Here's a question I got in the e mail box regarding Convict Conditioning. Check it below: Hey Coach, I'm a 31 yr old FF. I recently bought Convict Conditioning and was blown away. I've always done bodyweight exercises to stay in shape. Lots of pullups and pushups and Squats. Used weight vests, TRX, perfect pushups, etc. I started following Coach Wade's methods and was quickly humbled. My pull up form sucks, my range of motion on my pushups is horrible. Both max numbers for each … [Read more...]
Underground Strength Coaches Rock Austin, TX
Just a lil' taste of what went down last weekend in Austin, TX, perhaps one of my favorite places I've ever been to, and not just because the town is so kick ass, but because the friendships I've built there are more like brotherhood and family. BIG thanks to my homie, Jeremy Thiel, for making this happen. One year ago JT brought 12 of his Coaches to NJ for a specialty USC Cert, where the entire 2 days were dedicated towards their needs and likings. His crew was in such kick ass shape that we … [Read more...]
Powerlifting vs Strongman
I just got home after a kick ass weekend in Austin, TX. Austin is a cool as hell town, reminds me of a blend between my hometown and San Diego. The people are cool as hell, the cabbies are slower AND more laid back than Spicoli from 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' and the girls are straight up Ass Kickers - I've never had such fit and powerful girls come through my cert like the girls of Austin (this is the 2nd time as they've been to NJ & now Austin). I cranked my USC Cert to a sold … [Read more...]
2 Critical Program Design Tips, Identifying “Dangerous” Exercises & Knowing Your Enemy
Remember that OLD school tune with Rage Against the Machine, "Know the Enemy"? Yep, Yep... well, with training, it's the same difference. After training for 22 years I am still learning more and more about my body, sometimes, ya gotta learn the HARD way. The other day I saw a video of Louie Simmons hitting rack pulls, I was inspired, and decided I too, need to do rack pulls. Problem is, I've been injured on this exercise before, even with light weights well below my max on rack pulls. Like … [Read more...]
Pussification of The World – Words from a Wrestler
MANY people loved my article on The Pussification of America. MANY also complained about it. Here is 101 seconds of TRUTH from one of the baddest BJJ fighters in the world, Dustin Denes, his origins come from wrestling. If you are sensitive or under 18 this video is NOT for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xvzoftq59s Seek & Destroy..... Go Hard or Go Home.... The training program that needs to be administered to eliminate The Pussification of America is … [Read more...]
CrossFit Endurance – Breaking ALL the Rules
Back in the day, in fact, even today, when people train for long distance running or running of any sort, their training involves running, more running and of course, some more running. I even get countless horror stories from my track & field throwing & sprinting athletes telling me how they run 2 miles as a "warm up". To become the best you need to learn from the best. That's exactly what's about to go down on June 4th & 5th at The Underground Strength Gym. Training for … [Read more...]
Becoming a BEAST with Bodyweight Workouts
Believe it or not, the gyms "back in the day" looked much like what everyone is trying to use as a fad today, calling everything "old school" is TRUE, but, old school strength back in the day was NOT being used as a fad. It was a way of life for these lifters and athletes. They lived and breathed mastering their body, gaining strength, packing on muscle and manipulating their nutrition to improve their health & performance. Rope Climbs, Gymnastics training, hand walking AND the use of … [Read more...]

How to Squat: DEEP Squats and Dinosaurs – Are BOTH Extinct?
Walk into a typical high school weight room and you'll see a 1 rep max test on the squat every month. Typically, you'll see kids hitting 315 to 495 on the squat. Kids that weigh 185 lbs are doing this, some weight 135 lbs and squat 315. Amazing. On the bar is a THICK Pad to cushion the back. The thick pad replaces the need to build up the traps. After all, who needs a set of BIG, thick traps to support the neck and reduce chances of neck injuries while playing football? Perhaps you'll … [Read more...]
Bodyweight Workout Post Sandbag Challenge
WOW! That John Welbourn Underground Sandbag Challenge busted me up as well as everyone else! Sometimes, you need a good ol' gut check training session! Some athletes were laying down for 5 - 10 minutes after going ALL out for 30 reps. More videos to come, but first, here is what is to be hit AFTER The Sandbag Challenge. Bodyweight training tells NO lies. It shows you if you're too heavy, too fat, too weak, in shape or out of shape. If you're training athletes, you need to place a … [Read more...]
