you worked for something.
Then stand up and fight for it. OWN it.
Don't let other people or circumstances hinder what you have worked for and what you believe in.
I can't teach you how to be passionate or how to fight for what you want, but I will tell you this:
Life will not hand you want you want and success doesn't go to the nicest or most honest people. As we all know, life ain't easy. When you learn to stand for something, you begin controlling how awesome your life can be rather than being a victim to every circumstance.
Stand for something or Fall for anything.
